I know some of you make music, I've heard and enjoyed tracks by a few forumites before, JC, Pat and Khar at least. But I saw no place for sharing/shameless self promoting, thus this thread. So post some links, talk about your own and preferrably each others music as well.

I play in a doom metal outfit myself, called Hylur. We recently uploaded a track called Heed No Warning, off an EP in the making. We've gone to a studio before and been pretty dissatisfied with the result, so we chose to record our EP all live in our rehearsal space, except for the vocals. You can listen to it here; http://www.reverbnation.com/hylur

I myself am in a desert rock/jazz/funk band/musical project known as Minimal Effect. It's lo-fi since we're broke students and have almost no money for new equipment, but we've had a pretty positive response so far. Below is our youtube channel.

If you like it and the stuff we do, then feel free to join our facebook group as well.

All my musical projects with material extant are either defunct or on indefinite hiatus. At some point in the new year I hope to return to making music (probably under a new name), but the problem I'm having at the moment is that my songwriting is slipping somewhat ahead of my ability. I need to pick up the guitar again.

My projects which actually have released things:

Halo of Flies

Halo of Flies is/was my main musical project. When it started I didn't really know much about electronic music and mostly wanted to make stuff that sounded like Burzum's keyboard albums, plus some EBM influence. As it developed I picked up elements of my own style and became more influenced by early industrial music, and particularly Coil. Most (but not all) of the music was made in FL studio and Audacity, with lots of sampling from movies and computer games. I've become disillusioned with the project largely because of a) conflicts and confusions with the punk band Halo of Flies, whose existence I was not aware of when I named the project. The band/their record label and their fans have been generally complete arseholes towards me, trying to hijack my myspace account, remove my music from last.fm and so on. b) I have a clear idea in my head about what Halo of Flies should be and sound like and I'm not sure I can really do anything more with that sound and visual aesthetic. c) I lost all the material I'd been working on for the next LP, Radio Crowley, in a hard drive crash. Then I lost a load more material when my laptop got fucked. You can download the whole of the two full lengths albums from last.fm though the quality is not best:

The Blasted Heath

World War Zero

I think there's also some tracks f

Death Throes

Death Throes is a sort of deliberately offensive, noisey slightly grindy thing that I used basically as a repository for all the really overt nastiness and borderline stupidity I wanted to keep out of Halo of Flies. Unfortunately myspace deleted the best track for no reason and last.fm have lost the mp3 files as well so what is on the myspace is essentially all that remains. So it goes.

Ill Met by Moonlight

My first stab at neo-folk. Recorded one demo whilst I was at school then nothing. Enormously hampered by my almost total inability to play the guitar, flute, harmonica or drums, write conventional songs or indeed sing.

Le Morte D'Arthur

My second genred post-industrial band. This time much more slanted towards a martial industrial direction. Again released one demo and then nothing happened.

And my project is also on facebook

I used to play in a joke-y metalcore band, before that I played with an unironic metalcore band.

Now I'm singing and playing guitar for an acousticky thing - all we have right now is a myspace but we'll get music up on our page eventually.

If anyone's interested I can also throw some stuff up on MF.

EDIT: forgot a word.

I am in a band called Feeling Gravitys Pull. We play rock musics not entirely unsounding like REM, Neil Young, SKWM, Mission of Burma, et al. The EP on the site is a recording I did myself in March of last year before the actual band convened.

Everyone's making music!

Lummer, I dig the riffage on Armoured Worms. The grindy tracks don't grab me as much. You program the drums yourself, right?

Khar, Le Morte D'Arthur I had not heard before, but I like it, will listen to again. Also, you don't speak highly of Ill met..., but I still spin some tracks off the demo when I am in the mood for some bleak folk.

I though I would like Minimal Effect based on the description, but it really isn't for me.

The rest of you I still haven't listened to, working on it.

I don't remember what happened to all those old harshnoise EPs I made. They were pretty gnarly stuff, though. Droning guitar feedback and such.

And that one time Darryl made me read newspapers over them. Hilarity.

I must say, there is some good music in this thread.

allow me to remedy this terrible oversight

for a couple of weeks about a year or two ago, I started making shitty (reaaally shitty) electronic music using a god awful free program that I didn't understand. I don't know jack shit about music and I'm an idiot, so this is what happens when a tone-deaf moron with a lot of heart trys to make music:

Tyrannasaurus Flex

yes, I know i spelled tyrannosaurus wrong. that's kind of the entier point: i'm an idiot

That said, my roomate is a musical genius and me and him want to start making music but we're lazy and don't have the necessary equipment yet. maybe someday we'll put our (his) genius to tape or something but don't hold your breath

anyone know what it means when you try to add a song to iTunes and instead of saying "itunes can't import this jive bullshit for reason x" it just does...nothing?

i've never seen it do that before and i'd really like to listen to my shitty jams, if possible. it's been a while.

unfortunately, i have a bootlegged and unregistered version of sibelius, so not at the moment. when i got back to school though they have real copies that i can use to export it. ill post a better version there. ideally i'd like a mp3 of it being played on piano but i cant play it and at my schools comp recital where it was "debued" i couldn't find a good enough pianist so it was butchered. so god knows when it'll actually be played again.

I know I'm a lil' late and all, I thought I'd share some stuff. There's this, which features a crazy Reverend, and this, which doesn't. I suck at describing my own music, but it's a mix of 'real' sounds (pianos, organs etc) and electronic sounds. The first one I linked to was an experiment to see if I could pound out one chord for an entire song. It sort of does.

Primary Tones
I wrote and recorded a six-song-EP on Garageband over the summer with friends, it's like punk-literate stuff.  Like Dave Eggers meets Jets To Brazil or whatever.  It's available on bandcamp right here: http://primarytones.bandcamp.com

Fireworks For Luna
I'm also in a band with this guy who wants to be both Converge and Isis at the same time.  I wasn't able to record with them on their first release, but joined shortly afterward.  I think he wants to change the band name, as well, which I'm bummed about.  The first release is available here, though: http://myspace.com/fireworksforluna

I'm also in a math rock band that has no name and only one song so far.  So, there's that.

Yeah I mean, there's nothing wrong with sounding like a pop punk band though. There's potential in what I heard. It just doesn't sound like Isis or Converge. That's cool though, don't try to force it!

You would probably be better off being a pop-punk band because every slack-brained hipster wankstain and his haircut wants to be the next Isis/Converge/Whatever record Southern Lord sent Pitchfork to review for free last month.

calling that pop-punk does not seem to register in any way that would make some sort of sense, but neither is calling it converge/isis-esque.  C'mon, guys!

Also, does Primary Tones have two drummers and two bassists? Very Saddle Creek - 2002-ish to my ear, but I think this is the thread where everyone classifies everything poorly so maybe I am guilty as well.

Sean -- Yeahh, Fireworks For Luna formed 2 years ago, but we only played a few shows last year.  Primary Tones, however, formed last year and we haven't gotten past the practice-in-the-basement-forever mode that comes with starting a band.

Also, in regards to Fireworks For Luna: I guess I should've noted that he WANTS the music to be Isis/Convergely, but that's certainly not how it turned out.  Not that it was written to sound that way, either.  Regardless, I like how it sounds and I certainly hear the pop-punk vibe, even if I disagree with that appraisal.

And on the Primary Tones recording, I received help from a host of different musicians for different songs (including a few different bassists and drummers), but the actual core band is only a three-piece.  I've just always wanted to pretend I have an orchestra at a whim, so I do what I can to maintain a healthy delusion.  Also, being compared to 2002-era Saddle Creek is totally great -- I've got some serious love for Desaparecidos and Ugly Organ-era Cursive.

Also, checking out some of these links: Khar, I'm liking the literary-themed album titles.  I named my band, Primary Tones, after a line in the same Lovecraft story that I'm assuming you named The Blasted Heath after.  Pretty great stuff.

Actually the specific reference of the title of The Blasted Heath is Shakespeare's Macbeth, which Lovecraft makes some reference to himself in The Colour Out of Space. There's another reference to Shakespeare on the same albuim, 'The Close Contriver of All Harms', which is a description of Hecate. There is, however, a direct Lovecraft reference on World War Zero, 'A Plain Discourse of Evil Powers', which comes from the pseudo-archaic sermon against the strange noises in the hills quoted in The Dunwich Horror, and was originally going to be the first track on an EP called 'The Dunwich Horror' with the tracks named something like: A Plain Discourse of Evil Powers, None Presided at His Coming, Rhythmical Crescendos of Unholy Anticipation, The Dunwich Horror. One of my many projects that fell by the wayside.

I've been playing music off and on for a while, not really doing much recording. But I just made a demo of a folky song I'm working on for a friend, and would love to hear what people think. The recording was (very clearly once you listen) done in one take on my computer, but hopefully I'll be able to do some higher quality recordings soon, with more than just my crummy voice and a banjo.

I fee like it's popular. Maybe it's just the circles I move in but it seems everywhere I look it's Black Breath this, Trap Them that, Circle the Wagons the other.

Southern Lord definitely aren't the apex of the beardocracy anymore, though, for sure. I'm pretty sure that garland goes to Seasons of Mist these days.

Well, thanks to GarageBand, I've now joined the millions of sucky bedroom musicians who have successfully recorded themselves. I'm not going to punish your ears with my music (yet), because it's so bad even I can't listen to it. Maybe someday, but probably not for a very long time if ever.

I just felt the need to announce that I've officially joined the ranks of recorded musicians, and apparently they'll let anyone in.

But yeah, if you haven't copped the Black Breath record in the Wink Wink yet, do so. Popular with beardos? Yes. But even a hairy clock is right twice a day.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Profound Lore ends up pretty big this decade. They have been getting a lot of rising bands, along with a few with decently big names among metal circles. I've gotten three albums from them since the end of November, and there are a bunch of artists I'm interested in on it that I haven't gotten a chance to listen to much of.

Their signing Agalloch (yes, I know that they did the vinyl release of at least The Mantle) makes me kind of wonder if they are hoping to follow in the footsteps of The End. Sculptured was one of the first, if not the first, artists The End signed, and I'm pretty sure that Agalloch was a decent part of what got The End on its feet.
