Are there any good music blogs you guys like to browse?

Lately I've been hooked on Blog to the Old Skool (http://www.blogtotheoldskool.com/), which posts out-of-print hardcore techno on a nearly daily basis, and Beat Electric (http://beatelectric.blogspot.com/), which has all sorts of sweet electro-funk, house, and techno singles. You guys have any recs?

Aesop also has THE best write-ups compared to any other blog.

Those are, imo, the two best music blogs on the internet.

Old acquaintance and my blogspiration Ian Zamboni is over at sonofzamboni.blogspot.com. He covers just about everything but his real passion seems to be obscure psych/surf/garage/nuggets rock from the 60's and early 70's. It got shut down a few months ago in what seemed like an organized sweep of sharing blogs (Bigfatsatanist and a few other venerable blogs also got pinched), but he bounced back. Check the archives. On his old blogspot site there was a blogroll sidebar with dozens upon dozens of obscure and exciting blogs, but sadly it seems lost to time. Heavy emphasis on original vinyl rips (that excellent Blood Visions rip from a few months back was his). On front page you've got The Rip Chords, Coil and Kris Kristofferson. Excellent, excellent blog.

Speaking of blogs, it's been a good 5 days since I've updated mine. Better get on that, I guess.

Cosmic Hearse is really cool. I don't always kop what guy posts but it makes me really happy that someone writes about the music that he does, the way he does.

I get music from all over but honestly the blog I download from most frequently is Gotta Dance Dirty. There's always at least 5 or 6 tracks I like on each page of posts. It's all party music, though, some more laidback and some straight solid bangers.

This is a very cool site and also heavily intrudes on my listening time at times, although the quality can be a bit fucky sometimes.

It might just be me but I have a problem with people taking donations for sharing music on the internet through blogs. I mean, I purchase and upload music and download music that other people have posted but it seems to me to be taking it a little bit far when you're essentially being paid for distributing other people's music without any permission.

The uploads on that blog are great quality though.

The uploads on that blog are great quality though.

I'm guessing the idea is to cover the cost of bandwidth, properly ripping, etc. Sites like that don't get enough donations to make anything resembling a profit - it's more like making it a little easier to keep up the site.

A few

7inchcrust literally just posts crust punk 7" singles, a perfect conceit.

Red and Anarchist Black Metal posts RABM, vegan BM, blackened crust punk and a lot of classic crust and scandinavian hardcore.

Noise From the Death Factory hasn't updated in about 3 years but a lot of the links still work. One stop shop for power electronics and death industrial.

Did we never get to you? Did I ever write back? I do get inundated but it's only really because I've been added to so many promo email lists, it's hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. Some days I get so exasperated I just archive emails I get if they're not addressed to me personally in the first sentence. Send your email again, I'll have a look-see.

Speaking of music blogs, I've been seriously considering going legit (ie mediaf!re-free) with my blog... I buy 99% of the stuff I review anyway, and it seems like it's keeping me at a distance from artists and labels. When I started out, it was really just a means of accurately gauging how many people were reading (when a link wasn't cross-posted somewhere else, that is). Thoughts?

I've been having the same thought process rocketing around my brain, especially as my own musicianship has begun to gain steam. I keep putting off my decision, but going "legit," especially if you want to be amicable to labels/artists, is really the best thing.

on the other hand, you could keep the link up for a certain amount of time, then take it down.
