Deep down, she's a real sweetheart.

Maybe Angus admires her dedication, and presumably except for the messy room she's been a responsible apartmentmate.

But that leads right back into "she could use a good fuck/spelunking". There be dragons that way. Though she does have pocky, which might be the "delicious chocolate".

I'd add that she does seem to be very good with technical things. Maybe she and Hanners could open an AI repair shop, with Hanners providing the logic. "We will talk down that Deathbot 9000 in 10 minutes or your money back!"

Thank you for giving me back a little bit of my belief in mankind.
Thank you for taking away a little more of mine. :-(
Hu ? Why ?

She deserves sympathy just because she's human.
So was Hitler, though.
...and with that, this thread has officially been Godwin'd.
Only thing that happends officially is another proof somebody doesnt know what Godwins law is.

Check it out on Wikipedia, its described nicely there (well, at least last time I've checked).

Wikipedia. NOW.

I would've liked Marigold to woman up and ask him why she's SO great.  She hasn't done anything particularly awesome.  I could count on both hands why she's kind of a bother and on one hand why she's awesome.  I know she's a fairly recent character, but c'mon Angus.  Give us a little insight.  Maybe he's just laying it on thick to make her feel better.
Err lol.

She's so great because she's a freaking attractive young female gamer.

Red brilliants are much more valueable than other kinds of diamonds, despite looking like a rubin, because they are so freaking rare.

So are skilled and dedicated gamers who are (a) attractive (b) young and (c) female.

That doesnt mean I'm her fan, though. I'm still with the Hanners crowd.

First of all, attractive girl gamers aren't nearly as rare as you think.  ; )

Secondly, diamonds(i.e. rare things) are only 'valuable' because certain people put value on them.  Like you for instance.  You think attractive gamer girls are valuable. The rich guys that come into my coffee shop would rather have a tall, vapid blonde.  So, it's all in the eye of the beholder really.

The point I was trying to make is WHY is she such a great person to Angus?  His words fall flat if he can't back them up with more than..."Uh...you're a great looking gamer girl!", you know?
As I wrote in the posting you quoted, I'm not a Marigold fan, I'm a Hanners fan. And Hanners has nothing to do with the women I'm attracted to in reallife. First of all, because I never met anyone remotely like Hanners. Dunno how I would react to a reallife Hanners.

Err, I know many attractive young women who GAME but none of them do it in a degree like Marigold. Most women I met in MMOs had been 30+. I dont play WoW though, maybe its different there.

I'm pretty sure you wanted to write brilliants, not diamonds, there. For diamonds are very very useful, so much that one produces them artificially now.

Wouldn't it be funny if Angus' dad was a politician who utilized the... erm, services... of one Ms. Veronica Vance, which caused him to become an ex-politician?
Um, I dont think that still can happen in the 21. century.

Not in europe and the USA, at least.

Losing your girlfriend / wife, ok. But not losing your political career. Well ok, at least as long as you're right wing politician. Left wing politicians often have something left that's called a conscience, and that will be a problem in such cases.
(Cough) GARYHART (Cough) BILLCLINTON (Coughcoughcough) JOHNEDWARDS (COUGH)
Hmm.

I dont know Gary Hart nor John Edwards, but Bill Clinton was exactly the guy I was thinking off when writing that comment ? Only problems he got was because he didnt wanted to discuss his private life with the public so he lied about that in court. Personally I think that should be allowed, or even better this kind of question should be disallowed in court.

From the looks of Jeph's twitter and the Ustream feed, it seems that everyone in the QC Universe is going to turn up at Faye's party.

This could be the beginning of a wild story arc, or the set up for the apocalyptic disaster that finally ends QC.

I wonder if it will be a natural disaster that takes out Northampton, or the revolution will come and Faye and Dora will be the first against the wall, or maybe it's Zombies.

I'm hoping for Zombies!

TAG, Marigold did lend Hanners her anime and did invite her over for a movie, even if it took Momo's translator unit to figure out that it was an invitation.

True, but its still Hanners taking an interest / participating in Marigold things with Marigold, rather than Marigold making a real effort to do something with Hanners that Hanners likes.

That's a pretty selective way to remember it. From where I'm standing, Marigold was trying to be altruistic in lending her the entire series of her manga. I'm not much of a manga collector, but if anyone asked to borrow $200 or up in reading material of any stripe from my personal collection, I'm not sure I'd let them do it. Considering this happened not too long after Hanners freaked out on her, something she opted not to hold a grudge over, I'd say she's more than capable of being a nice person. She's just only now discovering that her hopes and desires involve other people on an emotional level, and this kind of revelation invariably leads to one acting selfish and not realizing it. You have to crawl before you walk, and you have to walk before you help old ladies cross the street.

Gary Hart was a Democratic Senator from Colorado (IIRC) who by all rights should have been their '88 nominee. Then the pictures of him with a bimbette on his lap on a rented yacht surfaced.

John Edwards - come ON man, you haven't been following the news at all? Edwards not only had a mistress on the side, but he got her preggers AND tried to convince her to have an abortion - even after he knew his wife had cancer!

Philandering idiots are on both sides of aisle, mi amigo.

As for today's comic: I got the double-entendre of Penelope's. Heh. "Chaucerian".

Just as well Marigold went back to change that bra, given the build-up she has apparently been given by Dora.

Also, has Jeph been listening to Brimful of Asha? (video here)

I think the extra work of drawing the large cast of today's strip, all for a big-boob joke, definitely counts as "doing it for the art".

All the fun of the big ones but in a more portable, and therefore more interesting, form.

There were way more people in the sledding comics, but the majority of them weren't main cast.

Are you supposed to pluralize 'bosom', Wil?

Since you didn't bother to state the definition, I will; Godwin's law is that "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1." (I never have seen an official quote before, so I guess something useful came of you.) And that is exactly what happened, the idea Marigold deserving sympathy due to being human led to her humanity being compared to Hitler's. By you.

I'm just going to glide past comments from you from now on, because nearly every time I read them the palm of my hand makes contact with my forehead. Of course, I swore off reading them a couple weeks ago too and look how that turned out.

One thing; those of you with mad archive skillz (yes, with a z) - is six the largest number of fully detailed figures Jeph's had in one panel since the new style took over?
If by fully detailed you mean faces 'n stuff, then here, from the beer sledding night. I remember that this took a really long time too. I count seven. The other possibility is the coffee shop after the newspaper article on it.

I think bosom is the plural.  Only... of what?  A Bos?  Are there two bos in a bosom?
It's a collective noun and should therefore take the singular even when there are multiple breasts contained within. The only way to have multiple bosoms is to be multiple people.

Also @LTK and westrim; whilst I remember the sledding comics, they aren't exactly what I was thinking of when I said the new style...

I have a feeling that Dora's words to Tai before Marigold arrived at the party were something like "OK, you're totally gonna wanna bury your face in Marigold's boobs, but don't do it!  She's shy and may freak out."  I know, I know, unnecessary conjecture is unnecessary.  >_>

It's really nice to see Wil, since he pops up so rarely these days, and I like that Jeph is doing a better job of distinguishing him from Angus.  I mean, Wil's already been shown as taller and with a different shaped nose, but with the addition of facial hair and the now different hair color, it helps a lot.  Angus could have been wearing glasses in that scene and I still would have had no trouble telling them apart.

Interesting that so many folks have been invited to this.  It'll be fun to see everyone interacting (assuming Jeph is willing to torture himself for several nights filling panels with five or more characters), but within the context of the strip, it seems like Faye went a little overboard with the "This totally isn't a date with Angus so behold as I bury myself in enough friends so as to guarantee that nothing too intimate or personal happens" thing.  No doubt epic wackiness will occur.

Wonder if they duct-taped Pintsize in a closet somewhere so that he won't "assist" Winslow . . .

Not bad for a spur of the moment gathering, but it has been my experience that intimacy may happen regardless of the number of people at the gathering and the possibility of getting away with it increases with the number of people ("I thought he was talking to wil over there, no wait, she was fending off Tai near the kitchen, or did one of them head off to the loo?").

So is it really just that simple? Mari wants attention, and people to be nice to her, she just needs to start wearing more low-cut stuff?

YES, I know it'll be the wrong kind of attention, but still, it's hard to be an introvert with everyone eyeing your rack.

Oh he's probably there, (and Cosette's there too) there just wasn't enough room in the frame for anybody who didn't have a line.

And I think the hupe party strategy is a good idea if Faye wants to make a move on Angus, there's a lot less pressure and awkwardness than if it were just the two of them, and it will be easier to slip out discreetly without anyone noticing if there are more people.

Now all they have to do is distract Marigold, but between Hannelore counting everything and Tai trying to cuddle her all night, that shouldn't be too difficult.

Honestly Marigold is her own worst enemy.

On the surface, she's pretty similar to me.  Young and attractive gamer.  Okay fine, she's heavier than me, but I have smaller boobs.  And yet, unlike Marigold, I can pick out damn near any non-mated gynephile that I want, and fuck them by before the day is done.  Marigold and I are more or less the single most desirable class of women.

So what is Marigold's excuse?  That she was bullied in high school?  I was too.  Worst thing that ever happened to me in school was some bullies who didn't like me got the idea to tell a teacher that I had threatened to bring a gun to school so I'd get expelled.  Nearly got me put in jail until one of them admitted they made it up when I was in court.  Yeah that is AT LEAST as bad as getting a frog dropped down your shirt.

But I got over it.  Marigold needs to get over it too.  You don't get anything you want in life unless you grow some metaphorical balls, and stop being so whiny.  I mean hell, it's not like half the cast of QC doesn't want to fuck her, but she's too busy stuck up in her own little world to notice.  She needs to quit being so lazy, quit the victim complex, and make things happen with all the power that comes from being an attractive female gamer.  She should stop being a manipulative passive-aggressive bitch towards Angus, and start being a plain old manipulative aggressive bitch towards anyone she wants to be.  Lord knows she could have damn near anything she wanted if she actually tried.

Holy reunion comic, Batman!

Ten Internet dollars says Tai and Mari wake up the next morning in a very compromising position.

All people are not cut from the same cloth. Something that one can "get over" easily, another can't--something one will shrug off, another won't, and also vice-versa. Because something was easy or manageable for you does not mean it will be for someone else--it may take them an entirely different amount of effort and mental/emotional strength, and this I think is one of the most important things we need to recognize before judging other people.

All that aside, I am extremely disappointed in Wil for using "bosoms" incorrectly! Of all people you think he'd know! He seems to read a fair amount of 19th c. lit, and that stuff is saturated in the (correct!) usage of "bosom." He may as well have said she has a great "set of chests."

Also, I gotta say, I am tired of people talking like because Marigold is "an attractive female gamer" she's some kind of rare unicorn, and has magic powers or something. First off, attractive female gamers aren't that rare anymore, and I wish we'd retire that idea along with "male gamers never get laid."  Second off, Marigold isn't somehow specially attractive. She's average to slightly-below-average.  That doesn't mean she isn't cute--you can totally be cute and average, since, well, most people are average-looking.  She's been getting cuter lately, so maybe she'll get to slightly-above-average, but she ain't there now. But I think singling her out as "hot girl gamer!" makes it seem like there's a different criteria for girl gamers, and honestly, most hot girl gamers I know are just plain-out hot, by anyone's consideration.
