Who would win in a fight between X and Y?
« on: 10 Jul 2010, 15:33 »

A while back there was a discussion of who would win in a fight between Martenmom and Hannermom. The majority view was that Martenmom would win.

For the first matchup, let's do Pennelope and Dora. Dora has the broadsword, but the Pen-pen is mightier than the sword.

Depends - is Pene-lope having one of her blind-rage-against-the-world episodes?

Cause if nothing else, she'd disarm Dora by forcing her into pointing out how irrational Pen-pen's being!

I'd have to call it a tie. Dora's too altruistic to harm anyone outside of fantasies, but also violent enough to match whatever's thrown at her just enough to stop it. So Penelope would probably rage for an hour or so before they both pass out, Penelope first. Of course, it being the QC Universe, Dora would probably land on her skull-on-skull. So I guess it comes down to whose diet has more calcium in it.

Yeah but she lacks the inner space to do well in a fight. It'd be like a grizzly bear fighting a cheetah.

Randy wins against everybody. Except against Shelby, because they don't fight.

Randy vs. Momo goes like this;

"H!! I'm Randy!  I'm a Bandicoot!!"

"I know."

"Oh.  OK."

Randy against Pintsize, Randy would win due to the infinite power of "Hi, I'm Randy! I'm a bandicoot!" That is to say, in any given situation he can still say "Hi, I'm Randy! I'm a bandicoot!" Pintsize would chop his head off and it would somehow reattach itself to his body and he'd just keep smiling and repeating his refrain. Pintsize would build a giant machine to fuck his nipples, and while it would somehow be successful, he'd just keep smiling and informing us of his name and species. His finding of someone he couldn't torture would trigger another Pintsize artistic crisis and he'd end up declaring submission... using only the lyrics to Crazy Train.

My Jack Handy contribution to the discussion: People are always asking 'Who would win in a fight between X and Y?' That's such a silly question. X will always win against Y because X has one more limb to pummel with than Y does.

Perhaps if you chain Meville to a weight and throw him in the ocean with the octopus. Otherwise, good luck getting the cat to jump in a tank of water, and good luck getting the octopus to come out into the air to fight—I understand octopuses have firm beliefs about discretion being the better part of valor. Or running like a motherfucker when they even suspect they're losing, call it what you will.

It is possible to get Mieville into water, Dora gave him or her a bath once. Mieville gets mean, though, so the octopus probably would run away.

Wisdom is never handy, it only comes with time.

Or when unsolicited.

I actually think that's a typo. But just in case, I fixed it.

Or when unsolicited.
I think that's called 'bad advice.'

Advice comes from all corners, solicited or not, good and bad (and ugly).  Only some of it stems from wisdom (usually the good stuff), and it's frequently unsolicited, and unrecognized until much later.

Surely you've had a "that (crazy) old dude was right!" moment at some time in you life.  I've had a few.  And I'm getting to the point where I can be on the other side of those moments now.

The only problem is that when you pass on your wisdom, nobody listens... they only realize you're right later on.  And then you can't say,

"I told ya so!"

Not as often as I've had the opposite experience. Of course, the cod in question was often my grandfather, and he thought his father, something of a civil war holdout, had all the answers, so that may explain some of that.

His favorite aphorism was: "If I tell you a rooster dips snuff, you better look under his wing." I never pointed out the physiological barriers to this.

So, Marten vs. Angus is...

disappointing, at best.

And probably a draw.  Not that anyone cares.

At least until Dora and/or Faye grab(s) each of them by the ear and/or smacks them on the back of the head and tell(s) them to act like grown ups...
