I redid the song I posted earlier: Been So Long
Also, I uploaded a new one: To The Ones Who Persevere

I really wish I could still do real recordings. These two will probably round my demo (in addition to the three on my bandpage/facebook) whenever I am able to record again

Hi all.

Well, finally the person mixing our stuff got it done, and we've now decided to put up two tracks from our recording session. The band's name is Hexis, and we'll be touring Europe soon.

Enjoy (or don't).

Got any plans to stop off in Southwest Germany? If so, you should let me know. I'd try to come out and see you.

Yeah, even the closest of those is several hours away from me, unfortunately. It's been a while since I've been to a good show. I don't know, maybe I'll make a trip out of it.

Göttingen is only three and a half hours, but I have to work that night, unfortunately. It would normally have been my day off too, but I had to switch shifts. The next closest is probably Chemnitz at like 5 hours, so I don't know. It would be a good excuse to get out of town. I'm only in Europe for a limited time. I need to get out and see it while I'm here.

Having listened to a fuckload of Kid Dynamite, it occurred to me and my bandmates that it'd be fun to write one of those 20 second melodic hardcore songs that gets in, punches you in the nuts/ovaries (we're an equal opportunities band!) and gets out before you really know what's happened.  After all, why write a 4 minute song people will play once, when you can write a short one devoid of repetition that'll make people reach for the repeat button.

I don't know that we've actually been successful in this instance, and frankly given the rough recording quality (blackberry phone laid on the floor in the middle of the practice room, set to record video) it's fairly hard to tell, but you can just about hear the gist of it.

I present to you, "D.F.N." (a.k.a. "Dirty Filthy Nonce"), a song written about a teacher from our old school who was found with 8000 indecent photographs of children on his harddrive.

ENJOY!!!

My first EP, such as it is: http://canyonhands.bandcamp.com/album/their-copy-hearts-beat-at-their-chests

It's two old songs slightly reworked and three new ones, just shy of 30 minutes in length and inspired by reading the absolutely terrifying novel "There is no Year" by Blake Butler.

Hey KMKZAMBULANCIA I am kind of digging this. The recording's a little crisp. But that works for this.

In other news I have just about 8 million shows booked.

Injun Magic has a show tomorrow night; a recording of it will be available as soon as possible! It'll likely be split into individual mp3s for each song. I'll post here as soon as I have it!

i really like that, Chad - the instrumental parts reminded me of the "calm before the storm" parts in 90s screamo songs, really atmospheric.  your vocalist has a pretty distinctive voice too, she reminds me of someone, though i can't think who...

Thanks.  We definitely have some 90's emo influences from bands like Sunny Day Real Estate and Mineral.  We normally hear our singer sounds a little like Natalie Merchant crossed with Beth Orton, which I think is a fairly apt comparison.

I checked out the Godamnits.  I liked it.  It reminds me of some of the Fat Wreck bands like Lagwagon and No Use For A Name.  Very cool stuff.

This isn't the recording of Injun Magic's show at all, but instead it's a recording that my buddy made at the open mic at the bar last Wednesday. We still don't have all these songs down, but we're getting there! I'm on drums.

EDIT oh yeah I should probably give you the link

Here is a video of my band The Goddamnits covering Dear Landlord's "Three to the Beach."

This is at a gig in Norwich the other night.  It was a good laugh, although we didn't soundcheck and the levels were a bit wonky all night (and I didn't help matters by being almost allergic to singing in key for most of our set  :S ).  Still, it doesn't sound the worst ever.  If you listen through headphones it sounds okay (I think at this point in the set we hadn't realised that the guitar and bass amps needed turning up a LOT).

@Chad, I will, thanks man! I'm still a hair uncomfortable about overall quality, there's still mic pop everywhere, but we'll get that sorted in future recordings.

@Dan, that video sounds pretty damn alright to me. I dig the hell out of it.

Thanks man!  We've got a few new original songs, one in particular that I really wanna get a decent recording of (we are in talks with a mate a coupla hours' drive away who might be recording us soon though!), so hopefully there'll be more up soon, even if it's literally just a video recording from band practice.

Just listening to the Injun Magic tracks - really liking them, you guys sound like a chilled out Braid, awesome night-time music (as I type this, it's dark and pissing it down with rain here).  I'm repping your bad selves on facebook now, you got any more recordings other than these two?

Sorry for the late reply, Dan. I appreciate the reppin' and the kind words! We've got other recordings, but they're either unfinished or in post-production. The problem with the latter being that the guy we had doing it managed to get his computer stolen. Fuuuuuk.

Fortunately we still have all the raw tracks, and we're still waiting on that live recording (we might even release the damn thing as a live album) but I still have yet to hear from the guy who recorded it.

We're going into a proper studio omfg on 5 November (we'll remember to burn something in effigy, of course) and we'll get some older stuff recorded as well as some newer things we've been working on. Got a new song we're working out called "Slacker's Jaw" which I'm really excited about.

me too!  i converted the other guys to dear landlord with the sole purpose of covering that!  thankfully, they're all about anything with a bit of gang vocal action, so they were up for it immediately.

and yeah, that's a the new squier vintage jag.  thanks to delivery problems from the site i ordered it from, it arrived the day of the gig and i spent the preceeding hours frantically trying to break it in a bit (did manage to bargain a fairly hefty discount for my troubles though!).

it sounds great and plays really nicely - i'd been put off squiers by my first bass (affinity p-bass), but having been told by a couple of reliable sources that squier basses are often better than the mexican fender ones (which are usually most people's first port of call when they see the price of the american fender models) and cheaper to boot, i tried one out and loved it.

Yeah, I'm heavily debating getting either the new Mustang bass or one of the vintage modified P-Basses. Gooood shit.

I bought my first acoustic guitar from a friend the other day; should be a nice challenge as in the past, whenever I've played guitar rather than bass, I've relied on distortion to cover for my general sloppiness.  Also, I suck at any chords that aren't power chords.  And to top it all off, I have a sore throat.  So logically, I figured I'd try and cover a hardcore punk song all acoustically an' ting.  Here's my take on Paint It Black's "Memorial Day."  Turns out it's kinda hard to make up vocal melodies for the shoutier bits.  Fun though, and I feel like it didn't turn out too bad.

So, my doom metal outfit, Hylur, did a show last month. We played a new song, and someone got decent video/sound of it;

If you like it there are two more tracks on youtube from the same show. I'm the guitarist on your left.

Friday: Athens GA at Terrapin Beer Co. Glad it has cooled down enough for us to play this in the brewery. I really don't like the outdoor show option.
Saturday: Asheville NC at Rootbar #1.
And that is it for 2011's 49 illicitizen shows.

Well, your bands fb page said you'd be here in May. And yeah, the EP is excellent.

My band, the Riveras, has finally finished it's first full length entitled "Some People Like Poetry."  We're blissfully happy with it.  Here's the first track we've posted off it, called "Passages"-
