...unfortunately, due to the bad economy, it's now the Cave of 16 1/2 Asses. (They keep one on part-time.)

Also...I'd hire Faye to be my caddy...

The list of weapons in the CoD arsenal grows. To the "anti-robbery broadsword" and the "malaysian battle spatula," we can now add the "special case 9-iron."

Special case in that Cosette can't cut herself with it.

I love Angus' expression in panel #3: he has semi-arrogant expectancy down to an art.

Wasn't Cosette at that party where he and Faye were arguing about music, though? I mean, the hair could throw him off*, but I'd think she'd remember.

protip: saying "sorry" repeatedly in a stressful situation is irritating to others.

learned it the hard way

I know.  But I can't stop myself.  I guess it's because it's how I practiced the "orr-" sound to keep my voice from atrophying in my homeschool days.

...saying it repeatedly during an OCD-fueled contempt-worthy coffee order, does it make it better or worse?

Lucky Cosette had that cami on under her espresso-covered shirt.  Or maybe it's a loaner they keep in the shop, like the emergency skirt

I dunno about the wallpaper worthiness of panel 3.  The face-off (pun intended) is good, and though it shows Angus' character pretty well, it's just not quite a "classic moment"... yet.

And if you need the lift of a 9-iron, you might as well just pick the ball up and throw it out of the damn trap!

Of course, the new hires are going to have enough trouble with the regular menu - no sense in making them work in the yak butter on top of everything else!

"yak butter on top of everything" was unintentional.  So was "making them work in the yak butter"...

If Cosette continues to use the machine in her apparent usual fashion, it WILL be a late machine -- which is bad, since Dora just got it.  On the other hand, it may still be under warranty.

I like how Angus' expression goes from "Ha ha!" in panel 3 to "Aw, c'mon!" in panel 4.

Ow. Memory from 1965, freshman year - I was a floor supervisor in Brody Cafeteria, the second-largest* student cafeteria in the world at the time. The bussers all wore white aprons and hairnets (I wore an Oxford shirt, black slacks and tie) - hey, this was 1965 people!

Walking to class one morning I met a very good looking young blonde woman. I smiled and nodded. She smiled back and said "Hi John!"

Don't know to this day who she was.

Anyone else notice Cosette with her new hair looks quite a bit like Marigold if you don't look at her face? Apparently two bad dye jobs have the same effect on hair as years and years of horrible hygiene.

This is definitely the most Awkward shock-kiss we've seen thus far - I don't think Angus is really smooth enough to pull it off.

Also, this is the first one not to get its own panel!  Does that mean that it's not as momentous as the others?

If so, I agree - it's cute, but it didn't really take me aback the way that the others did.  Maybe because it didn't come TOTALLY out of left field like the others did - with this one, we basically already know that they're "dating", so it isn't all that shocking.  Plus, look at Faye's face - there doesn't appear to even be a glimmer of potential that she might return said kiss.

Mainly, I think it's the artistic choices that do it - i.e. it doesn't have its own exclusive panel.  That, and the look on Faye's face.

Now see, the way I read this at first is that Faye wasn't surprised by the kiss, and may even have been enjoying it, but that Dora and Cosette walked in on them while it was in progress and she is reacting to that.

But now I'm not so sure. Judging by Faye's body language, it seems that she was taken aback by the kiss, and that she may not be ready for it.

However, Angus is on the other side of the counter from her, and if she wanted to avoid it, all she would have to do is take half a step back and she'd be out of reach.

Or else Angus just has Mad Ninja Kiss Attack Skillz.*

I believe she was more shocked than taken aback. somewhat similar to her reaction when she and Sven were getting it on. It could turn to a return kiss. Something like..  :-o :? :-) :-*
We're assuming that she doesn't want the kiss...what if she does, but is just shocked it happened so suddenly?

Small places that aren't that busy...

So the cliffhanger would be, if it were Friday, "will she melt into it, or will he wind up bruised?"

Actually, he may wind up bruised either way   ;)

But will bones be broken?

I think she's gonna go with it, myself.  It's the look she's giving him in panel 3, the "are you thinking what I'm thinking?" look, and she's just surprised he took action rather than delivering a sassy statement!

To paraphrase: "You wouldn't know what they were looking for if you didn't hear the voices in your head." (Thx Cheap Trick)

Really, to me, writing doesn't get any better than that: when your characters start telling you how things are going, and you're just along for the ride. Yes, I know it sounds like writers are crazy; that's because they are crazy—but usually only in very specific ways.

Look at the final two panels of yesterday's strip (or would it be two days ago now? Whenever the latte machine exploded) and tell me there are no similarities.
Yes, now that you point it out, I do see it. It looks—you know, it almost looks like they are drawn by the same guy.

And on that note, that new print is delightful and d'lovely—Raoul want.

Come to think of it, it's been a while since we last had an "anthro-pc antics" comic.

Not that I'm suggesting that Jeph should make tomorrow's comic one of those.

I wonder when we'll see a first kiss in QC that doesn't have one party in shock/surprise.

At least it wasn't the guy this time. xD

Hmm, was there any shock/surprise when Cosette and Steve kissed?  What about Penelope and Wil?  (Or did we not see their first kiss?)  At least Jeph's going with "surprise kiss" rather than "surprise buttsecks."  It is nice that it's the female being surprised this time.  And this is at least the second time that Hanners exploring her boundaries has inspired kiss-related chance-taking, though we know how well that turned out . . .

Foolhardy though this may have been on Angus' part, he's lucky to be on the other side of the counter -- Faye would have to break through to knee him in the store.  I suspect Faye's discomfort stems largely from the facts that 1. she was caught off-guard, and 2. she is being kissed IN PUBLIC.  D'awwww.

In anticipation of tomorrow's comic: RIP Angus McPhee.

Well, that's one way to draw out the suspense...

Then Jeph can pull a "scene deleted" moment and show us the aftermath.

Then insanity..."

I am hesitant to change the poll to ask the question we're all thinking:

How badly does Faye hurt Angus tomorrow?

That was dully inevitable.

So Faye's gonna try a guy she's clearly not attracted to but won't cheat.  Angus is the one who'll probably get hurt.
