Possibly.

Some people do not mind hair on bodies, some people do. Personally I don't like hairy backs! Backs are sexy, I prefer them unadorned with hair. But I get weirded out by people who shave everything. Like....everything. Women, men, whoever. Leave some hair on your body that is not on your head.

I had recurring nightmares about orangutan assaults when I was a small child.

It's a good thing I'm over that or I would be really really sad right now.

I hate body hair. If it weren't for how painful it would likely be when it starts to grow back, I would probably shave everywhere except for my arms.

You could just get yourself waxed? I'm gonna start waxing my arms, shoulders and back at some point in the future. But not my chest. 1) I like my chest hair, 2) I've done that before, I have no inclination to do it again.

Hair doesn't hurt when it grows back? I shave some parts of my body and wax others and it has never hurt once when the hair starts growing back. It gets itchy sometimes, and ingrown hairs are sometimes an issues, but it has never been what I would consider painful. Does it hurt when your facial hair grows back?

Also I bough a magazine recently that has some photos that are appropriate for this thread. I will scan them in in a sec.

I have gotten used to the itching on my face. I had to shave part of my leg once, and it hurt like hell for days afterwards any time something ran against the grain of the hair on it.

Really? I love the feel of freshly-shaved legs, on myself at least. I haven't spent a whole lot of time stroking other people's hairless legs. I think it's partly because shaving brings the top layer of skin off too, so it's like super-quick exfoliation.

The itchiness goes away once you shave that part of your body enough times, which is why five o'clock shadows don't have guys rubbing pumice stones on their faces. As far as body hair, I get the itchiness but never the pain. Except ingrown hairs around the crotch area that constantly rub against your undergarments/pants, those are straight excruciating.

I like some of my body hair and dislike other parts. My back is hairless except for a patch right above my waist which I feel just looks stupid. I'm alright with chest hair but I like the way I look without it. I've shaved it a few times and I'd do it more often if it weren't for the fact that hair grows back pretty fast so it looks the way you intended for about a day and then you have stubble on your chest which looks arguably weirder than anything else.

also! fun fact - hairy dudes ARE nice and fuzzy to cuddle but they also tend to generate more dust in their house than the less hairy dudes because of how many more little particles their body hair sheds every day (in my experience). not really a problem if you don't care about dust though.

See I don't even care what anyone else thinks, I just don't really like how my hair gets when it's long so I would rather have it trimmed. Can't be bothered to have it shaved/waxed but I generally cut my own head hair so it's not so much of a problem to clip the rest of it at the same time when it's getting out of hand. This is more of a stylistic thing because my hair has a tendency at a certain point to be halfway between straight and wavy and just looks pretty damn ridiculous. I'd actually like to grow it out on top but I just get fed up with the intermediate stages and can't let it get to the length I'd really enjoy.

Fun fact: despite this, I have never done anything to curb the growth of hair on my chest.

I'm not insecure about it. I just hate the way it looks. And for some purposes, at least keeping some body hair very short can be important.

So THAT'S why my apartment is so damn dusty all the time. I thought it was just because it's an really crappy old place with wooden floors.

Yeah, also it is an urban myth that dust is 90% shed skin cells or whatever, so I am not sure how you could have a noticeable difference between how much dust a shaved person has in their house versus a bearded person unless you involve other factors. Hairy people generate more loose hair obviously, and I for one can vouch for how my hair seems to be everywhere but my sister's seems to only ever wind up in her brush, but I don't think that has much to do with dust.

My legs/butt (tmi?, sorry) are pretty hairy so wearing form-fitting jeans leads to me getting a fair number of ingrown hairs. It is the price of wearing decent jeans.

Dude, since when do wooden floors make dust?  Carpets make more...

But it's much more noticeable on wooden floors which gives the perception of there being more. If you're used to walking around on nice smooth floorboards, the moment they start getting dusty and gritty and the soles of your feet start getting filthy you notice straight away; whereas carpet doesn't feel all that different until it gets really dirty.

EDIT: oops, simul-posting.

I never said wooden floors make dust. The dust, I have found, is much more noticeable on wooden floors. If I go two weeks without sweeping the floors in my apartment, there will be a fine coating of dust everywhere I don't walk.

Ah, I see.  Yeah, old everything generally makes more dust, and having wood floors I should have got what you meant there.

Sam, I don't think he means that more expensive jeans=ingrowns.
I assume he means the price of wearing jeans that are more fitted, rather than these, which would not rub your leg hair but make you look like you might be smuggling a sleeping bag.

Friction will cause hair to get rubbed off and any hair that has been removed has a chance of being ingrown. Tight pants can cause hair to get rubbed off. He's saying he's putting up with ingrown hairs because he's wearing jeans that make his butt/leg region look good.
