Here's Me
« on: 29 Jan 2011, 01:06 »

Hello, all. It seems to be the trend for newbies to post an introductory topic here, and I figured it'd be a nice way to scope out the landscape. So here goes.

I'm a high school senior, and while I like to think of myself as unique, I'm sure that most of my "unique" qualities are actually much more average in this community. As far as my interests go, I'm planning on pursuing a career in theoretical physics, but strangely enough I have a strong passion for ancient history, so that should tell you some stuff about me. Some favorites of mine include the color orange, the TV show Firefly, the food Panang Curry, and the band Lydia.

I started reading QC last summer, caught up in two days, went through the withdrawal of not being able to continue the story whenever I had a computer or iPod handy, and then finally settled into the real pace. Some other webcomics I frequent are xkcd (who doesn't, nowadays?), Buttersafe, Dinosaur Comics, and Penny Arcade. I'm also a fan of the Perry Bible Fellowship, but since that one's been inactive for a long while I can't exactly say that I frequent it. I also tend to search out good TV shows and obsess over them until I've watched every episode up to date (at which point I keep up with the show if it is still running.) It normally only takes a couple of days per season. I also often think I'm funny even though I know I'm not. Sorry about that.

I enjoy the company of smart folk, and I hope I don't have too much trouble finding a place for myself here.

Everyone planning on pursuing a career in theoretical physics is welcome here.  And the ancient history of theoretical physics is very interesting.

Welcome!

@sean Very well, good sir; I accept your challenge! Swords, tomorrow at noon. What say you?

@celticgeek Thank you kindly for your welcome. Haha, the ancient history of theoretical physics is indeed quite interesting.

May I suggest obtuse Beethoven nonets versus string theory jokes?

That's not nearly as much fun as particle dissembler beams vs. lutes?
