You guys, it's 4AM and the people on the floor above mine has been partying since several hours before midnight, with super loud music and screaming and stomping/jumping on the floor (my roof), and they are not stopping. They stopped about half an hour ago, and I thought "Yees, finally, sleep!", but now they've started again, and it's driving me slightly nuts. I had planned on sleeping before 1AM and getting relatively early up to do an assignment that is due on Monday, but now I'll be exhausted unless I sleep until like noon.

It's supposed to be quiet at midnight, damnit. Yes, I know I live in a student housing complex/student village, but there are rules and everyone does not want to listen to other people partying and being obnoxiously loud. It's not like this place isn't relatively sound-proofed either, I can rarely hear things the kitchen/living room area next door, even when people are having get-togethers, so they could, you know, play music at a reasonable volume for 4AM.

I am pretty much the least "listen to me!"-ish person you will find, especially if there is, like, a whole party going on. It'd just end up being me going "Uhm, sorry, but could you please turn down the music, people are trying to sleep.", but they're drunk and loud and the kind of drunk people who do nothing but yell or jump around for several hours do not sound like people I want to try to convince to be considerate of other people who are trying to sleep.

Also, I am in bed and warm and in my PJs :/

Definitely considering reporting the whole floor to the administrators, though, as this isn't the first time it's happened. FIrst time they've kept it going for this long, though.

Where can I get an application from?
Just write "yes, please" on any surface and deliver it to me in any manner you please.

For my birthday my sister and I ate $60 worth of Thai food and drank Leinenkugel's and watched South Park. I am going to throw up but I am happy.

Guys my old friend Lukas is in town for the weekend (he lives up by some mountains or some shits) and we hella jammed out on some gee-tars and demonstrated some original songs. That dude has stopped playing as much guitar (although he is still very good) and has actually been playing hellof bass, and now he's got bass chops to end worlds. We had a great time, been a long time since we jammed together and it was a great sort of "Hey long time no see" chillout.

Sierra and I watched a movie last night and as a result we were up all night. She had to get ready for a friend's wedding this morning. Oooooops

Went to a crazy-ass party at like 8. I never realized those massive "in the movies" type parties actually happen in some places. But that is exactly what it was. Also I saw people I haven't seen since like 2004 over there, and after having smoked my first bowl in a month, I was pretty fuckin' out of it. The entire world was nothing but a gigantic blur, partially from the weed, but primarily from the fact that I was meeting all of the people I used to spend every day with, and I haven't seen them in over half a decade.

Also I met like 15 new people there and I don't remember any of their names except for this one dude named Tyler, but they were all really really nice, it was pretty sick.

It's supposed to be quiet at midnight, damnit.

I know exactly what you mean, and definitely report them. I'm getting a bit sick of the people upstairs from me being noisy at 2am most nights, but a huge party at 4am is worse. And this way, you don't have to personally go and confront them but it can be an anonymous, official request that they be quieter which will probably be more effective.

Because of something broadly similar happening in my building last night, I slept in this morning and woke up ten minutes before I was meant to leave. I was only 15 minutes off schedule when I did get out of the room which isn't bad. I had to run by a friend's college to drop off some flowers for her birthday on the way to church and I was only a tiny bit late to the service. Then I was late to ballet because I decided to stay for student lunch - that wasn't part of the initial plan but it was Mexican themed and everyone was wearing sombreros and eating tortillas and it was delicious. Then ballet rehearsal went well and now I have to do some work before ice hockey and I'm pretty excited about that!

My friend who goes to church, ballet and ice hockey is ill though :( She isn't in the ballet show which is lucky as she would be missing loads of rehearsals, but she's missed two ice trainings and a game because she just isn't getting better. I saw her this morning and she looks exhausted. She is doing too much and I want to help her but I can't really do any of her stuff for her.

I gave my boyfriend a little banoffie pie from work for Valentine's Day! He was going to buy me flowers, but by the time he finished hanging out with his friends he was pretty sure all the flower shops would have been closed! It is no big deal, though, because I worked for 12 hours yesterday so I didn't really see him that much and was really tired by the time I got home anyway.

I had a super cutesy day! Romantic ice skating followed by dinner at one of the nicer indian restaurants downtown, where we ended up getting the best table in the entire place for some reason! And oh my god, the food was so good. Then incredibly delicious home made chocolate mousse as a dessert back home, and now I'm so full I can hardly move. I didn't really plan on doing anything special for valentines since it's not really a thing here, so today was an amazing surprise!

Happy Valentines Day, folks!

Blog thread,

Mardi Gras wasn't as insane as I expected. I only saw four boobies. They were on very large ladies  :-( :-( :-(. I met a ton of people that I went to high school with, strangely. I invited them to my place as a nicety and we ended having great conversations and a good time! It was totally rad!

Now the girlfriend and I are making delicious stuffed shells (ricotta, mozzarella, italian sausage, and spinach). We are listening to a noise rock last.fm station as we do so. Yes!

Emaline, I am sorry I didn't get back to you in time, but I wouldn't have been able to let you park at my place. All the streets were closed. I had to park nearly six blocks away.

WOOOOO weekend!

But see, if the people there know you at all, this works to your advantage. When I was in dorms I basically never made any noise at all, so I felt absolutely no guilt in going next door or downstairs to say, "I don't care how low your amp is set to, you are playing a goddamn bass, and no matter what you do the noise will always come through the wall." or "I can hear every word you are saying, through my radiator. Might wanna quiet down."

I spent Valentine's day shoveling the walk at the house that's not ours til next week, and then going home to drink vodka Slurpees with the boy.

Man, I hate looking at places to rent. I keep looking at ads on the real estate website and falling in love with the houses only to realise that they are too expensive/ too far away from work/ too small/ fully furnished (what the hell, beautiful warehouse conversion on Australia St?)/ on a major road. At least there are actually places to look at now, compared to last week when the uni students were out in force and there were maybe 30 places advertised around here.

There is a beautiful apartment that is down next to Sydney Park which we are gonna go check out, though. It has maybe the biggest courtyard I have seen so far, it is gorgeous!

My mom took me to the casino for me birthday, i lost money.  Fuck casinos.

Later i can go out with my sister and her friend and likely get really drunk, or i can go with a couple friends to get a beer and not get really drunk.

I'm thinking number two, potentially a guinness and a newcastle

Biffed pretty hard off of my longboard. I was doing 35, couldn't stop, crossed a 4-lane street with a posted limit of 40, and ran into the wall on the other side of the street, almost getting nailed by a truck from the electrical company my dad works for. Clonked my head pretty bad on the wall, and I've got road rash on my right knee and elbow. Nothing is broken though and I seem to be alright.

lols I think I has a concussion. This is gonna be better than any substance abuse.

For Valentine's day it was bucketing rain! I slept in with the boy and and he gave me a mix CD. He made me a really meaningful mix when we started seeing each other and it was all angsty and stressful because of ex-boyfriend issues and I was telling him last week that I still listened to it. I am glad that this time it looks like it is a mix full of mooshy loved-up songs. I have not listened to it yet because I want to pay attention!
Then we went out for brunch. Later we took the dog for a walk. When we came back we watched Say Anything because we both love John Cusack and we finally found a DVD place that stocked it! It was a pretty excellent day.

Patrick, were you wearing a helmet? I am not going to preach but if you actually sustained a head injury you should not sleep through tonight. Like, you need someone to wake you every two hours or so to make sure you are still alive and your brain hasn't bled you to death in your sleep. I had a concussion and now I wear a helmet because people who do not wear helmets have either had too few or too many concussions, I say. Because I am an old man with advice like that, you see.
But! Head injuries, serious business.

The fact that a head hit a wall implies the necessity of a helmet. I do not want to say 'you should of been wearing a helmet' but I did want to point out that after my head-hit the doctor gave me that no-sleeping advice to be on the safe side, and I do not want Patrick to die. I reply here again because I find your no-helmet sentiment disheartening.

Ditto on the keep a close eye on things for a day or two, this is what happened to Natasha Richardson.

If you sustain a head injury, ALWAYS go to the hospital to get it checked out.

Well, I also remember an incredibly horrifyng prison assault story the guy running the first aid course told us, but let's not get into that.

By 'everything', they mean the heatsink and the I/O shield. I don't think I've seen a single one where the stickers were taken off. It won't make any practical difference, it's just easier.

Head Injuries:

If you have a concussion it can take up to 5 minutes to 6 hours for symptoms to appear. If you can, check that your pupils are the same size and are responding to light (cover one with your hand for a minute, in front of a mirror, and watch it shrink!).  You'll either feel sick, dizzy, have blurred vision or become very drowsy, or all of the above. As you know yourself better than anyone else, if you feel any of these come on, get your puny longboarding arse to A&E and get your head checked out. 95% of the time concussions lead to nothing, rarely it can lead to things such as cerebral compression, which is a major downer.

Wearing a helmet:

The number of times I've been at dirt jumps or a skatepark and some young teenager has smacked his head in because he wasn't wearing a helmet is crazy, but it doesn't seem like the most common thing anymore. Usually now you see kids biting through their lips/tongue when they fall off, which means I've seen more and more people wearing gum shields when they ride.

General blog:

I was up at 5am to start work at 6 wheeeeeeee

So You've Decided To Put Your Graphics Card In the Oven; And Other Stupid Ideas You Got From The Internet

A few years ago HP made a batch of printer network cards that commonly failed in the field; it was so extensive that if you knew where to call, they would replace them out of warranty just based on the serial number; they did for me.  When I had a second failure and was searching for number to call, I found (1) that they had finally stopped doing the replacements, and (2) a claim that heating one of the chips on the board with a heat gun for a minute would fix it.

It did; and I fixed half a dozen others for colleagues after that.

Not quite all urban myths are wrong!

That is crazy and strange, but totally awesome. Also, Spluff, if I were doing the same thing, I would also forget to remove the stickers.

Guys, I have blisters all over my feet from wearing bad shoes for two days and walking a lot. Everything hurts.

So, the symphony was amazing. Today was fantastic, and I would not believe it actually happened if I did not live through it, and even still I don't believe it so much. So, first, we went to the symphony, and it was great and fantastic, and I loved every second of it, and it was so nice to go back to going to that sort of thing(when I was a kid, I went a lot with my school because I went to a fancy art school). It was so nice hearing all those beautiful pieces. I think I was the only person there who had visible tattoos, though, and I got quite stares from the mostly much older crowd. A few people actually talked to me and that was pretty nice. I told some old lady about the band Cursive, because she was checking out my buttons and I think she was intrigued. And another lady and I discussed how crazy the weather was and how we were glad our SOs were going to get their cars to bring around for us.

The weather was quite crazy, though. I wore a shortish skirt, just a bit above my knee. When we went into the symphony, it was fine. It was cold out, but it the upper 30s, and softly snowing. Very nice weather indeed, and the only part of my body that was cold was my thumbs. Leaving the symphony, however, the weather dropped 15 degrees, and it was now quite windy and blustery, and snowing very hard. I was not about to brave the walk back to the car amid crazy weather and ice, and hard winds, and whatnot, so my wonderful bf decided he'd bring the car around for me.

The crazy weather almost ruined the rest of our day because we have a terrible car, and basically, we cannot get up hills when the weather gets bad,  or drive over little bits of snow that stack up from cars pushing it to the side. So basically, we are usually fucked. But we got out and back before it got too bad.

For dinner, we went to this really awesome vodka bar, that specializes in sushi and really nice burgers. I had a $19 hamburger. It was a kobe beef Hawaiian burger. It had Canadian bacon, Swiss cheese and grilled pineapple on it. With that burger, I have tasted heaven. It was amazing. With our drinks, two appetizers, two sandwiches(he got a "Sushi burger" which was a grilled tuna steak, with pickled ginger, and wasabi. It was also a little piece of heaven), and a slice of homemade carrot cake for dessert, our total came to $80. So...woo fancy dinner! I guess maybe. I feel bad spending so much on dinner but it was really nice and I'm really glad my boyfriend took me out. We ate like kings so it was worth it.

Overall, Valentines day rocked so hard! Also, my boyfriend bought me Incredible Machine, and we've been playing it together, and A)It is so much fun, B)We spend most of the game laughing our butts off, and C)Man, why do they not make games like this anymore.

In all, I super love my boyfriend and he is great and amazing, and Jesus, sigh, swoon, words cannot explain how great he is. I think he summed it up best when we were laying in bed together after dinner, "Shit, I forgot the engagement ring."

I managed to sleep a little bit, because unfortunately I managed to miss seeing your advice. But, fortunately, I am not dead! Doesn't mean I'm not gonna be getting as much caffeine into my system as I can, though, 'cause now I'm scared stupid of dying in my sleep.

For the record, I was not wearing a helmet when I thunked my noggin on that wall. I sure as hell will be wearing a helmet from here on out. You can bet everything I own that I won't step on a fucking longboard ever again without at least a helmet.

I know exactly how lucky I am. The only real injuries I have are the fact that my entire right side aches from taking all the impact shock, and my right knee and elbow got rubbed pretty damn raw when they hit the ground. If I'd been hit by a car while crossing that 4-lane road, I could've died. If I hadn't absorbed 90% of the impact shock by ninja-rolling (which I did completely by accident!), I could've hit my head harder than I did and been knocked out, or worse. Counting my blessings here.

Update: right shoulder moves very, very slowly. It aches and feels very stiff. Owwwwwww.

I don't think I've ever felt so physically and emotionally drained. I've been incredibly socially isolated this past week and have been pretty much going insane. I actually had the worst panic attack I've ever had on Wednesday night (which is saying a lot for someone formally diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder) where I literally just had to turn off all the lights and lie in my bed in the fetal position to avoid throwing up and hyperventilation. I also just had an emergency root canal this afternoon. Honestly, I just want to stop being in pain without any pharmacological aid. Plus, the only person who can understand how shitty I've been feeling this whole week in its entirety is unreachable. I'd really love a hug and some talk time from my best friend right now but she's in India and that's that.

man, word UP Julia, I have severe panic attack disorder and i was totally okay for about a year and then all of a sudden now I have been freaking out almost every day and my sleep patterns keep getting fucked up and the other day i had two hours of sleep because of i was so freaked out i couldn't stop twitching, and when i woke up i had another attack really bad and i tried to get up and fell (like a half faint, the world fades to black and i float and i snap out of it mid-fall) and cracked my hand on my bed frame. luckily i am the Messiest Human Being so the rest of my body landed on soft dirty clothes. i finally made a drs appt, i'd gone off my drugs (effexor i love you) when i quit school, and the earliest i can get in is the 24th. oh my god i cannot wait i cannot wait! when i first got diagnosed with it, i found out almost every lady on my dad's side has it, and i was like why the fuck didn't ya'll tell me this sooner, wtf. mine still isn't as bad as my gramma's, she can't go anywhere with a lot of people or she faints, whereas i feel more comfortable in a crowd as i feel more invisible.

okkervil river helps me. maybe it will help you? (no really, it is even better than the effexor, and i love effexor, specifically the velocity of saul at the time of his conversion)

Haha, aw! That was like actually the like nicest message, made me feel better! *HUGS* I've got Generalized Anxiety Disorder about 4-5 years ago, and I never went on drugs for it because I just didn't want to be medicated. In the past three year, I've been doing really well, like finding better ways of handling it, but the past two-three weeks were just a mess of bizarre circumstances that caused a total freak out. I'm still pretty off but it's my reading week right now (spring break, if you will), so I'm taking it easy. The only bad part is I can't drink since I'm on meds for my root canal for the next couple days. I'm basically gonna get so drunk when I finish them! Hope the effexor helps you, soon, too!

Gah gah gah why does my job interview for summer camp have to be on the same day as Varsity WHY? I have to be at the rink in Oxford by 3; the only way to get there is by bus; the bus journey is three and a half hours long. Unless my job interview is finished by 10.30 at the very, very latest I will not manage it.

ARGH ARGH ARGH.

this is the best day off ever, everything is closed so i have basically spent the entire day in bed reading and just going to sleep whenever i feel like it. i think i slept like 15 hours thus far today. going back to work tomorrow and resuming my seven days of work a week schedule is really going to stink but man do i feel relaxed right now.

God Bless "Family Day". I'm basically in the same frame of mind. I'm currently about to take a nap from this red meat buzz I've got going on. Mmmmm, extremely large burger...
