Faye is a member of the Darth Vader school of underling-motivation.

Personally I think that, somewhere in the back of her head, there is a little voice in side Hanners (that probably sounds a lot like her mother) telling her that she signed up for this and that she should have known what it would be like, and that she needs to suck it up and get back to work.
Yes. My little voice sounds like my Grandma. Go Hanners!
I hate that little voice, it ruins my day unless I shut it up with alcohol and pizza. My little voice likes to party.

In a contest of pure grit, could anyone compete with Hannelore? She's got the courage of a bullfighter to face her daily psychological problems.

I don't get Faye calling them "minibosses". Is there a way to read that which makes sense?

Here, Faye is using the term miniboss to be synonymous with the word minion. A minion would be an underling of a boss. The bosses of Coffee of Doom are Dora and Faye, (or just Dora if you're a stickler) hence Cossette and Hanners being minibosses.

And as of 0655 EST, 23 Sep 10, here are the poll results:

Alternate jobs for Cossette that will result in lots of hilarity for us and less loss of business for CoD

Padded floor salesperson  12 (25%)
Panhandler  1 (2.1%)
Munitions plant worker (I didn't say it had to be safe)  10 (20.8%)
Product demonstrator at Costco  12 (25%)
Wait a minute, where's my fanservice?  13 (27.1%)

Total Voters: 48

Every once in a while I wonder if people are motivated by something other than there genital region.  Given that the most consistent result has been for people wanted fanservice from cartoons, I'm thinking not, therefore today's poll will be completely fanservice.

You have been warned.

I think the term is "biological imperative".

Of course, you then need to allow for psychological twisting of that biological imperative, which travels hand in hand with social repression.

Put it all together, it spells "MO-O-THER"!

Sorry, not sure where  that came from...

Unless Fay is referring to the band Minibosses (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minibosses), who are originally from Northhampton. But I don't see how that makes sense either. Could be one of Jeph's obscure music references that I would never understand if it weren't for Google.

I've said it before and I'll say it again—sadly, Faye is not a person for whom things can go right for very long. She can't seem to deal with complete happiness, and so, when she's not being oppressed, becomes a horrendous bitch. Faye apparently requires an everlasting O'Connor Moment, or at least a frequent one. Otherwise, fairly soon, she's going to be hunting the streets for puppies to kick.

Not that I would necessarily mind that, but it is a symptom of a gaping character flaw.

You make a good point; Faye comes out and gives two scared people some much-needed comforting, and then sticks the knife in and twists, for her own sick gratification (AND for an unexpected punchline; when you live in Joke World, you gotta break some omelets...)

I hadn't seen that story before, but I have seen selfish, annoying people who'd benefit from a little mild shooting, on occasion.

[Note: I don't see Jeph stooping to having Faye kick puppies, but GUEST ARTISTS! Yoo-hoo! Get right on it!]

I mean, he might be, but I don't see it. (He seems much more the type to take what he gets from the ladies who make themselves available to him, not actively woo a lady. Yet, anyway)

Sven doesn't have to seduce Hanners (from what we've seen, he never seduces women anyway-he just gives in when they decide to jump his bones). The girl has never been on a real date, he has no romantic or sexual experiences with boys, her OCD issues have pretty much repressed her sexuality.

All it's going to take is that "pretend" date arousing sexual and romantic feelings in Hanners, then add some alcohol to bring that repression crumbling down, and Sven could find himself getting jumped by a horny Hannelore. Even a few months ago, I couldn't see anything like that happening, but with Hanners willing to explore possibilites, even in a "pretend" fashion, then anything could happen.

And considering Sven's track record with the ladies...this won't end well.

I think Faye's thinking on this matter may not be entirely clear.

I mean she pactically attacked Sven during their first, err, encounter, but she seems to beleive that Sven has an almost magical power to get into ladies' pants.

One might even say she thinks he's some kind of Svengali.  8-)

Put if you look at what actually happened, Faye caught Sven comepletely by surprise. You would think that if he was using some kind of magical seduction ability, he at least would be able to tell when it's about to take effect.

Could it be that Faye's perception of that evening has been altered by her feelings about what where it ultimately led, and may even be in denial about her responsibility for the evenings festivities:

"I didn't get tipsy and horny and decide on a whim that it might be fun to jump the bones of my best friends brother, Sven used his magical lady catchin' power to make me get all higgledy-piggeldy and lose total control over my choices. Repeatedly, over a period of several months. And then he dumped me, the fucking pig"

I think Hannelore and Sven will have a delightful (and completely chaste) time on their "date."

Either that, or Hanner's's's horny juices are about to overcome her crazy juices, and all she needs is a little vino and the right mood lighting to put her over the edge. She may even be unconsiously engineering such a situation. Yes it's completely out of character for the Hannelore we know and love, but do not underestimate the power of horniness combined with alcohol to make people behave in unusual ways. (Anyone ever seen a wet t-shirt contest?)

That doesn't mean the crazy juices won't take over after the horny juices have been, err, drained, as it were.

Something tells me Dr. Corrine is about to make her next boat payment. (Unless she has to spend it all on yarn to update the chart, which has surely become much more complicated!)

Yes, Faye has thought out this fantasy. Only problem is, unless Sven is somewhere, deep inside, exactly as wierd as Hannelore, he's going to be so turned off by the end of all that it'd be a miracle if he got an erection a week afterward.

I mean, a movie about fonts? Jesus Christ on a beanpole!

I think Faye's thinking on this matter may not be entirely clear.

[Snip]
Yes, but Faye's seen the aftereffects. Plus, you forget—whilst the 'look' didn't work on Hanners that night, it did work on Faye. All that aggression on her part you point out happened after Faye blushes from indirect exposure. This is not excusing her responsibility, (God knows I've pointed out the other reason she tripped Sven often enough) but it does give her reason to believe Sven does have this ability to some degree.

I will agree that, to make herself feel better, Faye has likely worked out how Sven could 'net' all of her female friends, except, hopefully, Dora. Hopefully.

The big thing that Faye, Dora, et al. are assuming is that Sven actually wants to seduce Hannelore.  Yes, she's skinny and blonde and innocent-looking, which seems to be his type, but I think he's honestly trying to move on from that old persona.

The catch is that I think he might actually do something very similar to the scenario Faye paints, and as a result, Hannelore will get scared that he really is trying to get her into the sack.  But if he were to go all-out on this date, I think it'd be because he's genuinely trying to show Hanners a good time, not because he's after any kind of sweaty reward.

Unless, of course, he deliberately shows her a mediocre time.  A less-than-perfect-fantasy date, because "That's how romance works in real life."

Either one, your pick.

Did anyone else notice that Hanners even mentioned a case where she could kiss a boy?

So, as of 0650 24 Sep 10 the results are:

Fanservice, why we want it

I'm a socially maladjusted individual who will never know the real thing  10 (21.7%)
Just because   7 (15.2%)
Normal, healthy individual with an active fantasy life  15 (32.6%)
Don't judge me, otherwise I reveal the "noodle incident"  6 (13%)
BR, shouldn't you have been giving us fanservice?  8 (17.4%)

Total Voters: 46

So, most of you are holding onto the mental image that you are normal - keep it up.

though faye probably just sees Sven and Blonde, his type

When have we ever seen Sven with a blonde?

Yes, she's skinny and blonde and innocent-looking, which seems to be his type

Again, have we been reading the same comic? If he has a 'type', this ain't it.

so, i usually lurk a lurk a lurk on these forums, but i thought I'd toss out my prediction, so that I can be soundly denied.

Sven takes Hanners out on the date. The date goes well, with Sven not hitting on Hanners, but calmly going over date etiquette with her in the situations that ensue. They have an overall good time, and he gets a super-di-duper rare hanners hug. (That is promptly followed by a scalding shower for hanners in the privacy of her apartment.)

On the date, Hanners realizes that Faye did break Sven. That Sven misses Faye, still wants her, and is filled with regret over what happened, and, despite what Sven protests to, he *has* turned over the leaf he was talking about, and it was the loss of Faye that made him do it.

While she wont say anything to Faye about it immediately, it will get around to Faye quickly because Dora will want a FULL FREAKING REPORT on that date. In fact, she'll probably be waiting in Hannelore's apartment to accost her for information.

This is all, assuming, of course, the entire QC cast isn't on a ninja mission to stalk them the whole date to see how it goes and jump to Hannelore's defense should sven attempt any smarminess.

Due to various circumstances I've seen that movie about fonts 3 times. I can't say it impacted my sexual performance at all, positively or negatively.

Ninja mission?  They have all the stealth skills of the Scooby gang.

amandathehunter...you should post more. If that's not the most reasonable prediction offered on these forums for the coming events...well, I don't even know...

Here's hoping, few jokes tossed in for good measure, the actual events aren't too far detached from that.

Um...

Actually it totally is.  Seriously.  There's, like, a fair bit of evidence about that.  So in answer to your question... I guess we're not reading the same comic?  Because, y'know, in the one I'm reading... there's this whole big thing about Sven liking blondes. ;)

LOL, I never meant to imply that it would be a SUCCESSFUL Ninja mission. If that were the case, I could see the whole thing being played for laughs, with Hannelore and Sven completely aware of everyone's presence, and going out of their way to make things seem completely different from how they actually are. (The mental image of Sven and Hannelore going back to Sven's apartment, and randomly moaning each others names, then Hannelore listing off a cleaning solution to get spilled semen out of silk boxers while they eat pancakes and play scrabble has me LOLLING HARD.)
