I've only owned a car for a couple of years, I haven't owned a car in many years (in grad school I lived in a small city so I could walk everywhere, then I lived in the biggest city so it had a subway, now I still live in a big city so I still have a train to rely on,) I have no foreseeable need for a car, and yet I've already plotted out that I will get a pickup if and when I need a car. Probably a Tacoma, since that is pretty much the smallest pickup.

Why a pickup? The ability to move stuff? You could get a station wagon (these days referred to as a crossover to be more cool) and carry most stuff while having the added benefit of more than 2 comfortable seats and not handling like a truck. Or you could probably get a new hatchback and be about the same size as an older station wagon.

I'm not a bro. Know how I know? Bros have lifted trucks and are afraid to take them on a dirt road for fear of getting the chrome muddy. I have a bone stock hatchback and take it on a road that is rougher than almost all the hiking trails I have been on.

I lived in my vehicle for a month this one time.

I slept in the trunk with my head sticking into the open back seat trunk access so the cops wouldn't see me if they walked by but I could still breath comfortably.

I just bought another vehicle! It is a little beater of a bike to get around on in the winter 'cause I don't want to expose my nice bike to the road salt and it's high-pressure road tires aren't really what you want on ice anyways.

The list of vehicles I've owned.

We start with the 1979 Chevy Suburban. Mine was solid blue and lacked the back door on the driver's side so it was a three door. The back seat was a bench that was bolted to the floor. It was either meant as work truck or it was going after the serial murder market. The gas gauge didn't work so I just put a few dollars in it every couple of days. It eventually died while I was pulling out of the driveway.

Next up is the Chevy Malibu. I don't remember what year mine. I do remember it was a dark brown which was appropriate because it was a piece of shit. It took about a mile to get up to 35 mph. On the plus side whenever I attempted to accelerate I left a smoke screen that James Bond would've envied. I kept a case of oil in the trunk for this one. Whenever I came to a stop I had to brake with my left foot so I could keep the rpms up with my right foot otherwise the car would stall. It was good training for driving a manual transmission though.

Next up was an old Ford LTD. I don't remember much about this one except that the fan would occasionally nick the radiator hose. I do not recommend finding a nick in a radiator hose on an engine that's been running awhile by using your hand. Also guzzled oil.

Next up is the first new car I bought. Continuing my trend of crappy cars I chose a Dodge Charger. Mine was silver and did not have Shelby on it like the one pictured does. I actually managed to get 99k miles on it before it went belly up. It was my first car with a manual transmission. I bought it before I knew how to drive one. It was good incentive to learn. With this car I discovered that you can drive a manual transmission car without using the clutch. I discovered this after the clutch cable broke when I was getting on the highway. A also learned that if your headliner starts falling you can put it back up with thumbtacks.

Next up was my first foreign car. A Toyota Camry (or was it Corolla? anyway it looked like the picture). I sold a car with 99k miles and bought one with over 100k miles. It made sense at the time. I had it a week before the timing chain broke. It was fixed free of charge though. I put another 40k on it I think.

Then came my next new car. A 1996 Saturn SL2. By the way buying a new car right after you mother dies is not recommended. However I was not in the mood to deal with a car salesman so Saturn's no haggle thing appealed to me. I put over 100k miles on it and until the end never really gave me any problems. I was sad to see it go.

Since I had pretty good luck with Saturn I bought another. A 2006 Saturn Ion. It has a sunroof. Do you know what happens when you put a hole in your roof? It leaks. After finding a foot of water in my car after a storm Saturn kept it for a week to let it dry out and fix it. The night I got it back there was a storm. Why, yes it did leak again. After another two days in the shop it was fixed again. I'd had the car less than a year at this point. It hasn't leaked since but I still get nervous when there's a heavy rain. I smarter man would've considered that an omen and gotten rid of it. I am not a smart man. The highlight is when, the night before my girlfriend and I were to leave on vacation, I discovered that I couldn't turn the key to the off position. Neither could I pull the key out. So I had a car that I could not shut off. Of all the car troubles I've had this was a new one. Eventually it was discovered how to shut the thing off and I got the car to the dealer in the morning. Two hours and $500 later I had the car back. This July the air-conditioner died. It will take $1000 to repair. My girlfriend pointed out the money would be better spent on a down payment for a new car.

Next up? Probably a Toyota Rav4.

Figures an Australian like you would buy a no-good Australian car.

No joke I knew someone that thought Subaru was Australian, probably because of the Outback.

Fang, you could probably sell the Saturn for at least $1000 more with working AC than without. I would suggest dumping that thing, though. Sun roofs aren't supposed to leak as long as you keep them closed, they are pretty much a window. My windows don't leak when there is blowing rain, no reason the sunroof should leak after it rains.

My car is a purple manual 1994 Honda Civic with about 203,000 miles on it.

It looks pretty much like this:

I am in general much in favor of public transportation and exercise (this is my other ride), but sometimes I am very grateful for my little old bucket of bolts.  Honda is pretty good for low-cost repairs--we've replaced the starter and the head gasket--and we get about 30 mpg (as good as the new Infinity hybrid sedan, though obviously my car doesn't have nearly the same horsepower).

I bought my very first car 2 months ago, a 2001 Saturn with only 48000 on it.

Long ago I had a bike, but when I got my drivers license I decided to, "Sell it because I will never use it again." Of course now I want to use it cause I realize I am so damn close to everything and gas costs way too much for my liking.

1st car 88 cavalier lasted maybe 50k miles before it thankfully died.

2nd car and the love of my life at the time 70 VW Bug. Mine was metallic blue and badass.

Then i got married and exwife hated the bug so i had to buy this POS. WTF was i thinking...

Finally divorced and bought what i wanted and got a 2009 versa with manual everything and have loved it since.

Oh they totally are, my dad's had one for ages.

You know what else is a great car? The Mitsubishi Lancer. My brother has one that used to belong to our mum, it must be at least fifteen years old and sure it's got a few bumps and bruises but it still goes like a rocket.
