Hey guys, I feel we don't have enough list threads these days, so let's have a poll!

Which blog thread do you guys prefer, the one with an obvious name, or the blog thread that only fields relationship drama?

I like the one that usually posts funny pictures/videos, but sometimes turns into a debate.  I like it because it's usually funny pictures/videos.

Also, didn't we just do that with the various threads around or about Sam Hat?

Edit: Oops. There have probably been parody threads about Sam, too, though.

Why would we have a list thread in this case instead of an actual poll?

personally, i'm a fan of the classic relationship advice thread. some amusing moments were had there.  and of course, the blog thread has been there for me during that difficult time without a relationship thread, and i'll always be grateful for that. i don't know how i feel about this new relationship thread 2.0 start-up though.

It's still got that "new relationship thread" feel.  Soon enough, somebody will give the "stick it in her pooper" advice and it'll be just like the last one.

Seriously guys, starting the last relationship thread is probably the single biggest regret I have related to this forum. What a shit idea it was, guys.

I know you guys love your threads to bitch about trivial and meanial bullshit, but is it really necessary to have three threads we're doing it across? Is it so wrong to just have a single thread called "I have shit to cry about and then I'm probably going to split until I have something else to cry about," because let's not kid ourselves, maybe a dozen people really READ those threads as opposed to posting in it when something trivial goes wrong in their lives and maybe scanning the three posts above it and about a page past where they posted, and even that's not genuine concern so much as seeking the validation that comes with someone responding to your post.

I know nothing's going to change and this is a pointless exercise, but fuck it, you guys get a useless thread that at least 60% of the forum doesn't give a shit about to bitch in, it's my turn.

Or hey, maybe someone could create a bitchy blog threads subforum so I can just minimize it and wash my hands of it rather than have to sift through them to find a thread worth reading.

Do you also go to people's blogs and leave comments saying, "This blog is about unimportant things"?  I mean, these threads there so you don't have to read the occasional post in other threads.  The relationship advice thread was needed because not everybody wants to read about relationship problems or advice relating to those problems when reading about other cool/lame things happening to them, or when reading about people getting pissed off at "strangers."  The only possible problem I could imagine you having with these threads is that it costs you an extra second or two when scanning past threads you think are interesting.  Would you really be doing anything special with those extra few seconds?

Let's say generously it takes me half a second to scan my eye over the three concurrent blog threads we have going and say that I check the subforum maybe eight times in a given evening.

A year of that means I've just wasted 1460 seconds of my year, which equates to about 24 minutes, which equals two full episodes of the Venture Brothers I could've watched this year instead of having to even run my eye past the threads. I seriously feel like doing the ballparked math of how much time out of my life the blog thread wastes on an annual basis was a better use of my time than actually reading the blog thread is at this point. Am I seriously the only one at least slightly bothered by the fact that our longest thread is primarily self indulgent bitching?

The biggest part of your reply I'm concerned with is the idea that this forum needs a relationship advice thread. This place got by plenty long enough without even a blog thread, much less three separate threads that exist for the sole purpose of micromanaged blogging. You know what the forum did before the blog thread? They didn't blog. If you gave a shit about the crap going on in someone's life, you talked to them outside the forums or added them on facebook what have you.

Shit, threads used to get locked after a certain point to avoid stagnation like the circle jerk the blog thread has turned into. But then one day people just threw an absolute shit fit when a couple threads got locked because shit was getting boring. So hey, this is me. Throwing a shit fit because the forum got boring and everyone seems to have forgotten how to make threads that have actual conversation in them rather than one reply moving onto the next on to the next with no discernible interaction other than "Oh dude, that sucks" and "Yay for you" before the subject is changed entirely.

dude seriously its a forum on the internet who gives a shit?

This might sound wacky, but a good few of us value the overall community here for various good reasons.

While we are at it, can we get rid of the sports thread, because I don't like sports at all, and that shit is dumb. Who needs that crap. And maybe the fashion thread too, because fashion is kinda dumb too, and man I just waste so much time ignoring things I don't want to read. Speaking of things I don't want to read, lets get rid of all the other subforums, and threads that are dumb. I mean really the only thread worth keeping around is the pointless thread, and gosh people just aren't posting in there enough and when they do it is just not up to par with how the forums used to be. I mean, I value the quality of the pointless thread and lately I just don't know. We should probably just delete that too. Who needs any of these threads they are all lame and bad and low quality.

Jon, if you wanna catch a better mouse, you make a better mousetrap.

Make a thread that is so much better than that crap that we can't help but ignore them in it's favor. I don't see you revolutionizing thread posting, i just see you bitching...except in a much more IN YOUR FACE and, frankly, obnoxious way than the easy-to-ignore Blog Thread. Seems pretty obviously hypocritical, to me.

Consequently, I actually agree with you for the most part. I just don't think this thread is helping necessarily.

I actually cannot fathom complaining this much about the internet. I sympathise but honestly, I just read what I want to read and ignore the rest. It's really simple if you actually think about it.

It might reflect poorly on the quality of this subforum but ultimately, who even cares? It's not the Magna Carta or Bonfire of the Vanities. It's just a silly off-topic forum which allows a bunch of people in different countries to stay in touch. It serves this purpose pretty good right now.

I'm pretty sure we have already had this thread before. Or at least very similar ones. WAH I AM UNHAPPY WITH THE WAY THE FORUMS ARE SO INSTEAD OF CREATING AN ACTUAL GOOD THREAD I AM GOING TO WHINE ABOUT HOW MANY CRAPPY ONES THERE ARE.

Alternatively, who stalks Chuck's profile to find the picture? I do.

Exactly.  I don't care about most of the things said in the music forum, but you don't see me saying "Man, why does everyone talk about music that I don't like instead of music that I do like?"  Instead, I started a thread about music that I like, which has done much better than I thought it would.  The reason these blog-like threads are here is that there is a demand for them.  Sure, there would be less blogging if it weren't encouraged, but I doubt it would disappear entirely.  I know when I was on here the first time, it would crop up from time to time in random threads that were marginally related to the blog-like post's topic.  Hell, there's a reason for the "get a blog" pic.  So, yes there's more blogging in the blog threads than there would otherwise be if they were discouraged, but there's less blogging in the other threads.

Me too! I have two favorite compliments on this forum (okay three, the first was the first time Emilio proposed due to my story using only song titles--don't worry May, he was e-engaged to vegkitkat at the time so I said no) and one of them was Chuck saying a nice thing about me.
