I will spend this week learning a year of maths, through attending a repetition course for people who already have that year of maths. I hope I can pull this off, because starting sometime next week, I will need to know this one year worth of maths to be able to understand what's going on. UNI HERE I COME MOTHERFUCKER

Man. Friends. Most of the time I think the concept of friends is bullshit(this has a lot to do with the fact that I don't ever really feel like I can actually connect with people. I can't feel what they are feeling, I rarely feel like anyone understands what I am feeling and how that affects me, and generally I feel apathetic towards people and in situations where I should not feel this way.), but man.

First of all, for much of the summer, a friend of mine who I had recently reconnected with has been in California. She came back a few weeks ago, and we've been hanging out a lot. She is leaving tomorow night. We are hanging out later today, and last night we hung out. Me and her, and her boyfriend and mine. And we just sat around, snacking, watching Beowulf(w/ rifftrax), and then talking about video games(Braid, Limbo, and Starcraft mostly), and then we played some Rock Band. I mean, yeah, it was a pretty average night. And it was also one of the most wonderful nights ever. I love Jon and Sara, and I'm super going to miss them. They are moving to California to go help Sara's family. Last night was so great. I just felt completely comfortable, and everything was wonderful. Jon and Sara are really good people, and I am super glad to know them.

Then there is also our friend, Davis. I love him to death, and he is my best friend. We've been trying to go visit him in Chicago, but it's been difficult getting everyone's schedules to line up. But I still super love and miss him. And man. Friends. Not such a horrible concept once you find the proper people.

Also, today is an Amanda Palmer day, and I am going to spend most of it listening to her and singing to my cats.

Dear 1994 Toyota Camry with Cracked Radiator,

FUCK YOU

Best,
Chris

I actually replaced the radiator in my old Explorer not too long ago (it was pouring in antifreeze gas and poisoning me) by myself for cheap with instructions off the internet.  I don't know how mechanically minded you are, but it is a good alternative to draining your bank account.  I believe our vehicles are the same year.

So, i came to work a bit earlier than usual, and guess what.

3 minutes into the coffee, one of our boats pulls up, and the crew start waving rather enthausiastically. Why? THIS IS WHY?! It was soooo cuuute! (yes, i know its in dutch, but just look at it!)

Its expression at 0:30 is just so magnificent ... Oude Maas? Weird place for a seal ...

Yeah, we spent lunch speculating weither or not the seal is a master navigator that got up all the way from the Westerschelde, or that he more or less got interested in a boat heading for Rotterdam, and just kind of flopped about in the currents.

We went for the latter option.

We're one step closer to sorting out this car shit, thank craps.

I mentioned in my previous missive that to secure insurance in Ontario you need an Ontario driver's license and in our case this means getting a detailed driver's history from the West Australian DPI (our equivalent of the DMV). That has been the source of most of our grief since the previous post, as three calls to the DPI, one to the West Australian Police, and a couple to the Ontario Ministry of Transport have yielded some wildly varying answers as to where and how we actually procure this thing. Our solution to this has just been to do EVERYTHING, and thus remove any chance of being told we did it wrong when next we front up to a MoT office in Toronto. This morning I woke up to the news that these documents are now winging their way across the planet to us, hopefully reaching us by Thursday. This means that there is a good chance that we will not be thrown any further off-schedule and we can continue our itinerary as we had originally planned.

Also we've done a bit more walking around and managed to uncover some little pockets of cool in Toronto, so I don't hate it quite so much. I still wouldn't recommend it though, what with a whole other planet being out there and all.

Toronto was fun to visit, but I don't think I'd want to live there simply because it is too big. But then again, a lot of the internet was there, so that was part of it. Glad to know you're going to be able to get other places easier now!

Blaggy,

Finally decided what I want for a tattoo. I've been wanting one since I was 15 but never knew exactly what I wanted, and then realized today I want skunk pawprints, three of them, like tracks going up my arm.

I mentioned it to a friend, who I found out already has a skunk pawprint tattoo, and I asked to see it, and she showed me this:

and that's perfectly what I want. Whoo!

So I just got back from the bar where I work sound for; just finishing up a shift running an open mic night. Everything was going well up to the last act, which was just a guy on acoustic guitar. Should be easy right? Meh. He plays way too softly to be heard, leading me to boost the mics on his guitar, which just turns to feedbackorama. The mics also could have been placed a lot more carefully, and in the end he thanked everyone for their time and walked off without so much as playing a note.

Obviously I feel shitty, but I see him outside, where we discuss how we could have fixed things up, and I promise to get it right next time. I mean, all things considered the rest of open mic night went well, I promised the guy we'd do it right next time, the sound woes were most likely more his fault than mine and the bar didn't blow up and I got home safely.

So why the fuck do I still feel shitty? I feel like all my life I've been conditioned to self-flagellate indefinitely whenever anything goes wrong. Chalk it up to maybe how I was treated by my dad when I was younger whenever he'd rage at me whenever some cock-up happened that was my fault (bad grades, trouble at school, etc), but fuck it, I'm 22 now and have no goddamn excuse to keep feeling like this whenever something goes wrong. Yet I do. The last person who will ever let me off the hook for something like this is myself. What fuck?

Man to be honest that sounds like a gigantic dick move on his part - if you're playing at an open mic night, you don't get to be such a fucking prima donna that you essentially storm off stage thanks to a bit of feedback. Running sound is hard enough at the best of times, but open mics are the worst because you're dealing with so many different people playing different instruments at different volumes that you're bound to run into some trouble. I guess the best you can do in that situation is do everything you can to quickly fix it, but what he should do is just suck it up and weather on through.

it sucks to feel like someone tanked and you were somehow possibly culpable. no real way around it. if you know you weren't at fault that'll help a bit but not much you can do about the parts it doesn't help.

Guys I am about to go and interview 65daysofstatic what?

They are doing the soundtrack live for this choreography dance thing about imprisonment. I haven't seen the show yet (my tickets are for tomorrow) but it sounds pretty cool.

Like, definitely one of the artists that got me into post-rock or whatever it's called now and I have been listening to pretty consistently for the past four years (Fall of Math anyway).

FRINGE!

Well my car is overheating. Went into town today to run some errands and as I was driving home I notice the temperature gauge is maxed out. Shit's in the fucking red and it only looks like it's getting higher. Fuck you, broken radiator.

Now part of me is seriously considering having to bike to my work now. This fucking blows. Google Maps says it's a 20min bike ride but most likely I bike slower than that. Nevertheless, considering the alternative of fucking dying in my hot-ass car I'll consider it.

Nothing wrong with buying expensive chocolate.

Guys, my neck is killing me! I pulled a muscle at work putting on a sweater, and ever since then, it has been killing me. I couldn't really look up while I was at work, and as soon as I got home, I took a hot bath, and not I can't even look to either side! It hurts so bad I feel like I might vomit. I'm seriously almost in tears. My boyfriend made me a rice sock, so I'm using that now, and its helping a little.

I just want to lay down, but tonight's dinner is kinda complex, and I don't want to leave my boyfriend to fix it himself, and we don't have anything else thawed and I don't want to waste money on going out. wah wah wah abloo bloo bloo I don't know what to dooooo!

Pulling neck muscles sucks. Try to turn your head as little as possible and use a heating pad (which I guess a rice sock is similar?). Also maybe try some ice now and then, too. When you think it's ok enough if someone touches it, have your bf do very light neck massages. Other than that I'm not sure if there is much else you can do. :(

Hot water on its own won't help too much, in fact it will probably hinder your recovery on its own. Try having a contrast shower, alternating between hot and cold showers every thirty seconds, beginning and ending with cold. It helps the blood to circulate and really relieves a lot of muscle pain. You want to cycle it about 3-4 times - it works wonders.

Yes, a rice sock is like a heating pad. Basically, take an old sock, fill  it up with uncooked rice, pop it in the microwave for a minute or two, and you have the best heating pad ever. Add various dried herbs(mint, lavender work really well) for extra effect. I've heard of people adding dried flowers as well.

I'll try the alternating shower after dinner. Which we've worked out ok. I breaded the pork chops and gave him a quick lesson on how to fry things properly. So we should be alright. Now, to go lay down.

Hey guys, you know that really awesome school that I got accepted into? Well, I can't afford it. I can't get financial aid because my mom not only dragged her feet for a month and a half on even starting her end of the FAFSA shit, but when she finally did, it turned out she'd made a mistake in her filing this year. If she'd done it when she promised me she would, it'd have already been sorted and I could've started this semester.

Well, it was a nice dream while it lasted. Still can't find work, getting pretty damn desperate.

Pat, can you defer your enrollment until you get all the proper paperwork in?  I know there are a lot of scholarships you can just google search and apply for that could kick in next semester or year.

Tonight it turns out one of the people in my summer class lives with a group of my friends so we studied for my final tomorrow and hung out a bit.  Then I gave my gay friend his first mohawk.  I especially liked the observation that, of the four men in the room I was the only one who never slept with a man, so I was least qualified to cut hair.  My other gay friend completely rearranged and feng shuied our apartment.

We're throwing an end of summer party on Saturday.  I'm looking forward to the fall quite a bit.

Do you specify which ones are straight when you tell stories about them too?

Since the story is about them teasing him for being straight, that's the only way this story makes sense.

I don't know why I do the things I do sometimes. Being a really insensitive person while trying to deal with an overly sensitive person is really difficult. I might die from the asshole guilt soon. Shits. Why can't I just be nice to this one person? It's not that fucking hard.

In other news, I wish I had other news... school needs to start soon.

My friends' band is playing a gig at the hip bar here, and their bass player can't make it so they asked me if I could play with them that night. As amusing as that would be, I was planning on skipping town that night for New Brunswick and I am pretty out-of-practice. It is not that big of a deal to push my departure back but I am out of practice and am not sure if I can perform with them since I'll not have a lot of time to practice.
This is them, they are originally from Labrador like me. They are called the Silver Wolf Band, their manager was like "there have been a lot of wolf bands, maybe you should swap it up?" and they were like "really?" and the moral of the story is they've never heard of Wolf Parade which I found hilarious. The music isn't too complicated so basically I think I'd just be picking the root of the chord all night, so it'd be doable but not exciting.

p.s. man their music sounds real fucking dull next to wolf parade

I really don't see the problem with this! It's not actually unfair to mention that someone is gay because it's not really that unfair to assume a person is straight unless otherwise nominated. Most people seem to agree that 10% of people are gay, and just based on personal experience I would say even that is a stretch. Basically, it's a bit dumb to imagine that someone is a white male unless otherwise mentioned because half of the world is female and the majority of the world isn't white but when at most 1 in 10 people are gay is it that big a deal to point it out? Especially because there are a lot of gay people who consider being gay to be an integral and central part of their personality (why, you might even say they have Gay Pride oh my god).

I uh just realised that this is pretty condescending and I'm not sure if you personally identify as queer Emaline but that was a bit of a kneejerk reaction there.
