Just so you guys know, that M83 is a pretty terrible web-rip transcode. It's listenable but nowhere close to a CD rip.

My first post!

Buke and Gass - Riposte 2010

Code: [Select]
http://www.m/f.com/?e2zhsba682my58d
Pitchfork:
Some of what makes Buke and Gass so unique is borne of need-- a need to sound like a full band despite having only two members; a need for singer Arone Dyer to find a physically comfortable instrument to play that won't aggravate her carpal tunnel syndrome. Yet the Brooklyn duo's approach to music making goes far beyond simply finding solutions to these problems. Dyer plays a modified baritone ukulele (the "buke" in the group's name) that, yes, is smaller than a guitar, but her cohort, Aron Sanchez, also plays a bastardized instrument (the "gass," Sanchez's own Frankenstein melding of guitar and bass) for no other obvious reason than the fact that he can. Percussion is taken care of by drums and bells operated by the pair's feet, yet Buke and Gass purposefully abstain from utilizing prerecorded loops.

As you might imagine, all this ingenuity and rule-breaking engenders a noise that's quirky and bracing, and those are the hallmarks of Buke and Gass' debut album, Riposte. Dyer and Sanchez feed their respective buke and gass through amps and pedals, creating a buzzing, springy sound that brims with kinetic restlessness. Meanwhile, the foot-propelled percussion monolithically thwacks away, lending the duo's music an austerity that belies its post-punk roots (groups like the Ex, Swell Maps, and Theoretical Girls are some of the main spiritual godfathers here). Dyer's voice easily gets swept up in this nervy momentum, her girlish yelps often evoking Karen O. So twitchy and bursting with ideas are Buke and Gass that their songs have a tendency to jump abruptly from one passage to the next without ever finding resolution or an anchor, and it causes a measurable chunk of Riposte's middle to blend together into something indistinguishable and a little wearying.

When Buke and Gass manage to focus their energy, however, the results are positively arresting. Standouts are several, starting with the opening "Medulla Oblongata", with its evocative lyrics and Dyer's breathless repetition of the words "danger doctor" (the album's strident, clinical lyrics are occasionally clumsy but actually suit the music well). Other highlights include the hypnotic, circular repetitions of "Sleep Gets Your Ghost", the fervent, psychosexual "Bundletuck" ("These days you wake up in a bundle of orgasm"), and the winking "Outt!" ("Everybody here is out to get you"). Dyer and Sanchez are the sort of artists who will continue to challenge themselves at every turn. As long as they can keep that boundless creativity from going in a million different directions at once, their listeners will reap plenty of rewards.

This is amazing!

When I uploaded Relax, I didn't realized that for some reason, "Selena" cuts off about a minute before the end. So here's a link to the full song if you already downloaded it. If not, I'll be fixing the first post with a new zip with the full song as soon as it's done uploading.

Zs - New Slaves Part II: Essence Implosion! [The Social Registry; 2011]

Quote from: Pitchfork Media
Zs are better suited to remixing than a lot of avant-rock bands because their compositions feel less like songs that need to be carefully picked apart and reassembled than raw chunks of sound ready to be manhandled in new ways. And I mean often literally raw chunks of sound. Unlike many of their once ultra-skronky underground peers who've since smartened up their sound, Zs music has grown expansive while retaining its harder-than-the-rest harshness.

Zs' play no wave with most of the remaining rock dynamited away, avant-classical delivered with noise-punk's fuck-you-all force, drone with a rusty eardrum-slicing edge. Even the calm moments of Zs' albums are more eye-of-the-storm than actual respites. So what's surprising about these remixes, jumping off from 2010's New Slaves, the band's most varied album yet, is how many of them reshape Zs' gales of blare into music that might appeal to those who look for more music in their music.

Not to say it's all suddenly accessible. Weasel Walter's typically skin-peeling screech and blat sounds like he's once again unleashed the free jazz hounds of hell. Thee Majesty's take on "Concert Black" is like an old computer on its last legs, motor whining on and off as it hacks up pitiful little data-farts. Of course that's what you'd expect from a Zs' remix album, which doesn't make it any less enjoyable. If you're buying New Slaves Part II, you're probably wanting a little horribleness in your day. But more than one of these remixers take a more beautiful (like Ecstatic Sunshine's slow-burning, almost Tortoise-ish post-rock guitar treatment) or beat-centric approach, sometimes straying into outright dance music.

Ragged rhythms occasionally surface in Zs' music, like the claustrophobic scrapyard gamelan on the original "Acres of Skin" from New Slaves, but their music wouldn't fit even the broadest definition of "house." The comforting, body-friendly pulse of pop is always under attack in Zs' world, always ready to shatter into arrhythmia. Yet here's Gabe Andruzzi fashioning the textural elements (always a Zs' strong suit) of "Acres" into a humid techno track more Tresor club hit than No New York. These total overhauls won't give newbies much of a sense of what Zs' are all about, but then are remix comps ever really for newbies? For those who've found joy in the pain of Zs' forbidding industrial sprawl, consider the more radical rewrites on New Slaves Part II a little peek into what a more traditionally pleasure-centric, alternate-universe version of the band might be like.

Rules:

The first rule of this thread is you do not mention MF.  I am doing this because we are currently the first hit for the full version of "MF thread" on Google, so y'know, that's bad n' shit.

The second rule is don't talk about the MF thread.

No hot-linking images or albums. You can re-host images at http://imageshack.us.

Ensure your tags are correct and that you have specified both Artist/Album in your post.

Upload your files in either a .zip or a .rar archive to MF, in multiple parts if the album is over 200mb. The reason for this is that we know MF is safe and efficient and allows multiple downloads. The ads on other sites, such as Sendspace, are known to contain viruses on the page. Get yourself checked out.

Post your link using code tags. It's the # icon above the policeman emoticon. This prevents the links from being traced back to the forums, lowering the chance that the wrong people notice the thread, potentially threatening Jeph with legal action.

Also, please do NOT request albums. This includes requests for re-uploads; if you miss it, try looking for it somewhere else.

Repost the rules at the top of each new page

Mux Mool - Just Saying Is All

Great EP. Worth checking out.

Code: [Select]
http://www.m/f.com/?nmttxnlhujw
Quote
A cross-genre selection of electronics from Mux Mool, shifting between the mock Italo disco of 'End Guy' (which, it has to be said, has a whiff of 'The Final Countdown' about it) to the brash, vocoded big-beat of 'Merlinfist!' without batting an eyelid. Better yet is 'Eagle Fantasies' which slips into a hip hop production that's very much of the Dabrye One/Three school, but restless as ever disco and house influences start to take over again for 'B'Genius' and '2muxLUV'. Finally, 'Teal Trim' might well supply the finest moment on the EP, though it's buried as a kind of miniature bonus beat, tucked away after several minutes of silence following the main track. This added on extra is a blissful bitcrushed boom-bap riff that really could have done with a prominent place on the tracklist.

Whiskerman S/T (2011)

Code: [Select]
http://www.M/F.com/?kwck719ud2yn5dc
Actually kind of shameful how long i've lurked this thread w/out posting. This is the debut full length from Whiskerman, who have pretty aptly described themselves as  "a Frankenstein fusion of a simple folk backbone, rich classical core, wide-streching art-rock limbs and big jazz feet." It's bluesy ghostfolk. The band's front man has at live shows been known to play trumpet and piano at the same time, and the album's got a really rich cast, comprised of probably flat-broke but really very talented multi-instrumentalists. This is some of the best music coming out of Oakland, CA.

Great EP. Worth checking out.[/size]

This added on extra is a blissful bitcrushed boom-bap riff that really could have done with a prominent place on the tracklist.
this is decent but it's absurdly quiet compared to the rest of my music

Also hey my dad bought the remastered box set thingy of pink floyd studio albums. Anyone want me to upload a particular album and/or the whole thing maybe?

I'll even scan the floppy art booklet that came with it if you're a real pink floyd nerd.

Yes, please!  If it's not too much to ask I would like Dark Side of the Moon (my digital copy is shitty) and Wish You Were Here.  Also, is Ummagumma part of that box set as well?

There are three Pink Floyd albums to be found here (including DSOTM and Wish You Were Here), decoded from their original SQ matrix into modern surround formats.

LAUREL HALO - HOUR LOGIC EP (2011)

Ever since she first pinged our radar last year, we've been following Laurel Halo with interest, but nothing could've prepared us for the clock-melting brilliance of this new EP for Hippos In Tanks. It's the kind of record that defies easy categorisation, but suffice to say Laurel has honed and expanded her sound into a kind of dizzying psychedelic techno that we just can't get enough of. 'Aquifer' sets the heady tone - beginning with Moomin tones that'd make both Scratcha and Conrad Schnitzler proud, it builds into a surging 4/4 stepper, decorated with cascading strings and opalescent synths in a distinct Rhythim Is Rhythim style. On 'Constant Index', her vocals come to the fore, albeit layered into vast washes of wordless ambient harmony; it sounds like This Mortal Coil reconfigured for the 21st century, just gorgeous. On the dubbier, more minimal 'Head' there are even shades of Basic Channel, while Speed Of Rain uses a future-garage chassis - with clipped junglist breaks hanging off it - to scale true cosmic heights. 'Strength In Free Space' is expansive, new age-inflected drift music but positively dwarfs most of her peers' work with its extravagant, cathedral-like architecture, and the masterful title track still has us tingling. With so many contemporary US synth artists sounding like dull facsimiles of each other, Laurel Halo has actually developed her own uniquely sensuous yet uncompromising sonic identity, one which you can't predict from one moment to the next, and which looks boldly towards the future. Hats off.

Ahhhh thank you so much!  I've only gotten around to listening to DSotM so far but it sounded excellent.  Thanks again, man.
