Thank you.

Is there a land where things go the way you want them too?  And can you emigrate?

Kudos to Angus for bringing this rather awkward topic in a fairly decent manner, can't have been an easy thing to bring up, and so easy to avoid.

Angus has shaped up as pretty much of a mensch*. And I hope Marigold gets those facial moles looked at. I know skin-cancer probably isn't the big deal in Massachusetts that it is in Australia, but better safe than sorry, yes?

Anyone else notice the crisscross detailing between her boobs is gone? I like the dress w.out it but I wonder if that was intentional or not.

I don't think I'm spilling any secret female beans in informing you of this, but the style, shape, cut, etc. of your bra can affect the way your top drapes over it. ... Or Jeph forgot to put them in.

It's eerie how similar Marigold-Land is to Mad Catopia.

It's no secret; I am female myself and quite well endowed if truth be told, but with all of the different styles of bras I own and have owned, I've never had one that made crisscrossy or other such marks in a dress that disappeared when I chose to wear a different style bra under it. Besides, the crisscrosses were still there when her bra broke. I'm opting for Jeph just forgot (:

Is it really a good idea to talk about a one-sided crush when one party is in some state of undress?

Also, did anyone else feel a Sven-sense tingling in the last two panels? Or was that just my mint chapstick?

Marigold-land…so that's what it's called. I think I've spent a few months, maybe years, there, off and on. And I, too, salute Angus for venturing into the Morass of Awkward and making MG think about why she decided to make romantic advances on him. Probably doesn't help her now, but it's the only way she'll learn. Calling yourself an idiot is fun and all that (must be, spent a fair amount of time doing that, too; it's obviously entertaining to me), but it doesn't really get you anywhere or teach you much.

*Yes, I know I'm of Chinese descent, but I'll use Jewish expressions if I want to...
So long as you understand that makes you a Chinese Oyster. Ba Doom Boom! And Mazel tov (yes, I can be a horrid Yiddish-spewing bivalve myself despite my complete lack of Jewish genes—Southern-Fried Oyster, I suppose.)

And hey, if Mari's into one night stands, I know a guy named Fernando who could totally hook her up for only a 30% cut.

That's what I thought - Sven is looking to move away from his past behaviour, so who better to do that with than someone who has never actually been in a relationship and who can unleash Faye and Dora's evil power if he screws her over?

Actually, pretty much anyone but Marigold. She's the worst candidate for Sven-rehab I can imagine (of the cast as we know it), and you just managed to point out two of the many reasons for this. But Sven may be in Marigold-land now, or perhaps even somewhere worse, so who knows?

What Mari needs is someone to screw her brains out, just so she can get that "So......that's sex. OK, not bad, now let's see what actual people are out there" moment that everyone gets after their first time goes down.

Clearly, the girl needs contact. She's completely overdressed to go watch Youtube with friends, she needs someone to get her past this phase in her life.

I'm not sure that's actually possible without breaking Conservation of Narrativium, however she definitely needs to wear her hair down and behind her ears more. Her normal hide-behind-the-fringe thing doesn't do anything for her and the twin ponytails thing makes her look like she's trying to look twelve.

Mari IS quite adorable, and the poor thing needs contact. I... I'm in love.

she definitely needs to wear her hair down and behind her ears more. Her normal hide-behind-the-fringe thing doesn't do anything for her and the twin ponytails thing makes her look like she's trying to look twelve.

Let's not forget she's a construct by a guy, who's showing her symbolically, still 'hiding', still immature.  If/when she busts :) out of that shell, the makeover could be amazing.  (See PennyandAggie for an example; I'm too lazy to find it.)

And as much as I and others adore her, I'm not sure Sven would be attracted to her type...?  His 'dating' history has been consistently attractive, confident blondes, with Faye an attractive, confident personality.  I don't see Svendog even sniffing in her direction.  To me, it's an obvious, jarring, uncomfortable mismatch (as much as they both might enjoy/benefit.)  Plus, Dora & Faye would inflict major damage and derision upon him, for taking advantage.  Really, the power balance is almost totally one-sided, unfair.

Forgive me for the assumption, but I'd be willing to wager you're probably of the male persuasion. This reaction is not typical among the female persuasion. A young lady is far more likely to fall hopelessly, blindly in love with the first man she gives her flower to than to suddenly become nonchalant about sex once getting it out of the way. Sex causes a lot of intense emotions in a lady that she has never felt before!

Some men, too, with similar attendant problems if things aren't mutual. Recall Ferris's comment about Cameron's fate in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Quote
Cameron has never been in love - at least, nobody's ever been in love with him. If things don't change for him, he's gonna marry the first girl he lays, and she's gonna treat him like shit, because she will have given him what he has built up in his mind as the end-all, be-all of human existence. She won't respect him, 'cause you can't respect somebody who kisses your ass. It just doesn't work.
Admittedly, Ferris is a cynic.

Which, of course, means we're pretty much guaranteed Sven/Marigold. But this time, with Marigold as the pursuer and Sven as the reluctant pursuee.

Seriously. It wouldn't be so bad if it was just one ponytail, but whenever she's drawn with large pigtails this is all I see:

(And now you can't unsee it either)

That's a wager you'd win.

And Mari NEEDS to feel them. Even if she does start writing flowery poetry and planning a wedding after her first time, remember, she's got Dora and Faye, ready to kick all of the living (and 80-90% of the dead) shit out of her first time if that guy starts treating her like an unwanted dog. She needs to get screwed, then possibly screwed over, so she can move on.

Rabble rabble rabble, Angus is a dick and a jerk and Sven/Faye OTP.

Marigold is upping the whole "Desperate" thing. Doesn't reflect well on her.

Um. If you're a shy, sensitive, withdrawn girl like Marigold, and you sleep with someone who's your first time, and you fall hard for them (as it seems almost certain Marigold would do, given her reactions here), and then they immediately screw you over... you don't move on.  That is not what happens. Much more likely you turn into Faye 2.0, that is, you withdraw even more into yourself and decide to never get involved with anyone ever again.

Or else you become even more insecure, give up on yourself, and start sleeping with anyone and everyone who'll have you, to either make yourself feel wanted in any way you can, or to make that first time seem less important.

None of those options are particularly great or healthy.

Damnit, every interaction between these two has been making me cringe lately. I love them both when they're with other people, but together I'm not sure which I dislike more.

...did anyone else feel a Sven-sense tingling in the last two panels? Or was that just my mint chapstick?

Recall that this was first said by a girl about to have sex with him...has Sven been breaking the fourth wall?

(with his dick?)

Well he has definitely got the reach with his 8 and half inches.

Or at least you certainly shouldn't try. Marigold seems to be pulling out all the stops. That dress is short, at least in the last two panels. Dora's skirt for her "meet Dad" moment was even shorter, but that's Dora. Marigold doesn't seem the type.

Indeed. Marigold shows her desperation and lack of experience if she thinks getting used by someone is going to make her feel better about herself. And not just because she's female, and shy and sensitive, but because she's human (yes, I know exceptions exist. I'm talking in general).

I also noticed her dress is quite short, and it must be a really well chosen, flattering one too because she hardly looks bigger than the likes of Raven and Penelope in it. I know Jeph tends to variate the way he draws his girls weight-wise, it's just something I noticed.
