So.....it's a coffee shop....and the sun is apparently up......and they still don't open for two more hours? Maybe's Dora's business sense isn't as good as I thought it was....
Who knows? We don't even know what day of the week it is in the strip. But if Faye needs two hours to *ahem* get moving in the morning, I'd suggest more fruit and vegies in her diet. Or hot prune juice.

Following up on Jeph's poop joke with a laxative joke; I am such a classy lady...

I find it amusing that while Hanners is waiting outside CoD, the blank, smiling expression on her face is the same as the cute kitty on her bag.

Also, I fail to understand Dora's logic. If neither she nor Cosette are wearing their natural hair color, why does it matter whether Cosette is dyed blond?  Sure, Dora could go back to her natural hair color, but it'd take months to grow it out. She'd have to "artificially induce" her natural hair color by bleaching and re-dyeing it.

And given Dora's personality, I don't see her going back to blond anytime soon... black, white, blue, cherry red, or orange, but not regular blond. Just call it a hunch.

I just want to say this: when I saw the first panel of today's (Thursday) comic, I suddenly had the theme from the Mary Tyler Moore show go through my head...

Poor Faye. It's one thing to endure the Great Casualness from a SO, another to suffer it with no side benefits (or at least none you want). I'm sure Dora has no problem 'popping in' for a moment, then deciding it's conversation time.

[snip]
Tailgating is a big problem in just about any communal secure environment, and it is so tempting to do it, especially when carrying something in both hands.
Until I looked at the ref, I was really confused. Although people have been known to mooch from a tailgate* at college, I didn't see how it related to Carl's point, since it's done out in the open.

*A picnic served from the back of a truck or car, once a simple affair, now, as in most such things, completely out of control.

And, hoo-boy, you should've seen it when the school still allowed actual cars in the Grove.

Dora is a purplette (like brunette).
I'm too lazy to look it up, but Dora explicitly said she is a blonde just like her brother.

Bianchi is even a name for blondes in Italy or something.
She turns blonde when she lets her hair grow out. Like, say, back when she first met Cosette (and her name was "Beauvais").

This has nothing to do with bowel movements, and everything to do with avoiding a repeat of this, doesn't it?

I'm thinking you're right. Faye's probably still not comfortable with morning snuggles from either gender.

Maybe.  But, depending on he strength of the fan in the restroom, she may just be needing that amount of time for the evidence to dissipate.

So, it's early.  Sun's up in summer around 5 AM, CoD opens at what, 7?  8?  Still plenty of time for the morning trade.  And why should Faye wait for her morning... ablutions?

Raoullefere, tailgating is just following too closely, so closely that the door doesn't have a chance to shut between the person in front of you and yourself.  It's a great way to get in places you don't belong, so long as you don't look too out of place.

There's…something about Hanners' lipless smile that grows more disquieting each time i see it. A bit like Jessica hearing Piter De Vries' voice for the first time in Dune. Perhaps Faye should leap to defend herself from this…Hannelore.

I know the other use; in fact, I never knew the one I posted until I was exposed to it in college. And now, thanks to years of brainwashing indoctrination, it's the first meaning that comes to mind.

And tailgating isn't a patch on, say, just for multiple uses. I advise people to run from it, too.

So, if everyone in the strip is working at C. o' D., then who do they serve coffee to in the strips?

Maybe the need for more staff helps the believability of the strip in one sense - small shops still need more than 3 people on staff. Maybe it's an opportunity for Jeph to bring in a larger cast of characters that can be involved for shorter periods of time? Maybe some old friends will return for cameos? Maybe the whole thing really does end in a caffeine-induced orgy.

Thoughts?

I know from a girl in my hall that she went with a small towel covering only her lower half to the shower once at her boyfriend's dorm.

There's an old joke/urban legend about a college girl who, for whatever reason, was caught having to make it from the shower to her room with only a small hand towel to cover herself, and who realized that there were witnesses about.

So she used the towel to cover her face, on the theory that the most embarrassing thing she could reveal in that situation was her identity.

Panel 1 might make a great wallpaper, but I really like Hanners' earnest/intense expression in panel 4 versus Faye's embarrassed one.  As to Dora being the type to pop in while Faye's on the throne, she does seem likely to ignore such personal space/privacy issues, but I have a feeling that if Dora timed that wrong, she'd be running back out of there tout suite considering previous poop-humor related to Faye.  And no, I don't have any links to those, but I do have a link to this:

http://hijinksensue.com/2010/07/28/san-diego-comic-con-fancy-picto-comic-pt-2/

You may perhaps recognize a certain webcomic artist in panels 1 and 3.  ^_^  (I knowit's sorta unrelated to the thread, but I didn't see this posted anywhere else, so, well, yeah.)

Hey, panels 4 through 6, with the red spikes, it's R. K. Milholland (of Something*Positive)!

Also, my attempts at some wallpapers; They're pretty crude, just some enlarging, softening and sharpening...

800x600

960x600

1024x768

Unfortunately, flikr won't let me do wider than 1024...

Please, someone do bigger and better!

Hair Question

Maybe someone who still has hair can answer this:  the old witch said that a dye job had "fried" the girl's hair.  She advised her to only wash it every other day, with dog shampoo.  Instead, she dyes it again.  What happens to fried hair when someone does that?  Would it get brittle and break off?  Instead of too many blondes, Coffee of Doom could have some blondes and a girl with a buzz cut.

The only thing I know is that when people try to dye hair a lighter color, it usually involves bleaching in some way or form, and bleaching is usually what does the damage.  I don't know if hair coloring itself does any damage.

Edit:  Today's comic:  Something tells me Jeph's seen those looks in panel 4, before.  When disciplining Shelby, probably.

I can understand Cosette being scared of Dora, given that her first encounter with her involved pinpoint eyes, a psychotic grin, and a sword. Also she hasn't, despite Dora saying "We're friends," really spent that much time socializing with her yet. But Hanners, even considering her OCD-related timidity, has seen enough sides of Dora for such a long time that she should know better by now. That said, her scared-face in the second-last panel is adorable.

Forgive me for being (potentially) obtuse, but where did Jeph post that? I wouldn't ask if I hadn't already spent a good deal of time trying to figure it out myself.

Your edits are perfectly good, but I have a larger screen resolution so I'd like the highest-res image I can find. I can easily resize it to suit if need be.

Then again, Cosette might be worried because her first impression of Dora was psychotic, while Hanners might be worried just because this is her real first work experience and she doesn't have other bosses to compare to.

I'm guessing everyone reading this was thinking what Faye said in the last panel before she said it. And Hanners' main experience with bosses is her mother, so that look may be, "OMG, working for Dora's going to be just like working for Mom." That'd scare me, anyway.

I give Hanners a month, max, QC time. Which may be two years to you and me.

I can't decide if I like Cosette's new color or not. But I do wonder if the real reason it had to be changed was Jeph got tired of the shading he was likely having to do with the red.

Forgive me for being (potentially) obtuse, but where did Jeph post that? I wouldn't ask if I hadn't already spent a good deal of time trying to figure it out myself.

Look back in this thread! Specifically:

I, uh, guess none of you noticed Jeph post it in his Twitter feed. http://questionablecontent.net/random/1719p1.jpg

I think Dora should make her staff salute!

EDIT: I love the large version Jeph posted, but it's a bit TOO big for my (ancient) 1024x768 screen. Doesn't mean I didn't download it, though.

Dora's fourth panel response is pretty much dead on, even in some chain/franchise places.

I'd add, from harsh experience the last few months:
Do not cause me to have to call poison control. (safety violations)
Do not cause me to have to fill out an accident report.  (Yes, the blade is _very_ sharp)
Do not over-caffeinate yourself.  I will find you an unpleasant task to work off all that energy with.  (Mass Starbucks orders are bad.  As in, running around the room playing tag while customers watch bad)

Then again, those could fall under ISO Standard Fuck-Up

I think the broadsword is slightly more worrisome.

You're kidding right?
At least the broadsword only has two sharp edges.

Now that I think of it, where did Dora get one of those anyway; they're kinda illegal to make or sell in Malaysia and you won't get one through customs in most western nations...
I mean, my fighting spoon and arming fork were heirlooms so I guess Dora got her spatula that way but still.
It's a pity I might never be able to complete my combat cutlery place setting.

I give Hanners a month, max, QC time. Which may be two years to you and me.

Wow, it's just like Inception!

In the comments below 837, Jeph himself refers back to 10 in reference to the aprons.  But I'm pretty sure that 30 is the last time we see them, or Sarah.

Maybe they attracted too many allosaurs?

Edit:  Aprons last seen in 65, Sara in 66, no h.
