I like it, very very dirty and the bass line/riff is especially awesome

I did this whole thing on my iPhone.

Not my cleanest playing ever but I'm impressed a phone mic and onboard software can help me create a passable demo, it's seriously blowing my mind.

Weird sort of dissonant electric folk track my dad and I put together on guitars. Basically fully improvised and recorded in one day.
Fuck yeah, it's a little rough, but we were breaking fingers doing it.

Not mine, it's a fratellis cover. First time making a video. I fucked up the last chorus, oops. Freudian narcissism slip there.

I did another couple of covers. They're posted to my Facebook wall, sorry for the external links folks.

First up: "Let's Get Lost" by Elliott Smith

Next is "Close Your Eyes" by James Taylor

I, uuh, I did a thing. I've been listening to a shitton of Steve Reich and other minimalist stuff these days, so I ended doing something that kind of sounds like "Thirst Watcher"-Gridlink trying to be Explosions In The Sky trying to be Steve Reich. I guess.

This kind of thread always makes me think of a pageant thing contest...
"I post here but I don't read, I just want new listeners.
-well thank you, I'll say your music is best because I want you to listen to what I made too.
-Hey there, have you heard of me? I'm so cool!"
It's basically like highscool over and over.

But anyway I'l post what I do, and maybe, maybe, there someone who will enjoy it and make me think again making music for someone else is not pointless. This someone doesn't have to post back.

(I'm not saying that people here are not honestly wanting to share and listen to other thing - I'm just bitter-tempered because I lived the myspace aera...)

Well ranting won't make a link more worthy, so here it is:

After watching the leftovers I was a little inspired so I re-arranged it added some strings and this is what came out.    Love feedback.

In other news, anyone who has ever liked my stuff, prepare yourselves for a melancholy tune inspired partly by early Elliott Smith and partly by Tame Impala, with some of my signature crying slide guitar thrown in for good measure. Just so you know it's still me, I guess.

It's a work in progress though, so this post exists solely as a cocktease.

"Oh man, people who just have a few posts and then come in here and want people to check their music out are so lame. Anyway, I only have 5 posts but check out my music"
The double standard is strong with this one. So what if people want others to check out the stuff that they or their band create? Noone is forcing anyone to click any links here. It is all voluntary. Popping into a thread just to bitch about the basic idea behind the thread itself just seems way more attentionwhore'ish and selfcentered than anything you're accusing anyone else of.

So guys, I know some of you have followed my band Troubador. Well, I just quit. I've been unsatisfied with our lack of discipline, our lack of ability to find any time for the band, and just the whole experience isn't worth it anymore

I'm glad that you're taking your music to those that will appreciate it more, Pat. That Troubador album was amongst my top 10 favourite albums.

You and I need to get on board with some sort of international collaboration. You know, like that band thing we were going to do  :emotrex:

In the meantime, I recently purchased a badass new acoustic. Today I finally managed to get my recording gear out.

What came out is a cover of Gareth's song Warm Suburban Autumns. Very little mixing, no effects added, done in one take for each part (staying true to the original author :P )
(click to show/hide)

Enjoy.

SO DON'T DO THAT SHIT

I haven't listened to this yet, because I was asleep and now I'm at work. Going to see if I can get a soundcloud link to play on a work computer now...

So I've now listened to it and uh... I really shouldn't love a version of one of my own songs so much... but it actually brought a tear to my eye to hear Luke doing this.

I mean Luke knows I know he's covered one of my other songs before, which was 'Slip Underneath,' a pissed off song about my divorce, but that was pretty much a straight piano cover of it - not that that's a bad thing at all.

I feel like Luke's really put his own stamp on this song, and in some ways I think improved it; my version was always meant to be a love song/murder ballad where the lyrics subvert the song's tone, and Luke's version is a lot more wistful and relaxed than either of my versions. The backing vocals really add a catchy element to it.

In short, I fucking love it. Thanks Luke!

Anytime, Gaz. It's always been my favourite song of yours and I'm glad you think I did it justice :)

This is the thead where share and talk about our own music

So upon further discussion and reflection I have realized it wasn't Matt that was the weak link, it was Paul. Great man, but he wasn't excited to be in a band, and Matt naturally fed off it. And ultimately it got to me too.

We started working with a truly brilliant new drummer named Will, and although it's 2/3 of Troubador, we won't be playing those songs anymore. New material now, there'll be a new name too.

I'm excited to say I'm back in business, and there'll be songs of my own in this new project.

Not to advocate wiping out the memory of Troubador completely, but is it worth pointing out that your sig still says that it includes you?

I love bands with two distinct writers. It's one of my favourite things about the band dynamic. Even as early as in my first metal band, I felt that the friendly competition ('I'm going to write a song that'll beat the shit out of your song') really adds an edge to the proceedings and brings out the best in you both. In my duo with my best friend Thom, it's even better because we both sing, so we have our distinctive voices that both fit, albeit completely differently, into our material.

I haven't changed it because I don't care about my sig enough to hey it's raining outside!

That's a damn shame that you're not playing any of those songs anymore. West Texas is perfection.

Still, excited to hear you're back in business :P
