Question: Bike Rental (Las Vegas) reposted
« on: 17 Sep 2010, 11:47 »

My grilfriend is being sent to Las Vegas for some work related thing and we're getting a bunch of stuff included in the trip (LV would not exactly be the sort of place we would go on our own, so the incentives are worth the trip).  She will be working for most of the week leaving me with little money to do much of anything but plenty of free time.

Here is the question:
are any of you perhaps living in the area / have lived or been in the area and are aware of anywhere I could rent a relatively cheap bike?  Most of the stuff I have found is in the ballpark of $200 for the week... I've never tried renting a bike before, but I sort of feel like that is a little excessive when I just saw a nice one today at a thrift store for $40.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well, why not just buy the thrift store bike? You don't necessarily have to keep it, you could always pawn it off or just give it back to them to re-sell.

if it comes down to it I will likely try that, but with thrifting nothing is ever guaranteed, so I may not find a bike, or if I do happen to find one, maybe it will be gigantic (I am pretty short so I would assume probably well over 50% of anything in existence is "too big," including bikes).

I posted on the LV craigslist, too... sooo maybe that will work if there are no QC-ers from the area.

Yay for choosing cycling! A Google search with the terms bike rentals las vegas :-D produced nearly 900,000 hits... and a map.

yeah, but like I said after the checking the first three hits that did have rentals, it was all bikes for $200 a week (some for, like, $175)... my guess is these types of places are for "serious bikers" cause they were pretty elaborate bikes that were likely for people looking to go on crazy western terrain or something.  Thanks!

...Biking? In Vegas?

Assuming that you're going to be there this month, it's still in the 90's and very dry. It's going to be pretty hot if you're going anywhere.

Of course, if you're not going to be on the Strip (Las Vegas Boulevard), a bike might not be a bad idea - but keep in mind that distances are very deceiving in the desert.

Where exactly will you be staying?

oo, I did not specify that it will be in November, so I assume it will be a little more tolerable!  Looks like we will be right off that Blvd, so that's good... anything actually cool to do?  I figured I would swing by some of the casinos for photos... looks like there's some place called StripBurger which I could assume be two very different types of places.

there is a roller-coaster on top of a hotel that is pretty awesome. The coyote ugly bar was a lot of fun and not too expensive to drink at. Tropicana casino was cheapest tables i could find if you plan on gambling. As for bike rentals, its a tourist trap of a city so 200 is prolly the best your gonna find. I'd either keep trying craiglist or maybe just buying a cheap one at the pawn shop and then selling it back when you leave.
