Well, you could put on one leg and get an idea of fit, though it would be hard to be accurate about the bottom.
OK, so Cosette just needs to cut off one leg high enough up the thigh that she can slip it over the cast. Then try on the jeans, and, if they fit, either:
  • Paragon: Buy the cut jeans and sew the lower leg back on. What? It'd look really punk-rock.
  • Renegade: Hide the cut off leg, return the cut jeans to the rack, and buy another uncut pair of the same size. That'd be even more punk-rock, with a possible arrest bonus, but with Steve, Marten and Tai to distract the shop assistant the risk would be low.

I suppose you could analyze the timestamps on everyone's posts to see at what times each user's activity peaks, then you could ping each user's IP address to see what their geographical location is, finally cross-referencing that data with each user's time zone to tell who is regularly staying up til 4 am posting on the forums, but that would just be creepy.

Why ping[1] when you can just use whois? ;-)

Though, I agree that would be creepy.

Isn't it simpler just to take people's declared geographical locations (e.g. I'm in the UK).

[1] Ping only tells you packet loss and time to target.

It's Tai that points out the flaw in their plans, isn't it? Don't know why I thought it was Marten.

I did not intend to encourage creepiness; at least, no more than usual. It simply occurred to me that there was a flaw in the plans of all those stake-sharpeners, and, well, I suppose I understand Tai's need to pop Cosette's plans. I would've done it later, though.

I think I missed the joke in Tai's final line.

Are she and Cosette the same size, and therefore, Tai could act as a pants-proxy? ['pants-proxy' is a fun word.]
Would it be bad form for her to celebrate Cosette's cast removal?

And why do I think "getting the cast off tomorrow" means "Jeph is tired of drawing crutches?"

If Tai had been planning on trying on pants anyway, it might have seemed like taunting after Cosette's embarrassment. That's the way I took it, anyway.

Regarding today's strip, wow Tai.  I mean, she's got a ways to go before she can claim the title of Queen of the Overshare, but that's up there.   :-D  Or down . . . well, you get the idea.  Both Steve's expression and Cosette's expression in the last panel are awesome -- everytime I look at their faces, I giggle.
I think she got the crown when Tai dragged Martin to the bodmod shop to watch her get her hood pierced—and was stone-cold sober. I'm sure Marten would gladly enthrone her, at any rate.

Ah, see, I see the Overshare as being verbal and thus distinct from Exhibitionism, which is visual/physical.  Tai definitely wins for Exhibitionism.  And no, I don't know why I capitalized them.  >_>

Unless Cosette is gonna go for the Jackie Joyner-Kersee look, she's defintely gonna have to wait for the cast to come off before trying on pants.  Nothing stopping her from trying on new tops, to go with the pants she may get . . .

I see your point, and ditching her pants when she's in some else's apartment, much less all her clothing, surely makes Tai at least a closet exhibitionist (probably more, much more, but at least that). Having Marten accompany her to get her privates adorned works, to me, on both levels. Sure, she gets a chance to get Marten an eyeful, but Tai also gets to tell him she's doing it in the first place, when Marten might never have known otherwise and probably didn't want to, and now he will always know she has the piercing. I predict in the future Tai will write a memoir with an homage to Douglas Adams: Tai Fighter Tell-All: Everything You Never Wanted to Know about Me But Are about to Be Forced to Find out.

Oh, and perhaps you capitalize them because they are definite, distinct Qualities.

Wow...  :? It's a bit much when describing a top as "nice" is a bro-foul! Conceivably Steve needs to learn that there are ways to compliment a girl's choice in clothes other than blurting out "sexy" when she's wearing (by current standards) a nice modest top. Sometimes we do just want to look nice...

I'm seeing Marten staring directly at her breasts, and her slowly blushing.  It is my assumption that she realizes he's totally checking out her rack, and Steve does too.

Tops do generally go on the boobie-region, yes.  Which leads to the question of where exactly are you supposed to look when asked if a shirt looks good?  The neckline?  The stomach?  "Yes, I think that top does an excellent job of covering up your jelly rolls."

as i read it, she is blushing over marten's assessment, but not over steve's. this increased reaction could be seen to suggest that that his opinion carries more weight with her than steve's. this is possible reason for steve to be concerned, though nothing he can really blame marten for.

I assumed she registered Steve's "sexy" as "generic applause from boyfriend who is sexually turned on by me no matter what I wear", while Marten's "nice" translated to "genuine applause from second party not my boyfriend who might actually be onto something".

I actually heard someone mix "prosecuted" and "persecuted" by accident. It was an Icelander describing what her countrymen wanted to do to the banking elite. She's fully bilingual but doesn't have a lot of occasions to use the word "prosecute", so it got mixed up.

This is not to make fun of her. Based on my efforts to learn languages, I respect bilingual people to the point of being intimidated by them.

No. This is all a ploy by the advertising division of "titty-fuck" meant to make we men buy small bottles of Marten's feces and smear them under our armpits*.

I posit that the yawn Marten gives immediately after Cosette turns away doesn't make him appear too all-fired interested in her. Anyway, Steve deserves a teeny bit of rattling—fair turnabout after this bit of smugness.

*Confused? Lord knows I am, too. But I think the answer lies somewhere in here.

Martin staring at anyone's chest other than Dora's would result in him blurting it out to Dora later because he'd feel like he was cheating...  We've already seen evidence of this.

It looks like as a whole the comic is moving further towards more defined looks for each character and a more realistic twist for some in particular. Cosette and Hannelore in particular used to have huge eyes and I think they both have a more unique look now they've had it dialled back. Definitely a step in the right direction for the comic in my eyes, as it makes them look more like believable people.

woaw, Cossette still have marten feelings?

Cosette's feelings might be translated to: "Hey, the cute boy I asked out whose girlfriend nearly killed me likes how this shirt looks on me!"  Her attraction to Marten likely hasn't entirely gone away, even though she's happily ensconced in a relationship with Steve.  So, those are feelings of a kind, I guess.

Marten may have been looking in the general direction of her chest in panel 1, but he isn't laser-locked on her titties as the purveyors of Titty-Fuck(TM) would have us believe.  And Steve was focused on Cosette's reaction more than what Marten said.  Marten wasn't trying to flirt, but I suppose yelling at him is easier than trying to yell at Cosette for blushing at another man -- which would be silly and insecure.  Not that Steve is insecure, I mean, taking pictures of yourself shirtless with a bear isn't insecure at all . . .

I hope this doesnt strain their friendship. Then they will have to turn in their special friendship lockets! seriously this is 100% not marten's fault! :|

based on his relationship with ellen and morgue girl, I think Steve is very insecure.

I really didn't see this going the way it did.  I was expecting Tai to say something super inappropriate.

Maybe that'll happen next time.  Tai saying or doing something inappropriate -- like entering Cosette's dressing room topless, holding out a shirt and saying "My tits are too small for this, but you should fill it out fine!  Try it on." and then not leaving.  Final panel would have a crutch imprint on Tai's forehead.  ^_^

Shoplifters will be polar coordinate transformed.

I don't know what that means, but I don't think I want to stick around and find out.
Let's git while the gittin's good!

I was thrown by the Yawn, though. I thought that was what Steve was "DUDE!"-ing Marten about.
That's how I read it too. I only understood by reading the forum.

Now that I understand what the "problem" is, though, I'm completely puzzled: how is Marten's reaction a "foul"?

I don't know what that means,
It involves polar bears, atlases and henshin heroes, some of which might or might not be imaginary.

It isn't.  It's only Steve's insecurities that make it seem like a foul from his point of view.  After all, he's already proclaimed the top as sexy; But it's Marten's "Nice" that gets a positive reaction from his girl.

You can see it in Steve's face in the 2nd and 3rd panels - he's worried that Ellen's Meena's Cosette's attentions are shifting away from him!

Steve, I know that Cosette can exhibit worrying signs but that doesn't mean you have to compete with her? ;-)

I never really looked at Steve's relationships that way. He is the hard-luck kid, isn't he? Always falling in love, being dumped, missing obvious mating plumage (Penelope), giving Marten relationship advice—wait a minute.

Maybe Steve to drop his pride and ask Marten nicely to piss on him.

Being a pro-gun girl, I'd prefer, "Shoplifters will be perforated." and under that, "Survivors will be perforated again."

And now...

TITTIE-FUCK!

That is all.
