Hey hey hey, drinking, racism and everything Henry Lawson ever wrote about.
But on the plus side we do have a number of decent comedians.

Something terrible has happened!

All the days on which tickets remain to see Stewart Lee have shows at a time that clashes with my show! I cannot see Stewart Lee at the Fringe! Jens, I have let you down terribly :(

It's at the Fringe, you could get away with that. Just call it "postmodern" or some shit.

EDIT: wait are you on stage or behind the scenes? If it's the latter then fuck 'em, let 'em fend for themselves for a night. They're grown up now, it's time they learned!

Gosh darnit, my free jazz show just got rudely interrupted by the rain. (yay it is the edinburgh jazz festival which can only mean it's the fringe in two days I am so excited, nevermind that I'm working 7 days a week, but guys I might have an interview with 65daysofstatic who are performing the soundtrack to a play live!)

I can go and see Stewart Lee after all! He is doing a one-night-only show later on in the day and there will be special guests and fun things! I booked quickly to avoid out-selling but a friend is coming too :)

What I didn't realise until I got to the rehearsal for this evening's concert was that I was not augmenting an existing choir - me and four others were  the choir - Vivaldi Gloria and the other things, one voice per part, with orchestra - also one player per part (but no orchestra for the Monteverdi, just chamber organ).

The venue (a college chapel) was full to overflowing, with audience even sitting up on the chancel steps, and back in the ante-chapel.  The performance went splendidly, and was one of the most exhilarating things I've ever done; and I get to do it again on Tuesday week.

Today at Walmart, a little girl kept pointing at me and loudly asking her mother "Mommy, why does that girl over there sound like a boy?" to which the mother responded, "Quiet, she can hear you. How would you like it if I said rude things to you?"

I have been hiccuping all day, since I got out of the shower this morning.  It's driving me crazy.  At one point in the afternoon each hiccup was accentuated with a burp for some weird reason--I hadn't drunk any soda all day.  I've tried holding my breath, regulating my breathing, eating a spoonful of sugar, drinking water from the other side of a glass, and every other method that I know doesn't work.

also,  GRAAAAAAAAAAAAH
I was in a class for my major (kinetics for chemical engineering) that fit my schedule perfectly and allowed me to take a class I want for a minor (data structures for computer science) honors, when in the last week of school I was informed that the section of my major class wasn't going to work out and would be merged with the other section, which clashed with my minor course.  I couldn't fit in any other section of the comp sci class, and by the time I found a course i wanted to take and would still advance me academically, open registration closed for the summer.  I hovered very anxiously watching the availability of my class on this course site, and it says there is 1 seat open for honors, 1 for non honors.  Open registration opened 18 minutes ago, and the one course site still says theres 1 open in honors, 1 in non, but the registration site says no open seats in that section, and open seats in another section which the other site says there are none available for, and I can't sign up for it!!!!  I'm going crazy here.

i guess i should sign up for the open class and watch for the other class to open?  it's just the open one is a horrible time, with a dif't teacher.  graaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

I feel that since it was their errors that fucked up my schedule, they should have had to deal with all this shit, not me.  I was plucked from my perfect classes and thrown into this hectic disarray.  They should at least put me into my second choice.  but nooooooo, I have to deal with this crazy crap.

Also, I can't stop hiccuping!

It's only really a strict rule with respect to the number of honors seats.  See, the honors and non honors courses for these upper level courses are taught in one class and the honors students merely get more or different work, and sometimes have one extra hour or so in a separate class.  (I absolutely hate this way of teaching, as an honors student I really want more focused teaching, but there's nothing I can do about that)  And, there are very specific guidelines for credits and types of classes for the honor degrees, and they limit honor seats so the kids who are lackadaisy about signing up for honors classes get screwed.
I may be able to get a non honors seat past the size of the class, but I'm unsure of how to go about that, actually.  I don't think it's talking with the teacher, but with a person in the registration place (which I have been doing since I've been booted from my classes (altho, admittedly I've been talking to a chemical engineering register person when the classes I'm concerned about are math and comp sci...))
The biggest problem with all of this is how computer regulated everything is.  The number of seats in the class is set to 16 and that's that.  A person probably can change that, but there is a reason it's set like that, there may be trouble with physical size of rooms and number of physical seats.

whatever.  I signed up for the 7-8:15pm mon, wed class with a teacher i've never heard of.  It absolutely sucks, especially considering my m/w/f schedule, and it leaves my t/r schedules annoyingly sparse.  I'll hover and watch for openings in those courses, but I may just have to deal.

shortly after i moved back to markham a woman on my street said to my mother, "i saw your son or daughter walking your dog yesterday." being mistaken for a dude is something i am fairly used to at this point but there was something almost endearing about the way she decided to say "son or daughter" instead of just guessing a gender because she was obviously just trying to cover all options possible in the hopes that nobody would be offended.

I've never been mistaken for a boy but people often have huge difficulty figuring out how old I am - my favourite time was when I was in the pub with two boys I'd recently met, and one thought I was about 15 and the other 25 (I was 17).

I'm prop hunting for the September show and it's quite fun! I'm concerned about some of the things though, they could get far too expensive/time consuming, but mostly it's going well :) The producer is a bit awkward to work with but not impossible and everyone else so farhas been great. Exciting! Still too much to do for the other show though.

Ugh, things are getting hostile at home right now.  Faye's dad's family threw out all of my food claiming they thought it was expired when i bought it last week.  They're taking stupid stuff from my room like shampoo and cotton swabs, going through my stuff, and her grandmother just bought her dad a car!  wtf people.  seriously?  so i think we'll be moving out this weekend if possible and her dad can see her again after we go to court.  i've lost 10lbs and clumps of hair because of this stress, and really, i have so many other things i should be focusing on instead of her dick family trying to steal her away from me.

Guys I didn't know if I wanted to share this with you on the blog thread or not...

But since I don't know of anyone from my real life that I want to share this with here goes.

It was hot a couple of days ago and I was walking to work.  There was a car parked next to my apartment and on that car there was a cat.  You know those people who say inane things to animals because they are lame?  Yeah I am one of those people.  So I said "It's too hot for kitties" to the cat.  (because it looked overheated and apparently I am a moron or something).

The cat then looked at me AND BLEW A RASPBERRY AT ME.

I documented this event.

What does this mean?

Blog Thread:

Yesterday was a year since I proposed to my wife. That is rad.

We recently moved out of a house owned by a lame landlord who refuses to spend money. That is rad.

We moved into a 3 bedroom house with two awesome dudes that is owned by a third awesome dude who is our friend. That is rad.

The house has been under renovation by said friend for about a month and looks fantastic and is really comfortable. That is rad.

The renovations are not yet done though. That is not rad.

Another friend who is helping renovate therefore has to live in the house until it is done. That is not rad.

The landlord friend can't move to MA like he was planning and is going to have to stay in the house. That is not rad.

Our incredibly annoying roommate from our last house has to stay at the house until the summer semester ends. That is not rad.

There are now 7 people living in a 3 bedroom house. That is breaking my mind.

We will get internet back later today. That is rad.

Things of this weekend:
Sappyfest is the best fest. Sackville is super cool.
Saw a bunch of great stuff, including surprise Sloan show.
Went to a zine fair, sold $25 of stuff. Fee for the table was $10, I spent maybe $5 on making cookies, I'm selling zines at 100% markup ($1 in printing for $2 in price). Not a great profit but hey it was fun and I got a bunch of cool zines in swaps. That is the real haul, right there. Also, if you have cookies that is like bonus for trades. I had my old baking zine and a new short one about drying food in your oven. I will write my bike repair zine soon and reconnoiter new opportunities to zine out.
B.A. Johnson is nuts.
Oh, there was roller derby and wrestling at Sappyfest! Like, they just said "OK, it's midnight, the mainstage tent has to shut down, so everybody go over to the arena for roller derby, wrestling, and Holy Fuck. Silly silly silly awesome.
Oh oh! And I met someone at Sappy who I met in Halifax visiting Andy that one time some months ago. Go figure that my artist friend in Halifax is friends with some punks in Halifax who are friends with some socialists in Fredericton. Didn't make the connection until after the lady left, but that is OK because I fairly doubt she would have remembered me anyways, but that tickled me so.

I don't know how many of you are futurama fans, but wife and I love it. In fact, we spent every night of our honeymoon watching several episodes. Whenever she calls my phone the song "I'm walking on sunshine" comes up because Fry is always singing it, and we walked into our reception to that song.

Anyway, about once a month she gets pretty emotional and hormonal and small things like hallmark commercials or pet rescue commercials make her weep big ol' alligator tears, and its really cute and endearing.

Now, to bring those 2 stories together. This is the most recent thing to make her bawl. It made me :) and her , but more importantly it gave me an excuse to share a video of baby bender.

Sappyfest is really good fest. You kids had your prfbbq business though, that was pretty good.
The socialists from fredericton were an Andrew and a Tania, Andrew being an old friend of mine. I would put odds against you having stayed in their house.

Today I fucked up one of the electricity experiments we do in one of the shows at work. Resulting in up to 10.000 volts shooting through my left index finger. There's now an entry wound between my knuckle and first joint, and an exit wound between my first and second joint. Before I managed to turn the thingy that gave me the jolt of, flames stood out of the side of it. Lesson: turn off before disassembling equipment that demonstrates lightning.

At first I was like "ten-point-zero-zero-zero volts, that is not so bad but it is unusually precise for an accident".

Get yourself checked out by a doctor ASAP.  I remember the safety briefing we had when I had my Physics degree.  Basically, if you've had high voltage go through you, it may do a lot of damage internally that you don't feel and are not aware of.

Fuck. Just....fuck.

Edit: One of the things that made me happy today though was that a friend who is doing interviews for the place I will be interviewing Thursday had this lovely dialogue. (She works for the computer labs, etc.)

Q: "So, what type of platform do you use?"
A: "Microsoft Word."
Q: "...No, what type of operating system are you running?"
A: "..." *crickets chirp*

This makes me very confident about my interview, considering I know I run Snow Leopard, know how to use Windows XP, and plan installing Windows 7 on my laptop at some point, too. So yeah. I wasn't that worried about it to begin with, but now I'm really not worried.

I really hate the fact that my almost 22 year old brother can still make me cry at the age of 23 by screaming at me about how he wants me to shut up and I'm a fucking idiot and I should just never talk again because nothing I say is worth listening to and he's watching the fucking TV, and I should not bother him, or else. And that he's bound to get his way in what we were discussing (prior to the screaming) just because he acts that way and there's nothing we can do, not because he's right, when he calls my parents tomorrow to tell them that I'm "being a nazi communist and will make him starve" just because I won't pay him one third of the "food and emergencies"-money up front when he eats stuff at home that others have purchased as well and we were told to eat together and not waste money.

I also really hate that this has been the worst summer I can remember with just 6 days with a maximum temperature of more than 20 degrees (and not a single one over 23,6 – the average temperature was supposedly 8 something in June and 13 something in July), and I'm just really sick and tired of everything and having a pretty damn shitty night. And having no one to talk to about it, so sorry for whining to you guys.

Edit: Not the brother I am going to be living with in the fall, obviously. I cannot even remember the last time we fought.

So I'm sitting here listening to the master of the CD my daughter's band is putting out before I go drop it off for pressing tomorrow.    Not exactly my kind of music--hell, I'm not even sure what to describe it as beyond angsty teenage girl indie-something-- but I have to admit I'm really proud of her right now.   Then I think about how much it's cost me and I shudder a little, but I'm still enjoying it.  :D

For D.C. and Richmond area forumites, there will be free CD release party/gig on the 21st.  I'll be posting some info on that later.

They do... and it has no music up on it.   I'll have to go ask her what the hell.

They have a facebook, and that has a song that the other girl's mother shot at a benefit gig they did.  My daughter, the bass player-- has performed quite a bit, but I think this was the first time the other girl had done a public gig so not only is the mix horrible, but they're MUCH improved now.   They also now have a drummer which changes the sound quite a bit.   Anyway, their facebook is here, the video is there if you want to get a feel for them.

The child I used to live with, Nikki, came into Walmart today with her father. I scritched the top of her head, and her father - knowing exactly who I was, and that I used to live with her/babysit her, threatened to kill me for it.

I came home early 'cause I was so upset afterwards.

Man, why are people dicks

What a bizarre fucking weekend.  I never thought I'd have to write a thank-you note to a total stranger beginning, "Thank you so much for your help Monday night pulling the snake out of our oven."
