Activision Kills Guitar Hero

...So. Anyone know where I can get a GH axe and game for Wii, cheap?

Any store anywhere that sells second-hand games, I imagine?

I'm not surprised that no-one is buying new rhythm games, but how are the sales of DLC going?

Probably well enough, but you gotta remember that businesses aren't known for being satisfied with a steady customer base - it's all about growth. If the music DLC market is saturated then they'll abandon it.

Anyway, this was bound to happen ever since Activision handed off the series to Neversoft for cash milking. Harmonix only made three Rock Bands but Activision made what, a dozen Guitar Heros in the span of 2 or 3 years? It was their new Tony Hawk series.

Activision really fucking sucks - First they wrest the series away from its creators and then they salt the earth with shovelware. Harmonix just can't catch a break. MTV sold the studio not long ago.

Activision milked all the short-term profit out of the trend while they could, prematurely bringing the end of the market, and then scrapped it and laid off a bunch of hardworking people. In other words, exactly what they've been doing since Kotick took over, and are in the process of doing with Call of Duty. Remind me why people still consider EA the 'bad guys' of the industry?

Because EA's philosophy used to be what Activison's is right now.  EA now takes the stance of "we need to make our games good." and we've seen them introduce new IPs that are of a good quality.

What I think is hilarious about their press release about killing Guitar Hero and DJ Hero is that they've said that they're shifting their attention to CoD.  There are now....I believe over 4 development teams working on CoD.  The ashes of Infinity Ward, Treyarch, Sledgehammer, Raven (presumably) as well as another.  And you know what, I'm happy that Guitar Hero is dead.  I'll also be ecstatic in 3 years when people are sick of Call of Duty and that dies too.

I used to boycott Activision products because I really, really hate what they're doing to the industry.  It's been really easy because Activision hasn't released anything that I'm even mildly interested in.

Guitar Hero is dead, long live Guitar Hero.

But really good riddance. In the beginning it was something, but the end it was a shallow form of it's old self.

They do? I thought most everybody was hip to Activision being the new most evil dudes in town

Only good thing that came from Guitar Hero was their ridiculous "replacement service" where you give them the code from your faulty/broken instrument and they send you a new one. I got about 5 guitars and a drum kit out of that thing, free of charge.

It was bound to die sooner or later. DS version bombed, and after everyone has a guitar, then a wireless guitar, is there any point in getting new hardware?

Rock Band was the lesser of the two evils, I think that dedicated artist games were a good idea (although once you've done The Beatles there's noway any other game will sell as well)

I'm getting Dungeon Keeper 3 cancellation flashbacks.

Westwood was a rather unfortunate loss due to EA as well. There's a lot of reasons to have seriously hated EA!
