This is my dog, Atticus. My dad named him. He's a great dog, really friendly and hardly barks at all. He can be a bit of a jerk sometimes. If I'm sitting reading and not paying enough attention to him he'll do things like sit next to me on the couch, fart and then get up and walk off. Mostly though he's content to lie on the sofa and get his belly scratched.

I got my wee dog with the worried face and the curly tail!

Unfortunately, she is camera-shy. Apparently hating the flash is a common trait for basenjis, and she knows exactly what I'm doing when I pull out the camera.

Also, I'm apparently incapable of adding a photo, so here's the link. http://www.flickr.com/photos/pinkgrrlygeek/5592042919/

You have rats, get a rat. Jimmy has rats. Given the opportunity they will also be sunflower eating machines, I think its a rodent thing.

Nah, I have a cat, it's bad enough trying to keep one pet in Sydney. Hamsters would just mean I spend longer in pet shops cooing over the rodents.

Is it ferret-itis?

Stig, one of the new ferrets, has been attacking the cat and it's pretty hilarious. He just jumped on Yuki's back and bit his ear. Yuki escaped pretty easily and neither was hurt. I just love how high this little guy can hop!

I used to have budgies, I love those little guys!

We can't take the ferret with us when we move :( I am quite sad.  We are giving him to my father though.  My father loves ferrets; he is who first suggested them to me as a pet when I was young.  My mother hates them, but has agreed to let him stay with them anyways.

Why can't you take your ferrets with you? Is it because your new landlord is all "no pets allowed"?

We're not allowed to have pets, in fact I'm pretty sure most rental properties in Sydney at least don't allow pets. We have them anyway because fuck the law tenancy agreement.

I have had a secret cat for nearly 5 years. It is not hard to keep secret pets. I guess it would be harder if you didn't have anyone who will babysit when inspection time comes though.

It's not so easy to have secret ferrets. At least for me, it's nearly impossible - mine dig at the carpet and poop everywhere. I have to steam clean the carpets every couple months. And then the cage I have is over 5 feet tall and 3 feet wide, and their toys are strewn all over the place.

Not everyone has those specific issues, but there's still hiding the cage and toys - it's not as easy as with a cat, where you have one small carrier and one litter box, and lots of small catnip and chase toys that can be put in a drawer somewhere.

I am curious though, is that why? I'm glad he gets to go with your dad :)

It's easier with cats that don't chew on things. My roommates' cat (the black and white one I've posted pics of) likes to chew on our blinds, so there's little bite marks on all the ones she can reach. But we're allowed to have pets and with all the crap that goes on in our building, I bet bite marks on old blinds that should really be replaced are not on their list of things to worry about.

My girlfriend and our Basenji puppy Ponyo. This was taken when he was around 3-4 months, he's 8 months now but I don't have any really good pics of him right now. He's generally a rad little dog as long as he's kept entertained and not chewing on shiz he shouldn't be.

We are allowed one cat, that is all.  It would be hard to have a secret ferret for us, particularly since we won't know anyone in the area so there would be nowhere to hide him during maintenance or whatever.

Billions and billions of photos! I don't have any of these pets anymore as I couldn't bring them to the place we're staying now. I miss them!

First, my kitty Fiver who liked sleeping and did it pretty much anywhere he could fit:

Then my kitty Hazel who had gorgeous markings:

And finally my guinea pigs Poppy (black face), Penny (copper colored), and Swee'Pea (mop). The first two are Swee'Pea as a baby and then Swee'Pea as an adult:

There's a heater under my desk keeping the room warm and the desk warmer. The cat's in a deep sleep on the desk just above the heater, dreaming. I can't help but find the regular tail and facial twitches cute. Randomly he'll cover his face with a paw and let out a soft mew. He's three years old now and hasn't changed since we first brought him home.

Last night there was an awful noise in the porch, like an orchestra of cats being massacared, but when I went out there were just two of our cats, Morag and Moritz, looking absolutely terrified. Morag has very long fur and her hackles were so far up that she looked like she'd been electrocuted, and Moritz ran inside, padded all over the tables and then jumped on top of a very high cupboard.

Then we noticed that the tables were covered in blood. Not just a little bit but lots of pools of blood. It wasn't Morag's blood, she was just terrified but not bleeding, so we figured it was Moritz but he wouldn't come down for hours. Turns out his back paws were both bleeding and his tail is also stiff with dried blood tonight.

Some time next week when my stepdad comes back from his holiday, he is going to talk to the woman who owns the tomcat who keeps beating up Moritz, because if she doesn't get him castrated by a vet I'll do it myself with a bucket and carving knife.
