I think the first of Hanners' three "haughty" faces was best, though with any luck she'll forget to maintain her expression.   :-D  I wonder if she and Cosette will learn cappuccino-making before or after learning how to weild the battle spatula and broadsword.  I'm gonna guess after.

Hannelore looks like she is channeling her mom.

I thought of that, but Hanners just isn't showing that festering homicidal rage beneath the haughtiness.  Maybe after she's worked at CoD for a week or so.

And mmmm, coffee cake . . .

Intended as a result of leaning her head back, I should think.

Also, if Faye is left in charge of their training, this is going to be a fun week.

That was EXACTLY what I was thinking.

...and I predict she'll be back to being unemployed by the end of the week. Either that or she'll have destroyed the shop, along with most of Northampton.

I also liked the first of Hanners' contempt faces the best.  However, it looks like Dora doesn't think much of Faye's sense of priority.

My thought, too. Dora better be careful—Faye may awaken the Dark Lord (of Commerce) within, and they'll be renaming the place "Coffee with Kittens."

I'm not sure what's behind Jeph's desire to make Hannelore alternatively the cutest and ugliest character in his strip. It's hilarious at least, but it leaves me wondering what Hanners actually looks like.

I met her once at a show.  She actually looks nothing like how Jeph draws her in the strip.

I just realised why Cosette's previous employers have turned to crime/gone bust:

Bust: Cosette wrecks everything.

Crime: It's a more reliable income stream with Cosette working on an official line.

{edit}
If Hanners latte is as good as she says, then Dora should keep Hannelore.

Being serious point, I suspect Cosette would manage better if Dora gave Cosette:

  • Another dry run (theory lesson),
  • More space,
  • More time get used to it.

It looks like the incident happened because Cosette was rushing and panicking.

If that all fails then Cosette is probably not suited to working in a coffee shop.

Yes, she has experience!

However, don't forget how that ended.  That was one of the reasons I'm surprised by today's strip.  However, I've just realised -- we don't know what Dora thinks of Hanners lattes because she hasn't tasted a Hannerelore made latte.

Seems a bit...artificial or forced for Dora and Cosette just to be standing there staring after that mishap, and for Hanners to be completely oblivious to what's just happened. I know, I know, it's for the sake of the punchline, but still.

Unless, of course, Hanners is taking her 'lessons' from Faye to heart. And I'll add on that note, that I've decided I don't much care for Faye when she's happy. Now I have to work out why.

Right, that was Marten's attempt at espresso.

Hanners wasn't oblivious - she was just rubbing it in.  I firmly maintain she has a slightly evil streak, even though it's deeply buried.  We all do...

Not necessarily.  There's always that final scene from the first Edward Penishands movie (yes, they made sequels) (no, I won't link to it - look it up yerself).

Hanners wasn't oblivious - she was just rubbing it in.  I firmly maintain she has a slightly evil streak, even though it's deeply buried.

You may have something there. It's true that we've seen Hanners, in her more relaxed moments, tease her friends, like when she claimed to have spent years in bio-stasis on the space station or (even funnier) when she pretended to be unaware that she had multiple ear piercings, pulled a mock freakout, and then laughed and said "Gotcha!"

Jeph needs to redo the last panel with Cosette and Dora covered in a LOT more foam ... maybe licking it off each other ... and wallpaper size.
