Blog Thread, what am I supposed to do with my life? I have no idea!
(And other stuff about Lit and writing.)

Jens, what it sounds like is that the role that might fit you best is Editor. You get to analyze the shit out of writings with an immediate concrete goal of improving it and/or publishing it (these are sometimes mutually exclusive), and you can make suggestions that satisfy the storytelling urge, but without the need to commit to writing those ideas yourself. You can still write of course, but now it's in addition to your main job rather than as something you have to completely support yourself from.

Where was the interview? how long did it take? Did they mention that there were other people pending for interview or possibly when interviewing ends?

Hot Topic. Roughly 45 minutes. And they mentioned other interviews, but not an ending time.

I mean, I think it went really well over all. We sat around and talked about music and art a lot. So that was cool.

Yeah May I used to do that all the time, it is why I was prescribed them in the first place because Shark Week was pretty painful, but now I am actually using the tablets for their intended use I have to have my placebo every month just to MAKE SURE because I have read too many 'I didn't know I was pregnant' horror stories. Shark Week eases my mind.

Yeah, when I first started on the pill I would just skip them all the time, because I hate the whole deal of Shark Week and I feel pretty miserable during it because I am all gross and sharky. But I got a bit worried about skipping so much (even though I never got spotting or anything bad, other than some stomach aches which could have just been my eating habits) so I figured I would try and be a good girl and bleed regularly like what it is natural. There have been a few times where I have been happy to get Shark Week though, I will admit that. Pregnancy scares me so much.

(No offence to your girlfriend, Beopuppy! Congrats on that!)

Blog thread:

Every thing went wrong today.  At the risk of being melodramatic--and with absolutely no intention of being so-- it may be the worst day of my life.  About the only thing that could happen that isn't outside the realm of probability (such as a meteor hitting my house) to make my day worse would be that today could be the day my very old and ill Grandfather decides he's done with this world.    Otherwise...   Yeah, it's about as shitty as it gets.

Carry on.

Hey blag here's a real post instead of an insubstantial one like earlier.

The song I posted the other day was hella sloppy, so I decided to re-record the fucker. The mastering is still a little shoddy (there's some unwanted distortion in there) and it's way more trebly than I'd like (and I even EQed the fucker using SoundForge, wtf), but the playing and mixing is a shitload better than Sunday's effort.

Still haven't added vocals, I seriously spent all day doing this and I haven't even done my workout yet. Damn it and now it's all dark. I'm limited to pushups and situps and maybe a quick sprint around the neighborhood. Kinda bummed.

Tomorrow at 5pm I'm going to the Home Depot in Hayward so's I can go to the orientation thing they're doing there (they can't do orientation at the Livermore store because apparently things got retarded there before I got hired).

Haven't had practice with the gospel choir since Saturday and I'm kinda worried because we leave for Los Angeles on Sunday morning. Fuuuuuuuuuck. I've got the click track to practice with, but man, that is such a shitty way to learn your cues... I really gotta get at least two more rehearsals in before I'm ready to do this.

Also I have been experiencing almost complete isolation for the last 2 and a half days and it is starting to get to me. 2 and a half days is the longest I've gone without human contact in a long time, and it is making me crazy and I am kinda abusing my Twitter account right now

Babies are pretty awesome.

I really need to clean out the mouse cage, but during the morning the cleaners are around and during the afternoon today they are running room inspections. I'm going to have to try and take advantage of the lunchbreak window because she is starting to smell.

Dovey, I'm confused.  You smoked a lot of weed, so now you're worried about being addicted to cigarettes?

Yeah, it was spin.

The weed was really strong and I wasn't looking to get fucked up and I have a pretty low tolerance cos I don't smoke often so it was nearly 50/50.

Anyway I am not addicted to cigarettes guys so don't worry I'm just an old frail man who can't handle standing in the sun all day w/ light to moderate headbanging. guh

Dear housekeeping,
You are sweetly endearing, and I am very glad I did not have to lie to you when you asked "do you have any hair tongs?" (I do not) and "do you have a hamster?" (it is not a hamster...).

I found that pretty funny actually.

One of our favorite restaurants, a block from my apartment, blew up last night.  Literally blew up, I mean.  There was a fire, a CO2 tank exploded and blew out a wall, and the roof is all caved in.  When we ate there just a couple days ago, I was thinking, "Isn't it nice to have such a cool place so close?  Tasty, and healthy, and affordable..."

And too good to be true.

I hate it so much it makes me want to cry, and it is made ten times worse because I just don't understand the way my supervisor's mind works so no matter what I do I am always WRONG I HATE THIS SUBJECT.

That happened to a place I used to go to as well Elizzybeth. It was really weird because I was on the bus to work one morning and there were all these cops around and I looked and my favourite cafe was all blasted brick and ash and caved in ceiling and broken glass.
Sad, they did good milkshakes.

Oh, and I got a promotion at work. I guess this is a good thing because it means more money but at the same time it means that I have to put effort into my job which is difficult because my job is pretty meaningless. On the other hand it's really easy. To quote Pictures For Sad Children "it's like riding a bicycle that you hate."

My blag comes with source material.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/local-breaking-news/crime-and-public-safety/college-park-is-noisy-but-peac.html

Oh yes.  I was there tonight.  Where were you?

In all seriousness, shit got fucking crazy tonight.  I was down in college park to watch the Maryland-Duke game at a friend's place, and maryland won to tie for the ACC lead, so of course the place went nuts.  We ran down to route 1 and things were peaceful until the mob arrived from Comcast Center.  Dude climbed a traffic lightpole, streets were blocked, your usual fare.  Then horseback police and cops in riot gear showed to disperse the crowd.  We were eventually shoved from the streets and onto campus, where some dipshits lit a dumpster on fire and other dipshits tied a Duke jersey to a tree and set that on fire.  Riot police were given the OK to come onto campus, and started forcing us even further back.  I ended up on the mall with some friends of mine, where dipshits set the trashcans on fire.  Cops showed up there too, so we backed off until the heat died down and we could head back to their house.

While this was going on, I believe at least a dozen people were arrested.  No charges have been announced.  I also saw at least ten people beaten or shoved by riot police without necessity, at least five people pepper sprayed, and I'm pretty certain I saw tear gas grenades fired into crowds.  A fair amount of that was deserved, but most of the beatings/shovings and pepper sprays were not provoked.  Like the girl shouted at to leave the sidewalk who attempted to jump over a brick wall about two feet high but slipped, and so while trying again was shoved over with a riot shield for "not acting fast enough." Or the black dude who never opened his mouth, and was standing beside the road in a chain with other people not saying a word as the police walked past, who was beaten to the ground, and the people around him who, after merely saying "what the fuck? he didn't do anything!" were all pepper sprayed.

Shit got real.

I finally started learning Unity since the tool has gone free and I had some time last weekend. I built a quick web demo because I wanted to play with simple flocking behavior, developing in this tool is ridiculously fast:

(Unless you've already got the plugin, you'll need to download the Unity browser plugin.)

Hello, Internet. It's been a while.

So the state of New Hampshire ("Live Free or Die" my ass) has recently charged me with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute. I mean, really, NH? You're going to be redundant like that? Really?

Maryland-Duke game
Route 1
Riot police
Shit got real

Glad we didn't go to Route 1 last night. I love how my school commemorates victory and defeat in the same way - by destroying our own town. We went to the Muse concert in Bmore - Muse was awesome and amazing, Silversun Pickups is not really my deal but they seriously got screwed in the technical department, they looked awful - and got back to CP about 20 minutes after the game ended, so there were still cops at the Comcast exit all trying to direct traffic and generally getting in the way of everyone.

Also, it is really fucking hard to buy a house when you don't have a job. But if we can pull it all together, then we go to closing tomorrow afternoon. Otherwise it gets rescheduled (again) or maybe the banks foreclose and we lose it and have to start all over again. *head asplode*

I am going to put this in small text because it is a long complaint about my day.

The registers were down today from 11 to the time I left, which was about 5, but we did not close until 5. Which means starting at 11, we had to tell people the registers were down, but we could still hand total things and use our old school credit swiper thing to get their card numbers or they could pay in cash with exact change. (We couldn't open the drawer with the money, so we had no change.) It is a pain in the ass to hunt down prices for items, calculate discounts for those with savings cards, calculate tax, get a total with nothing but a piece of paper and a calculator AND try to keep track of what you're selling. Especially if you're getting a lot of things. Most people who came in only needed a thing or two, but two people came in and after we told them about our situation, they said they'd go ahead and shop. First I see them grabbing open stock pastel pencils. I'm like, ok, that's cool, they're all the same price, I'll just have to write down which colors they're getting. (There's about 20 different colors.) So I take those and then they head over to the open stock markers. They seriously pulled out about 40 different colors and gave them to me and then handed me 20 or so colored pencils. By now I'm pissed at them for not going somewhere else if they needed that much stuff. So as I'm writing down all the different colors for ALL of these markers, they start looking around some more and right when I'm almost done totaling all of these things together, they plop more stuff on the counter and ask how it's going. How the fuck do you think it's going. I'm trying not to mess up my inventory, stop bring me shit. So $200 worth of markers and pencils later, they are out of my store. There are 3 locations in this city and another art store like 6 (smallish) city blocks away. Why the FUCK would you buy that much shit when you KNOW it'll be a pain in the ass for people that work here instead of walking or driving a short distance away.

We finally stopped letting people buy stuff around 4 because we were tired of people coming in and saying they needed one thing and then buying way more than one thing, but we weren't allowed to leave. So we sat around doing nothing until 5 when someone finally realized that what was wrong was not going to be fixed and they let us go. I have to open tomorrow. I doubt our computers will be fixed. I am not going to be happy tomorrow if we have to do the same thing again instead of doing what should be done and closing the store.

Basically I hate my job today and I may hate it tomorrow. And I have a headache now, so I think I'm going to chill with my cats, have some food, and watch some Firefly.

That happened to me when I worked at Cost Plus World Market, except it was only 2 out of our 3 registers, so we had 1 cashier working hella hard while the rest of us bagged and the manager pulled her hair out.

Anyway my point is I feel your pain. And Firefly is always a good thing.

So, thread, this is my life now:

I am probably getting rid of my dog. Though maybe not. But probably. We go back and forth on this a lot.

I made butter tonight, and bread yesterday, and I don't know what it'd be like not having this stuff fresh anymore. The idea is weird to me, and it is also frustrating when recipes say "1 stick of butter." But that is because I have terrible memory and am too lazy to remember how much a stick is. Why can't they just say have a cup? rar rar rar rant rant rant complainy pants

My mom bought me a Thai cook book and says she wants me to make her stuff from it, but I find that hard to believe. I once made keema curry and brought her some, and she wouldn't touch it. But who knows! Maybe she will. I am probably going over there Sunday to hang out with her and my aunt since my aunt's birthday was Tuesday and we did nothing for it.

But Tuesday night, I went with my boyfriend's family to celebrate his father's birthday, which was Monday. We ate at this super fancy steak place, and the bill was something like $212 for the four of us. Which is weird to me. Its one of their traditions. Then we went back to his dad's house and I played with his sister's baby. Then my boyfriend and I came home, and snuggled in bed, and he played chess, and for some reason that was just really great and perfect.

After grocery shopping today, I realized I have 7 different cheeses in my refrigerator, and  about 5 different nuts, plus two granolas.

Also, today I learned that my little brother may have to get leg surgery. Remember a long time ago I posted this blog? Well, thats the kid. He walks on the tips of his toes all the time, and when he went to his doctor's appointment about it they got all pissed off at my mom, saying they were calling CPS because they waited so long to see the doctor about it. When I was a kid, I did the exact same thing, and it self corrected, plus I've got awesome calf muscles now because of it, so my mom didn't think it was a huge ordeal. They made him get an MRI, which for a 9 year old kid must have been horrible. I know adults hate it, but I can imagine it being so much worse for a kid. He had to lie perfectly still for an hour. Poor kid. And now they are thinking he might need surgery to correct it, and basically this poor kid has been though so much already. I feel so bad for him. And now they are wanting to put him in a Cerebral Palsy study, which has my mom freaking out. Basically, this all sucks. And I'm worried about him. And this is balls.

(Also, in the week that I had borrowed his game, he had already got a new copy. New he has my copy of Fallout 3 and I am wishing so bad that I could play it)

Dear blag,

Went to a party, got to hang out with some rad folks. I'm gonna start practicing some stuff with a buddy of mine who lives at the house the party was at, and we're gonna see about playing some gigs one weekend down at the infamous Coffee Shop.

Also man it got cold out again

Also also whoa holy shit people all flippin' bitches over sports and then cops beating dudes down just 'cause they are a different color, what the fuck, I hoped that kind of stuff was 40 years behind us in this country (or 10 in L.A.).

Tonight I had the worst and longest panic attack of my life. My whole body except my hands and my feet felt like they were burning. I've never felt burning that intense and that widespread from an attack before. I've got my drugs now though; I took the first effexor today so in about a month or so hopefully it'll be less frequent. The drug they gave me for the onset of the attack fucking rules though, it puts me in slow motion. I was still feeling the effects of the slow-mo pill at work at the call center just once. I think it actually helped my calls that I was speaking way slower and way lower than normal.

Yesterday was a completely terrible workday. A new hire showed up to fill out paperwork prior to starting the job. He was supposed to be working in a machine shop around horrible, dangerous machinery. He showed up half an hour late because (and I quote) "I got halfway here and had to turn around because I realized that I was still wearing my house slippers." He didn't change out of his baggy sweatpants, though. So my boss told him there was no way he could do the job and that we would find someone else.

It escalated. My boss ended up threatening to kick his ass. This was at 8:30 in the morning.
