I didn't know their AI was capable of pathing with ladders, but that's as good an explanation as any.

What I don't know is how my sheep got out of the sheep pen and into the cow pen.

Hey there, how do you join the server? It looks like a lot of you guys are on and I've been meaning to get back into Minecraft.

That said, I have no idea what my nickname is, ever since Mojang changed to that e-mail system I can't be certain.

Well, that was weird. I entered a minecart in the subway and it immediately kicked me out and took off without me. I sprinted after it for a while when I suddenly stopped dead. I turned around and saw this:

(click to show/hide)

I slowly started sinking into the ground until I was at the very bottom of the world, surrounded by nothing but darkness. I could still see cave systems and tunnels above me.

(click to show/hide)

I could mine some of the stone near bedrock but not enough to actually get up there, and I could even move into the void freely.

When I pressed shift the game suddenly realised that I was supposed to be in a minecart and put me back at the place where it stopped, but for a while the server was treating the world as I was still in the minecart and started unloading the chunks that got out of range of the minecart, which was only transporting my ghost. Or was it my ghost that was floating around in the void? I don't know. Shit's weird.

Yeah, happened to me in a boat once. For some reason the server didn't load the chunk I was sailing into, and I sailed off the edge of the world and fell into the void. Logged out & back in and I was where I was supposed to be, so no harm done. I was worried I'd come back inside solid rock.  :-D

Pumpkin helmet and flame enchant sword = sneak up and ambush.

You need not a pumpkin helmet, just attack their feet without a flame sword.
The fire will make them teleport a lot, but if you attack their feet, they'll almost never teleport.

Login at 1.7.4 screen, click Play, system starts, shows the Mojang screen, then loops back to 1.7.4 screen.
?WTF?

I've removed Minecraft entirely and downloaded new version: still wont start.

used to work on this laptop.  Still works on the Family Prime desktop.  And I can't find a solution online.

any ideas  :?

I'm not used to being stumped by a program, but I stink at Java aplets.

Probably have to re-install Java. I can't recall what my own issue was, or even what program I had the issue with, but I did have to re-install Java about 3 months ago and that fixed whatever was happening.

Late to the bandwagon as always, As of 48 hours ago I have been a proud player of Minecraft. I bought it because I am slightly less poor than usual and the children who I babysit are way way into it and I was like "why not"

This has been the best/worst decision of my life. Best because I freaking love survival mode (I know have an established two story home with 6 chickens and 3 cows) and worst because I swear I don't lose enough time on the computer to begin with. I'm filled with this extreme envy whenever I hear people talking about things on Minecraft I am yet to discover how to do (which is basically everything at this point).

Why did no one warn me about this
I don't have time to go into full blown Obsession. I've barely recovered from the initial attack from last one, the Oddworld series.

Yes, I need to whitelist him, though, so PM me his Minecraft handle. Same goes for anybody else who'd like to jump on, including close friends. The server is a bit quiet lately, but it's paid up for a full year from when we started, so no fear for it going away any time soon. :)

I've recently started playing Minecraft with a friend again, on my own server running Beta 1.7.3., so a version directly before the adventure update. I still consider it the best version yet.

Maybe this time I'll be able to finish my gigantomanic project which I started on three different servers but never finished...

Hunger, for one thing. When I'm underground, building for hours (real life) I don't like to have to carry some food with me, to not die from every small fall because hunger reduced my health to half a heart. I don't see the need for experience points in a game which, to me at least, is about constructing interesting stuff. Same goes for the End and the fighting system. And from the newer changes I don't really like the Villages and such. I don't know, I feel it just pushed the game in the wrong direction. Yes, the introduction of the Creative mode, was good, but I liked the "survival building" aspect. I would love to have a classic "survival" mode in addition to Creative and Adventure, but that's probably not going to happen.

Edit: and I almost forgot the fucking chests. These fucking chests. Blocks are supposed to be one block wide and long. That is so fucking annoying.

PvP is turned off on the server. Also, it probably hasn't been updated which is why you can't get on with a newer version of the client.

Speaking of downloads, here's the current state/save of the QC server for anybody who wants to download it for their personal archive. The server hosting will expire at the end of October. My apologies for not keeping up with more recent requests to join. It was a lot of fun during the early days, though.

When I have a powerful enough funding, I'll see what I can do about getting a new QC-community server going. It'll be a while, though - lots of personal things in the way.

It will probably contain lots of small nifty things here and there, if I end up doing such a thing, and likely 1.7.9 ( I personally use CraftBukkit, and still swear by their API, even though they DID get DMCA'd pretty hard by some legal loophole ).

I'm playing Minecraft 1.8.1 vanilla right now. I tried to start a few months ago but made a hash of it, got killed by a Creeper blowing up next to one of the walls of my hut on the first night and ended up not making much progress. I've restarted with a few "n00b-no-more" steps.
  • Didn't stray too far from my spawning point;
  • Instead of going to the top of a hill, I have just carved into the nearest available hillside for my starting hut;
  • Making a bed was an urgent priority;
  • Locating nearby sand and water was a priority.
I'm actually having much better time now I've gone in with a measure of organisation. Now, the time has come for me to carve into the depths of the Earth to find iron, gold and redstone (optimistically). I need, need, need iron to do what I want to do next which is to clear out a space in front of the entrance to Ben's Mine to plant my seeds and start raising wheat. To do that, I need a bucket!

Depending on how much minerals are around, I may not move far; I might even just build myself a Hobbit-Hole out of the entrance to my mine or something.

Higher-challenge goals for you:
1) Build a well-guarded "pit of doors", for eventually pulling (and if necessary, curing) two villagers into - this will spawn iron golems, which are a fantastic source of iron ingots.
2) Locate a spawner. Rare loot is very likely, and it can also be made into an XP/loot farm.
3) Learn how to duplicate powered rails. Fast transport is always welcome.

Damn. Things sure have changed since I last played Minecraft. I think it was still in beta back then.
Yeah, if you want to get back in the groove of things, I recommend 1.7.9, imo, but the latest is 1.8.1. 1.7.9 is probably not going to overwhelm you with oceanic BS, so you'll probably be safe.

Spawner?

A block that generates a particular type of hostile mob creature (Creeper, zombie, spider or skeleton archer) in an open square around it every few seconds when a player character is nearby. They can't be crafted, only destroyed or disabled then moved and reactivated elsewhere.
