By the way - there are several reasons why we haven't gotten her yet:

There have been issues with pet adoptions in the area in recent years, because of cases of animal abuse (sadly).
The MCHS is understaffed, and (on top of that) they area also facing huge budget cuts; they're slated to lose their funding from the county for cat sheltering in 2016.
Before we can take her home, she has to get her shots, spayed, declawed and chipped. That will take a while, too.

Clara and I had several cats declawed. Our daughter finally talked us out of it. Instead, we developed a routine: We set out scratching boards, in this case the corrugated cardboard pads, edge up, in the living room, and taught the cats to scratch before we tossed them a treat. The result is that the furniture has stayed mostly intact.

I've had no problems with my one still-clawed cat torturing any furniture. As long as he has a big scratching post and those cardboard scratching things, he's perfectly happy. My other cat was declawed (front only) before I adopted him and his toes are very obviously malformed. His front paws are much smaller than the clawed cat, they're sensitive, and he can't protect himself as well, should he come up against something bigger than him.

I am very against declawing. You're basically removing the cats finger nails. But that's all I'll say on the subject, as this isn't DISCUSS.

EDIT: We'll agree to disagree. I understand both sides of the argument. My wife actually wanted all four, and I tried to explain to her it wasn't going to happen.

Actually, it's not just the fingernails - they take the entire last joint of the finger. But yeah, not discuss.

Mine switch between slow-motion and running after each other. I like the slow battles the best. The just have their mouths open, tapping on each other, making the occasional weird sound.

When they first met, they hated each other. And they would actually do battle - while sounding like grumpy cows.

My dog has been melting in the heat the last couple days. My neighbour got a sheep and she keeps barking at it. The sheep gives no fucks, however, and was headbutting the fence at her.

She's (as most puppies are) adorable. Pictures soon-ish.

Still trying to come up with a name... so far thinking "Maya" after the Borderlands 2 character, but my boyfriend and I are terrible at coming up with names so that may win out due to us not being able to come up with anything else.

We both were, and Percy was very grumpy with me when I made him stop pawing at my hair. He likes to sleep there regardless of who else is there - he is the boy's hat every night he sleeps over.

Oh, yeah, I should have mentioned she's a she. The HSMC had a slightly bad habit of applying male-sounding names to female kitties. She's neutered now, but still a she. And she squats to pee, too. (Sadly, I know this, because she and I shared a moment in the bathroom tonight; her litterbox is in the bathroom, and I had to go at the same time she did.... That sounds like something I should be putting in the TMI thread, isn't it?)

When I had my apartment with the ex, I rarely closed the bathroom door - there was no point. And my cats often joined me, sitting in my lap or on my shoulders. It was weird.

What's TMI about my cats coming to visit me when I'm on the toilet? It's a daily occurrence. Eina, the female, looks up at me, making eye contact, and raises that beseeching paw asking for a pet. On the other hand, their litter boxes are in the basement landing and hooded, so I don't see them using it.

48-hour update:

Yesterday was a bit hectic, because she apparently caused her sutures to start bleeding. Had to take her into her new vet here in Merrill; they gave her some antibiotics and pain meds to keep the swelling down and prevent infection. We're going to have to take her back in a couple of weeks for her "checkup".

She's mellowed a bit, and gotten a bit more loving and less bitey. We also had to do some furniture moving, because she had found her way behind the wife's dresser (a long one with a mirror). Her favorite place to hide now is under our reclining loveseat, where there's enough room for her to slink under and lay under.

That red cube that's in the background of that photo I posted earlier is her favorite. She jumps into it, attacks the little ribbons on the inside and causes it to tip over.

Some cats have toilet-trained themselves after noticing what the humans do with those fixtures.

My friend's partly feral cat lay down at my feet today and flopped on his side in that relaxed "I have no safety concerns with you at all" pose.

Fuzz does the bathroom thing too......we try not to let her in there because there is a window in the shower and cleaning cat hair out of the tub is a pain in the ass....but sometimes I just can't help myself and give in.
