So basically, you're a Sven fangirl that dislikes the fact that Angus is in the way. Gotcha.
No, basically I'm a fan of interesting and dynamic characters.
With Sven and Faye, there was sparks, conflict, and growth. Jeph used foreshadowing, red herrings, and sleight of hand to draw us into the twisted skein of Faye and Sven's interaction. It was masterful.
With Angus and Faye, there is nothing. The only reason we had to believe that they were interested in each other is that everybody in the strip kept telling us that, over and over again. It feels forced and heavy-handed to me. It feels like they are being brought together for no other reason than to have Faye be with someone.
Angus seems like nothing more than Generic Rebound Hookup, and hopefully he won't last any longer than that type of thing usually lasts.
\ My opinion.
Are we reading the same comic? Or do you just skip the ones with Angus in them, assuming they'll be uninteresting?
Angus was interesting from the very beginning - coming to the coffee shop just to verbally spar with Faye made him a bit of an enigma. His persistence, in spite of her rebuffs (in the bar especially, when she actually
threw him across the room) was at the very least curious. Unlike Sven, whose behaviour was
very predictable, Angus was harder to see through.
And it's not the cast that tells us he's interested in her, though several of them have made that observation. Angus himself tells us he finds her intriguing in the "bro" scenes with Marten in fancy dress. The only reason the relationship didn't progress was Faye herself. After the Sven-pocalypse, she put all her emotions on hold. It wan't for Angus not trying, and he eventually got her to agree to a training-wheel relationship. Not that it worked well, and it was full of tension, witness the recent party and their 3rd grade behaviour.
Now the training wheels are off, and Faye is still in that stunned "I'm not falling over?" stage. As soon as she recovers and realises what's going on, she'll do her best to crash that bike...
Dinner should be interesting!
