I kept looking at it and looking at it and I kept thinking, "That's GOTTA be an 'X' intentionally."

I think it's the E next to it that makes the K look like an X

that is debatably an x :P (no really, its a K)

i actually extracted the picture to read what the sign said (in hindsight why didnt i just use the browser's zoom?) only to find out jeph posted it below the comic >.<

i like hanners in the hat, but i cant determine why.....

[BS]

next comic:    marten goes into vladek'ss and has an emotional breakdown to hanners (who is freaking out because the place is filthy), then after vladek with his wise yet mindlessly violent kickassery advice get him to go over to COD and in a total out of character outburst demand there be no more awkwardness

THEN EVERYBODY FUCKS

THE END
[/BS]

goddamnit...i cant formulate a sensible continuation to the scenario of marten finding another shop
maybe he does and some sassy coffeeshop girl sweeps him off his feet?  :-P (not even mentioning the problems that would cause :>)

Really, it's a question of whether Jeph wants to make changes to his active cast, or just to stir up the relationships of the existing cast.  The second seems more likely to me.

I couldn't read it in the comic. Thanx for posting it on the bottom.

He needs to never go in there again. If it were the real world!

But it sure would make the comic alot more interesting,
and give opportunity for alot of one liners if it's the only place he can stomach!

Or even better still - he should open his own coffee shop with Hannelore and his big-chested roommate...
and be in direct competition with his ex!

There is always the option to make coffee at home rather than spend $ for the flavoured water.

Just throwing that out there as an option, it might seem radical, but it is an idea.  After all there is no "Tim Horton's" option.

Two points.

One....Winslow is the racist one in the comic, in fact, in the words of Vladek... "You want proof? I give you proof. Maybe I get you punch in face."

Two.... Would you trust Pintsize to make you coffee? Go on, think about it. I can wait..... See? No wonder Marten would never let an AnthtoPC make his coffee for him.

I can totally identify with their slogan after my stint as a barista. At least I didn't work at Starbucks.

I tend to prefer coffehouses with too many hippies.

It's hit or miss for me...too few hippies can be just as irritating as too many when it comes to coffee houses.

I got a nice one that I go to that's literally 2 doors down from a Starbucks. Run by a friend of a friend of a friend. Neat little place. Live music on occasion. Good mix of people...

They sell coffee (and baked goods, and ice cream in the summer).

...they don't try to be activists like the one down the street one way, nor cater to some clique like the hipster house the other way.

I'm kinda like Marten...if my place ever goes out of business, I'm screwed.  :psyduck:

Isn't there a general consensus in the QC world that AnthroPCs can be more trouble than they're worth? Didn't Ellen say that people can't work with the AnthroPCs at SMIF because they will mock the students trying to study? Not to mention the parties Pintsize has thrown throughout the run. Or what about the AnthroPC at the city morgue taking a severed head to "cheer up" cancer patients?

Forget maliciousness, would you want an AI that was, at best, mischievious serving you coffee?

But yeah, it was a poorly timed and sad attempt at humor from a guy who's wayyy  off his game.  No harm, no foul, just a moment of awkward.

This.

And Steak+Waffles=Staffles?

Staffel IS a German word (good call!) - it means (approximately) a squadron of Luftwaffe fighters.

For many people, in many social circles, never seeing or talking to your ex again is a common result of a breakup. Common enough in that it's unusual when it doesn't happen. And remember, Marten is NOT friends with any of his other exes. He doesn't see or talk to Vicki, for example, and he's fine with that. It may be different in your social circle, but that's your social circle.

I think Marten should just go to Coffee of Doom ironically

This isn't a bad idea. I mean, if that really was Marten's explanation when Dora asked him what the hell he was doing there, she'd probably be suddenly really glad they broke up and the tension would be significantly reduced.

Which one should Marten choose?

Starbucks    - 2 (3.1%)
LanPark Cafe    - 2 (3.1%)
Vladek's Beverage Emporium    - 16 (25%)
Haymarket Cafe    - 1 (1.6%)
Woodstar Cafe    - 0 (0%)
Green Street Cafe    - 2 (3.1%)
Northampton Cafe    - 0 (0%)
Cafe Evolution    - 1 (1.6%)
Amanouz Cafe    - 0 (0%)
Side Street Cafe    - 0 (0%)
Joe's Cafe Spaghetti and Pizza House    - 4 (6.3%)
(NOTE: the previous eight in the list above are actual coffee houses in Northampton, Massachusetts. The more you know...)

...Geez, maybe Coffee of Doom is the only option?    - 15 (23.4%)
Waffle House. They have better coffee.    - 21 (32.8%)

I was wondering why it wasn't called LANPERK, if it's a coffeehouse.  .

never google mapped northampton before, but it doesnt look like much on maps/satallite   doesnt have streetview sadly

as a person from a country (holland) with very precise and strict city planning, do all small american towns have a layout like this?

i cant make heads or tails of what 'downtown' is here, its shops and houses mixed all over the place ;o  plus it kinda looks like a dump from space

A lot of smaller US towns do tend to kind of be a jumble, yeah. American urban planning is nowhere near as strict.

I think Marten should just go to Coffee of Doom ironically

If he does that he really should just take the plunge and go in there with huge douchebag aviators and the $5,000 Moustache Rides shirt on. Possibly he should pull up to the place on a fixie, too.

Having just moved moved half-way across the country after having gone to the same perfect indie coffee house for seven years run by a friend (where I also used to work), I am now in Marten's position of having to find a new one. It is no easy task. Finding the perfect place is struggle mythic proportions.

And I find it particularly amusing that Vladek's House of Pain and Coffee is right next to a yoga studio.

Over here in Germany (which is basically next door to you) we have plenty of cities with what they call "radial streets", ie streets leading away from a church, marketplace etc. in every direction you can imagine, because most cities are pretty old and were founded in the middle ages. Don't you have such cities?  :?

Remember, America didn't have a "middle ages" like us in Europe.  The reason tourists from over there are so "ooh! aah!" in European cities is that they really haven't  seen stuff that old before.

Is it possible that there is a cute blond chick in NoHo who's crazier than Hannelore?

We must know more about fairy princess costume chick!!!
