Best things from Texas are ZZ Top and Omar Rodriguez Lopez.

I have no music to share. I actually have no ability to record music, I'd like to change this - is a POD necessary, or can you go straight from your amp to your pc?

I am at a loss of how to respond to your post.

Yeah, it's a Mountain Goats song. Sorry for the confusion!

Thank you, valley_parade.

Sometimes you can go straight from your amp to PC if you have the right outputs on your amp and inputs on your computer, but it's not exactly the best mode of recording.

A belligerent drunk in Edinburgh on Hogmanay. Do I get style points?

Guys we're gonna record vocals for a bitchin' new jam this morning, but it's not done. I want you to know, though, that I'm really pleased with how the song has turned out so far, and that I'm really proud of my bass work especially. I'll try to squeeze a demo of the track outta my bandmate once that's done.

Also, a new, less sloppy bass track is going onto 'Headband Dream' which I posted a week or two ago. The honors are mine, hoping it turns out well.

Also.. My band just wrapped up recording. Now it's off to mastering. Shit will be scary.

We got the premixes back now. Not allowed to share them though, but I can tell you they sound horrifying.

My band has nearly completed a bunch of the songs for the upcoming album. Unfortunately they are not all done yet. Some more noticeably so than others. Here be updated versions of the songs that we have. Sadly "Headband Dream" needed the entire chorus to be redone, but we left all the artifacts from the previous recording of the vox. It's gonna sound cool as fuck when we're done. Just gotta... get there first.

By all means, give us feedback on anything you hear!

I'm slowly making my through this thread, checking out each of your recordings. I have to say so far I'm fairly impressed. I promise I wouldn't ask you to listen to my music if I weren't willing to listen to all of yours, so I am doing that, but I thought I'd go ahead and throw up my music page so you can (hopefully) enjoy my tracks while I enjoy yours. At the moment I only have three songs up. They're acoustic tracks with a range from folk ballad to acoustic rock-ish, but all more or less acoustic singer/songwriter stuff.

Also, it's the epitome of low budget recording (a Motorola Droid with these recorded all sounds, then dumped to the laptop where I mixed it with Audacity), so I apologize for the sound quality.

Anyway, enjoy.

Rob

EDIT: Having made it through the majority of music, listening to at least a track or two from each person/group, I thought I'd give my opinions (mostly vague generalities)

Sean, I have to say the two tracks you posted are fantastic. I would love to hear them performed. I know you said the only recording you had of "As Of Right Now" got botched up pretty bad, but if you do ever get some recordings, I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that would be fantastic.

As to everyone else, I won't go into specifics on each of your work, but I can say the very good heavily outweighed the pretty good, and I can't think of any instances of bad music. Some were not to my taste, but I could still appreciate the art for what it was. This is a forum full of talented people. Hopefully this thread stays around for a while. I always love hearing about music from the people who actually make it.

i'm not sure how well this link will work or if you need to be a fan of the band on facebook to see it or not, but my band The Goddamnits played our first gig t'other week and much to our suprise, people seemed to be into our fairly sloppy pop-punk jams and my godawful singing voice.  was epic fun to play though, and they've asked us back at the same venue to headline which should be a laugh!  here's a video.

Spoon. I dig the sound, but I would have to say, especially for the style, you could probably stand to move a bit more. It looked like you were restricted by a small stage, and I know you personally were restricted by needing a mic, those things can't be helped, but I was trying to find a video of a band back home K-1 Royal from Bristol TN. I can't, but they were the shining example (IMHO) of what a pop punk band should be. They sounded incredible live and knew when to really let loose on stage. That comment was fairly pointless without actually having anything to show you though.

But seriously, the music was good, and I'm guessing a lot of your presence was a result of not having much room. At small venues though, don't be afraid to get out into the crowd or push the crowd back a little, unless the management frowns on that.

Keep posting videos though, I enjoyed that one. I look forward to seeing more.

thanks for the feedback, i have to agree, i'm still getting used to the whole singing-while-playing thing - i used to throw myself around the stage quite a bit with some of my old bands, but any bands i've been in where i've done anything more than the odd backing vocal never got outside the practice room, so it's sorta new to me.  i'll work on it though!

we actually played a gig in the same pub last night - as we were the only band on (and with no popular headliner to draw in the crowds), we had fewer amps, far more stage room, and the kinda relaxed atmosphere (read: mostly empty venue haha!) that sorta led itself to a lot of jokey stage-banter, jumping around, and general tomfoolery!  it's starting to come a bit more naturally i think, but i can't tell you how much fun it is to actually be playing live again after years of not doing so   :-D

Awesome. I know what you mean about that last part. I still don't have a band, but I've been playing acoustic at a local open mic for a little while now, and I'm starting to finally loosen up and enjoy it. I don't really like the way they mix my guitar, and I tried bringing my own amp, but then they just mix it funny too, so I kind of gave up on ever being able to hear myself play, but I still try to enjoy it, and people are starting to like it, even my originals, so I guess I'm doing something right.

I still wish I could put together a band though. Being a vocalist is probably the most fun I've ever had, and when people I've never met are singing along to the words I wrote, it's the most gratifying feeling in the world.

Anyway, so this post isn't purely nostalgic:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqu2dRwwkks

I recorded and uploaded this the day I wrote the song, so it's kind of sloppy, but so far it's still the best one I have of this song.

If you're not satisfied with the sound you hear in the monitor, tell them! It's their job and they should do it right. The mix onstage isn't SUPPOSED to be the same as it is in the mains, because the onstage mix is for making sure your shit's audible so that your singing pitch is correct. Let the folks know! Be sure to listen to them when they talk about feedback issues with the system, but don't be afraid to let 'em know you need it differently.

Oh, I'm no stranger to the idea of live sound. I've been doing this a while. It's difficult to get what you want out of some venues though. If I were playing a show, then yeah, I'd be more adamant about hearing things my way on stage, but since it's just open mic, I don't want to be "that guy" that comes to open mic and harasses the guy running it because my stuff doesn't sound perfect. That was my whole reason for buying the amp in the first place, aside from just wanting one, was so I could have a monitor, since they mix out a lot of the mids in my guitar, which I think makes it worthless as a monitor. I don't know really how it sounds in the mains, but it probably sounds alright, since most of the other acts sound fine. It's usually not too much of an issue, since I play acoustic, so I always have at least a little bit of natural sound to go off of.

But yeah, if I ever play an actual show, not open mic, I'll be more particular during sound check to get the sound that I want on stage. For open mic, it's just not that big a deal to me, as long as I can hear enough to sing on key.

Hey guys. We do experimental/post-rock music in Pakistan, http://www.6la8.com, http://www.facebook.com/6la8pk, all songs free to download at http://www.mediafire.com/6la8

I was surprised to see someone had started a post about discussing our own music, though I shouldn't be :D

We are planning to release our new album, and if anybody likes the sort of music we do, mail us at [email protected] and we'll get you a preview link. Astonishingly, you don't find much of an audience interested in our genre in Pakistan ^_^

My friends and I have a web show called A Small, Good Thing where we record local bands playing in our house and we interview them over a dinner that we make for them. So far we've got three videos up, working on the fourth one with several more scheduled. The first episode was the band I'm in. Check it out, the three episodes we have are all a bit different.

Hey Guys,

I dunno what you´d call our sound. I think of it as Rock´n Roll music :-)

I´ve only been in this Band for 2 months, so no studio recordings with me singing on them, but here is a little something recorded in our practise space with some kind of mini-recorder.

It´s a little rough around the edges...so.. yeah

Blake oddly enough I can get to your tumblr, but I cannot login here, so I cannot follow. I will check that out on my box at home. Great DIYing!

We played outside at a pub as support band to a Foo Fighters tribute band on friday night.  We weren't billed on the posters at all, and figured we'd get hounded out of the place by locals expecting nothing but Grohl-centric tunage.  Instead, we got a pretty good reaction, and people seemed really into it, including one 50-something guy who compared us to Slipknot (for reference here, we play pop-punk...)!  So yeah, here's a video of one of our songs, which has the amazingly original title of "New One." Please excuse my horrifically out of key vocals...

Though this isn't my band, my dear friend has been putting out some good metalcore or whatever you call it music and has been asking me for feedback. I love what I've heard and think it's a shame they aren't more popular, but I know very little about this genre of music. So if metal is your cup of tea, and you're willing to give advice to a fledgling band, check it out. Sorry for it being myspace, they haven't set up an easy download place outside of social networks and myspace is more accessible.

I've got another demo up... its a bit more fleshed out, but its a quick and dirty version of what I'm looking to do with it once I get my new mic set up.

And a second short demo http://thelowlyman.bandcamp.com/track/july-23
