« on: 11 Jan 2011, 21:27 »

HELP HELP!!! I'VE WATCHED ALL THE ANIMES I KNOW!!!!! :-o

No but really i've eaten animes daily maybe too fast but hell i like it. But now i just finished Samurai Champloo and i dont know what to watch now so help me pretty please???  :-D

I am 21 years old so stuff about little kids and what not, no thanks. I prefer more mature stuff.

Lately i have watched High School Of The Dead i liked it cuz i like girls and zambies!

I also in the same time watched Samurai Girls something was okay... but not great.

When i started to watch anime is when i looked at Code Geass pretty Epic, then Cowboy Bepop, Elfen Lied, Ergo Prox (pretty epic too), Hellsing, Death Note. I love them all Oh forgot to mention Bleach too.
But Stuff like Naruto i hate.

I hope that can help people to give me some recommendations

Seirei no Moribito

One of the best artistic and cinematic animes.

It plays like a Japanese tale and is, in fact, based on a series of novels.

I know nothing about Anime but I know the Trigun series is pretty well respected.  I also just started watching Miyazaki's stuff which is pretty cool, too, and very beautiful.  Maybe not in the "mature" vein but enjoyable for anyone of any age.

Ew, K-ON! was pretty lacking in terms of plot for me. Also, agreed very much with Noir and Akira - Akira was a pretty amazing film. And I adore Miyazaki.

I'd always recommend Baccano! - mobsters, mysticism, and general free spirited life at the heart of it, with a late 1920s/1930s jazz influence. It's just completely confusing as hell.
Another anime - Durarara! was made by the same company, set in modern Japan, but it's slower paced, but more creepy and with fleshier, darker characters. Those are two anime I recommend to everyone.

-----

For your tastes?

I also might recommend Blood+, which is a nice supernatural anime with lots of twists.

CANNAN is an action-filled assasin based anime, interestingly set in Shanghai. Quite nice.

If you also enjoy some mech-based things, try Neon Genesis Evangelion. Incredible characters, incredibly messed up. I'd also recommend RahXephon, which is very Evangelion if the writer hadn't been severely depressed or lacking at funds at some points - less artistic, probably, but still great.

Also, if you're going to watch Mech-based things, you might as well watch Eureka 7 and Full Metal Panic!. My favourite sci-fi anime as a whole is still Ergo Proxy, so I can't help you there.

Darker Than Black is apparently quite good, although I haven't watched it myself to say whether it's cheesy or not.

My favorite anime movies and shows have to be Paprika, Trigun, Miyazaki's stuff (especially Howl's Moving Castle), Mushi-Shi, and a couple of others I can't think of right now.

Def. watch the Ghost in the Shell series and movies. Everytime I watch the series I come really close to getting one of the resin replica guns of the rifle Motoko uses. then I convince myself that would be stupid and a watse of money.

the series is definitely superior to the movies, in my opinion (particularly to the second movie, which i thought was pretty shit actually)

totally still worth watch though; there are certain things that they obviously couldn't get away with in the show that really make the first movie stand out

You mean GITS Innocence, or Solid State Society?

I guess it doesn't really matter, they both kinda suck in comparison to the series.

I'm surprised nobody has suggested Fullmetal Alchemist yet. There's the first series and Brotherhood which kinda tells the same story but Brotherhood sticks closer to the manga. A little off the beaten path is Samurai 7. It's a steampunk retelling of the classic seven ronin/Magnificent Seven story with a bit of a spaghetti western feel.

As a rule of thumb, most things by Production I.G, Kyoto and Gainax will be pretty fun to watch.

Madhouse and Sunrise also have some neat titles but some are (personally) hit-and-miss.

Full Metal Alchemist was the only Anime series I ever really got into. People say the new Brotherhood series/reboot is good too, but I've not seen it.

I liked the first series of Bleach but it went downhill into typical "me have bigger sword I win" "ha, me have secret power, boom I win" crap.

Evangeleon was fun in a "what the hell am I watching" kind of way.

i watched the FMA serie i am not sure if i'll get into brotherhood since its the same story again. They are a couple of side story i dont know about them is it good?

Also for the bleach i have to agree, too much talk so we barely see the actual fight ( exemple: all the shit happening with Aizen nothing is really going on to much blablabla.) And also all the god dam fillers are killing me!

I really, really could not get into Brotherhood at all.  I loved the original series and the idea that they were going to redo it and stick to the manga's storyline made me really excited.

But they treated it like you had already seen the original and didn't introduce any of the characters properly and rushed through about as much as they could.  Plus they threw in SO much of that super-deformed stuff where they should and could have had some really emotional scenes.  It was very lazy of them to do and after about 20 episodes I gave up.

As far as retelling a story goes, I think that the reboot of Evangelion is quite fantastical.  The first episode, 1.0 You Are (NOT) Alone was unbelievably good, it's everything Eva with a lot of whining cut out of it.  Episode 2.0 You Can (NOT) Advance was....inconsistent.  There were a lot of parts where my friends and I were scratching our heads and going "what the heck? Are we watching Eva or a harem anime?"  But then it shows off the fact that it is Eva....and it's wonderful.  So you should definitely check them out.

And as far as an animated kids show goes...a large chunk of it's audience were college students.  It's amazing, it truly is.  And don't let the awful live-action movie turn you off from watching it because you would missing out on something that's better than almost anything else cartoon that's out there.
