The spiral kneading machine definitely would - big, heavy duty electric motor (some of 'em run on 220 current), and an older under-maintained one with cracking insulation on the wires is ripe for overheating.  Give it a little splash of oil or butter by accident, and voila!  Instant disaster!
"220 current"? Is that USAnian for three-phase electric power or something? Most of the world uses 200-240V mains power just to run its toasters, kettles etc.

He's referring to the voltage.  US and I think most North American countries run the 110V, and most of Europe rolls with the 220V.

That's right.

"Standard" US two and three prong outlets run off 110v.

The heavy-duty stuff, the higher voltage items (like dryers and things) run off an entirely differently shaped plug, like this-

Actually its 120V 60Hz and 240V(two phases, two 120V lines and a ground) 60Hz, while Europe mostly uses 220V 50Hz.

The actual delivered power varies some due to losses, but if you actually put a multimeter on a US outlet it SHOULD read around 115-125V.

Actually, the term "220v" and "240v" in terms of outlet are used interchangeably- which is why the government itself refers to that style of plug as a "220v" outlet. The reason for this is because the power company's power can differ as much as 10% (but not more than that), so for a 220v/240v outlet the amount supplied can range BETWEEN that...

Basically there are so many different plugs and voltages around because of fighting and blatant disregard of what other countries were doing.

Even within the US, it took a little while for electrical current to be standardized - the original generators at Niagra Falls (in the 1890's) provided DC current...

Actually, the term "220v" and "240v" in terms of outlet are used interchangeably

As part of the moves towards the integration of Britain with Europe, the European standard voltage of 220V and the British 240V standard were "harmonised" by redefining them both as 230V +10%,-6%.  This enabled the generating companies to continue without changing any of their equipment or settings at all.  Last weekend, when I was doing some checks in the computer room at work, the voltage was standing at 253V; it rose briefly to 254V, and a couple of UPSs turned on their over-voltage indicators.

I was referring to the US 220v standard, not the Euro one.

The European standard does make far more sense though. Why did they set the standard so low for us here in the States?

Edison chose 110V to suit the carbon light bulbs he'd developed, and it was used initially everywhere.  In 1899, a company in Berlin decided to double the voltage in order to halve the current and thus double the capacity of their cabling (or halve the cost of it), and this change became standard in Europe (and the more durable tungsten light bulbs were developed at about this time).

Three-phase high-power supplies are used industrially in Europe, with a voltage of 415V; this is not the same as the US 220V power which is just bridging across two phases (there is no European equivalent of this practice).

So is Pintsize 110, 220 or batteries? How about Winslow? Momo? (actually, since Winslow is an Apple and Momo a Sony, neither are likely compatible with anything.)

I would imagine they all have high density rechargeable batteries, that plug into standard household 110V AC with some kind of adapter/docking station.

It's highly unlikely they use 220V because the only things that run on 220 in most US homes are major appliances: electric stoves, dryers, HVAC equipment and water heaters.

It's possible that they all run on miniature nuclear reactors, but I doubt it.

Is there a formalized name for that "rule"? Because I am in fact under that impression when meeting new people. I think "hey, that girl is kinda like that one girl in my primary school, mixed with elements from that other girl from junior high".

Pintsize rejoiced over Marten getting an income because it would ensure him a source of "delicious alternating current". There's never been a mention of batteries, but presumably if they had their own reactors then they wouldn't need house current.

Rechargeable batteries, then.
To change the subject completely, it'd be something if one or more of these Secret Bakery people (say, the short one who shares Faye's casual attitude toward things burning off-panel) was/were the PP's old neighbor(s) from the BlazingToaster apartments.

.... Did anyone ever really establish that it was Pintsize's laser that did in the TV and bookcase in Marten's old apartment? Really, all we know is that the PP walked in from offpanel, strangely unflustered, and announced their immolation from unspecified causes ...
And what's this about Faye trying to set people on fire with her mind?

Yeah, but if you were on welfare living off food stamps you'd be overjoyed about getting an income so you could visit a nice restauarant, wouldn't you?

Knowing Pintsize, it's probably more like a drug anyway.  We all produce endorphins, but whooo-hoo brother, pass the Valium.

I was kind of under the impression that cross-neck guy and "ruin the friendship" guy were genderflipped Dora and Faye.
(It's not a stretch that the 'cross on the neck guy' could be a recovering goth, as well... 'Ruin the friendship guy would probably be gender-astereotypical 'haha he's sensitive' funny the way Dora's meant to be 'haha, she issues beatdowns for spurious reasons' gender-astereotypical funny.)

In any case, I think a "Secret Bakery" idea would probably sell like, er, hotcakes. People love to be in on a private deal, or at least pretend that they are. That's partly why people come up with in-jokes and such from things they like- it's a 'belonging to/taking symbolic ownership' kind of thing.
