so i've come to some beard conclusions

1) i think this is ok to keep it groomed to
2) i used to shave it right to like my jawline, but now i keep about an inch or so of beard that actually goes under it on the chin, which makes it look a lot more natural and highlights the shape of my face more, vs. this

I had a chinstrap and a goatee and a moustache together before but it was annoying me so I trimmed it down to the 'captain'.

Johnny, you stole my beard from when I was your age; colour and all.  You've just trimmed it a bit better.

Confession - when I had a beard it wasn't for style,  it was for laziness,  to save the trouble of shaving...

That was taken near the start of the growth of the beard.  A few months later it looked like this:

Johnny, that is an excellent beard. I think anything down under the chin is safe from being deemed "neckbeard" until it starts to get onto vertical surface, anyway.

Over Christmas I was visiting my special lady friend's parents, and her dad showed me the most amazing picture of the beard he had in the early 90s. He looked like Italian Allen Ginsberg. I should have stolen it. Sorry guys.

That is not scruff yet, it is still stubbly. Give it another couple of millimetres. That shit would still be prickly, and scruff is soft.

Damn, Johnny. He just said you look like you belong in the '60s. You gonna take that?

I was recently told my hair made me look like Richard Dean Anderson. I'm not sure whether she meant MacGyver RDA or Stargate RDA, because neither of them have hair like mine. But it's either a guy with a mullet or a 60-year-old man. And I think she meant it as a compliment.

So, since this is the official beardthread, I have a question regarding the growing of the mentionned beard.
I read on multiple blogs and websites that when you are growing a beard, you shouldn't shave/trim before the first 4 weeks have passed. Now, it has been a week since I stopped shaving and the neck beard is anoying me, am I allowed to trim/shave/define a neck line or will it ruin the beard forever?

It's just hair, but it's just hair in a weird place. I can see chest hair, and maybe back hair (I have never had to interact with back hair though), but it's just a bit much for me when the front and the back try valiantly to join over the top :/
