She could just let it grow out again, but then Jeph would have to remember to darken the tips.

I kinda love the purple hair.

It suits her more than black or her natural blonde. She's too spunky for brunette. She's too grounded for pink or green. Purple fits her eccentric personality but doesn't scream at people for attention.

Now, I would LOVE it if she grew her hair out again and actually committed. Then maybe red.

Similar to my avatar, but not similar to my real life appearance (Although I did dye it for my April O'Neil costume this year)

Here's kinda what I was thinking, but I'm still not sold. I think purple is still better.

I'd like to see her hair ENTIRELY its natural color, w/o the black tips...then maybe she could go back to black, but it would be nice to see her Bianchiness in full swing just the once.

She had problems before she went purple, but they sure seemed to accelerate after that. This is coincidence but it's a basis on which to build silly theories.

I was reading the archives again this weekend and I have to say this was by far my favourite Dora look! I like the purple hair don't get me wrong. The black hair made her look like Marty's sister and I think the blonde and black shaggy-ish hair just gave her a nice kinda different look in my opinion.

Post hoc, ergo propter hoc.

Yup, Dora dyes her hair purple then breaks up with Marten. That must be the reason. No other possible explanation. If you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.

If I may be indulged in a silly theory some more, consider that everyone who has dyed her hair purple has broken up with Marten, and since the strip began nobody who hasn't dyed her hair purple has ever broken up with Marten (Faye and Sara were never together with him).

Post hoc egro propter hoc meets universal generalization from a single data point.

Actually, when you look at it the 3 doras have had some differences, black hair dora was the whinny insecure one.  The blonde look she was a bit more warmly and nice and more maternal.  The purple one was just insane and more of a bitch.

Maybe it IS the hair dye--at least indirectly.  Maybe she's just cranky cause she never got caught up on her sleep.  Tired and hungry is the fastest way to turn me into a rude crank who makes bad decisions and ignores other people's wants and needs.

(Maybe I should have a sandwich and take a nap, just to be safe)

Maybe the hair dye is just Jeph inserting symbolism to represent the different phases of the Dora/Marten relationship. Black was her original hair color, signifying the beginning of their relationship and Dora getting together with him the way she already is. Blond with black tips represents her getting more accustomed to the relationship as she lets some of true feelings show. Purple means that she thinks things are going too good, so she MUST make a change in the relationship and do something, before he does it first.

And next? She shaves all of her hair off, signifying the end of the relationship.

That's making sense.

On the nonsense front, has anyone noticed that purple hair dye contains dihydrogen monoxide? See http://dhmo.org/ for comprehensive information about this deadly chemical. It is found in the brains of all mentally ill people who've been tested for it, and is a major constituent of substances which cause impaired decision making, such as tequila. Dora would not have broken up with Marten if she had been free of dihydrogen monoxide.

DHMO is known to cause problems with AnthroPC's too.

Many of the characters in the strip believe DHMO is the way to reduce the effects of a hangover, though.

Mine, too, but indirectly!  At the bottom of this site is a real ad, for Acme Klein Bottles.  I met this guy about 12 years ago at a national mathematics convention (what?).  He had an assortment of bottles, and we talked for a while about how to design one that could be used for everyday drinking.

Looks like he worked out hte bugs - he now sells a Klein stein!

Shop on the Mobius strip - you're always on the right side of the road.

That banner ad was, indeed, the icing on the cake. But you're saying that it's for real as opposed to, say, something that escaped from XKCD or SpikedMath? What can I say?

Whoo-pee!

I know I'm a bit late here in that I merely wish to express my opinion about the hair color change rather than amuse myself with tinfoil-hatted personality theories... but here's my take:

1. I like purple hair.
2. I think purple hair is better suited to other people than Dora, but it's so close to jet black hair that I hardly register much of a difference.
3. I agree that the black/blond hair was the most interesting of the colors that suited her.

Or perhaps Dora is trying to come to terms with the shameful (to her) fact that she's a Prince freak. It's possible a good therapist can assure Dora there's nothing actually wrong with that.
