I definitely am getting my doggie! I will pick her up on Sunday afternoon!
Basenji!
Yaaaaaay doggie!
Okay, so "definitely" was incorrect.
The dog was advertised as crate-trained. I need a crate-trained dog because I can't sleep in the bed with a dog; my allergies are too severe for that. Also, my landlady has the house for sale, and if the dog isn't crate-trained, then I can't shut her away on days that a realtor will come show the place.
Saturday morning I got an SMS from the dog's current foster home: "We have a crate for her but she hated it so we never used it." Well, okay, I thought...they have 3 other dogs, and no dog wants to be confined while the other three are free to roam. So I contacted the adoption agency, who contacted the previous foster home, who confirmed that she hates her crate and will try to break out of it within 4-5 hours.
Long story short, I'm totally committed to getting a dog, but it looks like it won't be
this dog. Although I met her yesterday and she is amazing - sweet and beautiful and confident. She's slimmed down since the photos I'd seen before, so she looks more like the breed-standard should, with the wrinkly face and all. If anybody wants to adopt her, let me know and I'll put you in touch with the agency; she's a really cool dog.
