Good morning!
« on: 07 Dec 2010, 02:13 »

Heyo.  I'm Tuen.

This'll probably get the classic intro reply amount of 1-5 comments, but I'll do an introduction anyways!

I'm a graduate student at Oregon State, I take Krav Maga, and I play Super Smash Brothers Brawl professionally.  Interesting fact: sparring in real life and playing fighting games compliment each other (in my opinion).  So that pretty much means I'm an athletic nerd.  Weird, right?

Anyways.  This comic is pretty much the greatest ever.  So I joined up.

Best Regards,

Tuen

Hey, welcome welcome.  Newbies welcoming newbies--how silly.

When I get back to the States, I'm looking to get involved in either Krav Maga or Escrita/Kali.  Nothing cooler than watching Sam Fisher or Jason Bourne kicking some ass.  I'm assuming that you're still in OR?  Where do you go to train?  Does the place you train at have any contacts with East Coast facilities where I might be able to sign up for classes?

I train here in Corvallis.  I think I'd run out of money if I had to travel.  Graduate work doesn't pay that well.  See PhD comics for some humor about that.  LoL.  What's Escrita?  Or Kali, for that matter?  Anyways, I train at an ATA facility that houses two Krav Maga instructors.  Those two are recognized by Krav Maga Worldwide and just happen to be utilizing a space generally used by ATA.  I'm not sure if they'd have any connections with east coast Krav trainers, but I'll let you know if I find anything out.

Also, hi!  And Welcome to you too I guess, heh heh.

Escrita/Kali is the Philippine martial arts... it was used for the fight sequences in all of the Jason Bourne movies and a few others.  The first is the word used more often in the Philippines, and the second seems to be more for the US.

Do you perhaps mean Eskrima?  At least, that's how I've always heard/seen it spelled.
