I wonder how Angus was able to grab her other arm, the whole counter in between doesn't make it much easier to do that. And depending how fast he was, Faye has possibility to react, such as turning away her head, unless she wants it or is too stunned.

Even with just two eyeballs for expressiveness, Jeph still writes a whole damn backstory into that one panel.

That was dully inevitable.

So Faye's gonna try a guy she's clearly not attracted to but won't cheat.  Angus is the one who'll probably get hurt.

Odd. As Shadic points out, Faye says  otherwise.

I think you're confusing Faye's level of attraction to Angus with her neurosis about relationships. Here's the thing. I'm firmly convinced that, for all the carrying on she did later, Faye started a relationship (sort of) with Sven because she was on some level firmly convinced it would go nowhere, and was thus 'safe' (i.e. she was fairly sure of the outcome). I really wonder if the problem there wasn't that things didn't combust within a week or two.

On the other hand, Faye foresees no such obvious train-wreck in the future with Angus (but anticipates many concealed ones), which scares the bejesus out of her, hence her stalls—Faye's gotten to the point where she's not ready to instantly dismiss Angus and keep herself safe, but she's not prepared to go play in what she clearly sees as the relationship highway, thereby giving the loss-truck another chance to try to mow her down (her dad was it's first attempt). Thus, all the stalling and bullshit. In short, Faye's running like mad to stand still. Mostly, anyway. She's made a little progress—can she make more without taking her usual steps back first? (As I recall, she's due some).

What is it with Hanners starting Faye make out sessions.  She is 2 for 2 now.  Everytime she truimphs over her OCD Faye ends up kissing/being kissed. She is a catalyst for Faye relationships.

(Edit due to new comic).  YEEEEEEEEEEEAH ANGUS.

Angus is still alive and has his first date with Faye thanks to Dora

Next week will be very interesting

Will Faye kill Dora?
Will Hanners have to aid Faye to the bathroom?
Will Faye's brain permanently freeze?

So...Faye hooking up with Angus McBoring is supposedly a good thing?

Angus is basically Marten without the backstory and talent. And frankly Marten can afford to be a little bland, as he is the straight man that all the other quirky characters play off of. Angus is an ancillary character, and so needs more sharp-edged definition and character hooks.
Right now all we know about Angus is:
  • He used to an annoying customer.
  • He's the roommate of a far more interesting character.
  • He is apparently more good-looking than he is drawn.
  • Marten thinks he's an okay dude.
  • His presence is cock-blocking Sven right out of the strip.

He's not so much a character as a character-shaped hole whose boundaries are defined by actual characters surrounding him. He's the handsome non-prince that you live apathetically ever after with.  :|

We do know a fair amount about Angus.

He's drawn to bitchy women, he's persistent to a fault, he's compassionate and supportive toward Marigold, his backstory is a life of privilege, he talks faster than he thinks.

We know a lot about his psychology from his persistence in pursuing Faye when he might have formed relationships with any number of normal girls in the same amount of time. His ex-girlfriend just adds to the picture.

If Faye gets better and stops being abusive, will Angus lose interest in her?

As long as it's only the brutal punchings that cease, not the verbal sparring, I'm sure Angus will be fine...

So...Faye hooking up with Angus McBoring is supposedly a good thing?
<snip>

You forgot:
  • He's a character in progress in a webcomic.

Bellisario's Maxim.

If he were a new character, I'd agree. But this guy has been around for nearly half the strip. Sven had more character than this guy after only a handful of appearances.
