Okay, so "definitely" was incorrect.

The dog was advertised as crate-trained. I need a crate-trained dog because I can't sleep in the bed with a dog; my allergies are too severe for that. Also, my landlady has the house for sale, and if the dog isn't crate-trained, then I can't shut her away on days that a realtor will come show the place.

Saturday morning I got an SMS from the dog's current foster home: "We have a crate for her but she hated it so we never used it." Well, okay, I thought...they have 3 other dogs, and no dog wants to be confined while the other three are free to roam. So I contacted the adoption agency, who contacted the previous foster home, who confirmed that she hates her crate and will try to break out of it within 4-5 hours.

Long story short, I'm totally committed to getting a dog, but it looks like it won't be this dog. Although I met her yesterday and she is amazing - sweet and beautiful and confident. She's slimmed down since the photos I'd seen before, so she looks more like the breed-standard should, with the wrinkly face and all. If anybody wants to adopt her, let me know and I'll put you in touch with the agency; she's a really cool dog.

Is there any way she could be retrained? Or perhaps a different type of crate would work? None of my dogs sleep in crates, but they do all voluntarily sleep in their own little beds.

Since I'm too lazy to take a new picture, here's an old one

On the right is Layla, our dog, and looks basically the same here as she does now. On the left is Elvis our sometimes dog who came over on weekends and stuff. Our neighbor lent him to us partially because he tended to be away alot, mostly because my brother loved him to death.

Sorry to hear about your dog troubles Edith! Allergies are such a pain.

May, it seems like she's just not a good fit for where I live right now. Someone will adopt her, she's a sweetie...just not me.

Bella had to be put to sleep this weekend. She was in too much pain for us to make her keep going.

I am now down to one ferret, Pedro. Thankfully he is a happy-go-lucky little butthead who seems perfectly capable of being alone for now. I am worried that he'll soon realize that his Bella isn't coming home and stop eating. He's certainly enjoying having his gigantic cage to himself for the moment.

Try and teach him to talk as soon as you can! Talking budgies are the best. We had budgies my entire childhood but we only ever managed to make one talk because it takes lots of time and effort.

Ah. Since it's a baby it's hard to tell but its cere (nostril area) does look pretty pink, meaning you're right and it is probably a girl. It is still possible to teach girl budgies to talk though!

yea i'm always calling it with the same 2-3 words when we're playing, i hope it learns at least one. i wouldn't mind if it doesn't though, it's a very social and loving bird, and never bites, which is nice enough. oh, also has good taste in music too, only sings along to mogwai and earth

Yeah, my cat likes licking and chewing on plastic bags. We try to discourage it cause we fear he may accidentally tear some of it and choke on it. He still does it, but he knows he's not supposed to. If he's caught licking a plastic bag he generally runs and hides under a table or couch or something for a little while.

I've never seen any cat I've owned licking bags, but right now our older cat likes to push her face into things like blankets and pillows and couches and boxes and stuff, and she drools all over them while flexing her front claws and purrs, and Apollo just likes to get inside every bag he sees.

Tiger doesn't do anything weird. She doesn't even like the catnip and real fur toys I just got her.

I would say her only odd trait is that she sits on black things. If there is a black thing in the room (jacket, backpack, plastic bag, whatever) she will sit on it.

My cat is actually kind of terrified of plastic bags for some reason. He is a total weirdo, though. He likes to lick catnip (no biting, no eating, just licking), sleep under the blankets on my bed, and sit on any clothing I will be wearing that day.
