The Wonder Years
« on: 08 Nov 2010, 16:52 »

Saw these guys open for Four Year Strong in Boston a few weeks back and really loved their energy so i decided to pick up their new (or most recent I guess) album. Absolutely blown away by it. What do you guys think of them? How do you feel about the philly/boston/jersey punk/hardcore scene that's been really thriving the last few years?

Lmao, I have a feeling this thread will not go well for you. Honestly, I dislike most bands that play this kind of pop-punk, but something about this band always brings me back to them. Just really catchy and fun, I guess. Even though I think they were trying to be witty with it, the whole "realist pop-punk" shtick is such bullshit, though.

What's "realistic pop-punk" and why isn't this band The Ergs!.

Are you suggesting that the OP has embarked upon an errant venture?

There's more to Jersey punk than just the Ergs, man.

There's the other 473 Jersey/NYC/Ohio bands that Mikey Erg plays in.

On the vein of Boston hardcore..I'm not huge into hardcore, but I've seen a band called Refuse/Resist a few times, and they put on a good show.

Jersey punk

Second part of this may have been a joke.  I still want to know what "realistic pop-punk" is.

The newest Dopamines album seemed to say exactly what I was feeling for about the first half of this year/until I got a job.

That's kinda realistic.

The Upsides is a great album, and I pretty strongly dislike most pop-punk, so there's that.

It's definitely recommended if you can stand an embarrassing style for some embarrassingly honest lyrics.  Sometimes, it's almost like reading this poor guy's diary entries when he's just feeling the worst.  Regardless, it takes me back to the good old days, but it's better than the good old days, it's a great time.

Exactly how I feel. I actually like the style (despite the incessant mockery from my friends ^___^) and these are some of the most honest lyrics i've ever heard.
