Did you just imply that drummers in pop music don't deserve very much credit?

Travis Barker is one of the best drummers in the field of drummers who like to play a lot of rolls while upside down.

Dude travis barker is probably in the top 5 drummers working in pop music, real talk.

Even though I don't have an opinion, I was convinced by your use of the term "real talk."

Don't worry, just remember, what these forumites eat don't make you shit.

Tommy: Maybe he meant "indie" pop?

The last few posts: Travis Barker is a good drummer like Joe Satriani is a good guitarist. Obviously very skilled and given to occasional bouts of extreme catchiness but needs to be seriously reined in most of the time.

I always thought Sugar and Dance, Dance to be catchy, annoyingly so but catchy nonetheless. I never heard they broke up but recently something forced me to start listening to those two songs again.

Try harder. It's a good analogy. Have you ever actually listened to some Joe Satriani musics? He's actually got a pretty great melodic sense. However both he and Barker do a lot of things not because they "should" but because they can.

Dude, why didn't anyone ever turn me on to this band? I mean I accept that if you'd tried to when they were big like 5 years ago I probably would have hit you, and I've made some pretty impassioned claims against them, but fuck, dude.

This is a good band! This is some awesome poppy ass rock music! I've only listened to cork tree so far, but I'm pretty psyched to scope out the rest of their stuff.

Sugar is a way better single than Dance, Dance though.

I don't get it.

i was saying you were trying to lure out the morons who actually like fall out boy so you could gas and burn them, but it turns out you aren't and actually like fall out boy for some fucked up ridiculous reason

but you guys all listen to kanye west now so i shouldn't be so surprised i guess

I was talking about where he said Kanye was a phenomenal rapper, but also bad at rapping

This might just be me being stupid about rap though

Actually I think Kanye can tie in to my Satriani/Barker analogy as well i.e; the dude has phenomenal flow and is insanely clever but (at least recently) he's disappeared so far up his own ass that nobody gives a sweet delicious fuck.

Kanye is a phenomenal producer and bad at rapping. Almost as bad as I am at typing!

808's and Heartbreak is probably my favorite Kanye record though, or I guess more accurately Heartless is just the best fuccin song, and I could take or leave the rest.

How was he "shittin' in some ears"? Love Lockdown alone was fucking amazing, unlike anything else I've heard at least in pop music.

I should also make a distinction between "like" and "love". Aside from Love Lockdown and a few others I wasn't massive crazy about it, I just thought it was a good solid album.

Haha sure it doesn't

I've been wrong about the Evens forever, it seems.

Who the fuck listens to Kanye now? The only people that's trendy for are people who are totally uninterested in rap besides being able to say things like "I don't like that shit about bitches and guns, you know?" Also Graduation has a bunch of killer tracks and I get the feeling a bunch of you don't know what you're talking about. Like

bad at rapping

Not even. Look up "ft. Kanye West" on YouTube and check out a bunch of spots where he absolutely lays it down. Yeezy can be clumsy at times but his best moments are pretty fucking good. How could you say that he's a bad rapper and have heard like half of Late Registration? Dovey's right except that Kanye has always been up his own ass and that's what makes records like Graduation and 808s stand out - they have a focus usually not found in rap records, while bearing the excellent singles the genre's known for.

Hey thanks for putting words in my mouth man!

Seeing as Kanye doesn't typically rap about bitches and guns I have no idea how that could be a problem in the first place but besides how is it an invalid opinion to suggest that the dude's first two records were pretty unique mostly because they were being made by a guy who seemingly had a bit of self-awareness and even though he dealt in a lot of Rap Game tropes he also had the sense to realise that maybe it was all a bit silly, something he's abandoned in more recent times?

Whatever, I guess a cracker like me could never get rap like you do.

My problem with Kanye is that I don't particularly like his voice or find it all that distinctive even if he's not actually stumbling over his words. Not hating on the guy, mind you, but overall I consider his production skills to be his true strength.

I would not say that kanye is a great rapper if talking about his techical skills. His flow can rather average but his great virtue is in knowing the limitations of his voice and producing accodingly. His whole attitude is rather unlikeable but 808s and Heartbreak was actually a pretty good record.

Kanye doesn't have the most amazing flow, it's more his references and humour which make him work. And his production.

If Family Guy was a sketch show I'd have zero problem with it (other than it not being funny most of the time). They could have a recurring Peter sketch, Stewie and Brian sketch, Quagmire sketch, etc. and it'd be fine. It's still funny sometimes it's just that they attempt to shoehorn this completely non-sequitur humour into a 22-minute sitcom, which is stupid.

They also have no idea what it means to parody something.
