For the record, for non-native english speakers, many of these "bad puns" are hard enough to understand in the first place.

the one i quoted took a google seach for the word and i actually had to prenounce it before i got it, if this came up in some conversation i wouldnt get it...since who the hell knows what a lyre is?
especially us non-native speakers

Aren't lyres Greek?  So really the blame should fall on the Greeks...  I guess in this case it's just a case of a Greek word matching an English one.

lyre |līr| noun. A stringed instrument like a small U-shaped harp with strings fixed to a crossbar, used esp. in ancient Greece. Modern instruments of this type are found mainly in East Africa.
ORIGIN Middle English : via Old French lire and Latin lyra from Greek lura.

The word has come a long way. The Greek root doesn't match the English, but it has the lura the exotic...

The anagram of Faye is   F, YEA!
And for "Faye Whitaker" it's "Awake thy fire". Appropriate, eh?

Very nice.  :-) I wish I could take full credit for my sig but someone else said it during one of the streams.

EDIT: Actually, now that I really think back, I'm pretty sure I got it wrong (it was actually awhile ago). Fixed now!

I thought he let that "not qualified" line go a little too easily, too...

From where Faye's sitting, she's in a position to know whether he's under- or overqualified.  Oh wait, you probably meant his skill-set.  >_>  In which case, she wouldn't know at this point, but it's a better move for Angus to lower her expectations regardless of his qualifications.

But does this mean the pen is mightier?

I don't know about you non-native English-speakers, but uhhhh, most people know what a lyre is. I don't get all this complaining about the difficulty of these (and other) puns for non-native English speakers though. What, are Jeph and others supposed to dumb down their jokes so people who are reading an English-language comic but don't really know English would get it? Why? For instance, your own post was VERY difficult to understand for Russian and Japanese-speakers. So what?

I don't read French books and complain that Flaubert's generous vocabulary makes his books hard to understand for me, a non-native French speaker. I go and get a dictionary.

First time ever being able to catch Jeph drawing, that was awesome. My love for him and his work grew 10 times bigger than what it was already. =] There was already a big love to begin with.

It really is a bit inconsiderate for Faye and Angus to do that, take it to the bedroom!

She should subtly get her point across by strutting across the living room and heading out the door, but then again, this is Marigold we're talking about.

Maybe Momo's social protocol database has informed her it's not necessary to give Marigold the gory details?

I love the look of "oh my god the world is ending" on Marigold's face in the last panel, probably one of Jeph's better expressions. That's saying quite a lot, really.

Momo works really well too. I'm not sure if I want to know the exact details of what Faye and Angus are doing if it evoked THAT reaction...

Having a blushing AnthroPC lead her (blindfolded) across the room would be even more effective than strutting.  Assuming Angus even notices.

I do believe Momo-tan was blushing in the last panel. Fascinating that she'd be built with that capability.
We know she's equipped to produce the anime sweat-drop, and the live eels, so blushing isn't much of a stretch, but it is so kawaii.

Making out in an apartment occupied by an anthro-PC could be risky. I'm imagining: "Excuse me!" <Momo-tan bows> "My eyes are high-resolution full colour video-cameras, my ears are high-fidelity stereo microphones, and my 5GHz WiFi interface allows me to upload what I see and hear to Pintsize's YouTube account at 150 megabits per second." <bows, and sits seiza, gazing at the happy couple. Her pupils dilate and contract, accompanied by faint autofocus noises>

Someone isn't exactly over Angus, I see. Well, I hope that doesn't last long. I adore Marigold, and want her to be happy. Since it is unlikely that that Faye's relationship with Angus is going to end soon, she needs a distraction.

"OOF!"
"I'm so sorry, I wasn't looking... Oh, hey Marten!"
"...Marigold. What're you up to?"
"Just on my way to see Hanners. I needed to get away from my place."
"Why... what's wrong with your place?"

Well... I could write  more but suffice to say that maybe two rejected lovers could find comfort in each other's arms.

But that would be as artificial as you say in another thread that you think the pairing of Faye and Angus is; probably more so, because I disagree with you on Faye and Angus, and unlike them Marten and Marigold have shown no interaction that would lead into such a thing.

It would be a little artificial if they were just to get right to the love-love I suppose. What I'm really speculating about is not the possibility that they will hop into bed right away, but that they might have some interaction that would lead to further development between them. If I implied any more, that was merely for potential comic effect. I almost implied  it even more strongly, but then I remembered that people don't always have a sense of humour around here... especially Jeph.

I'd think it was cool if Marten and Marigold got to interact a little more. It would probably be a good couple of hundred comic strips before anything even remotely romantic happened between them though, if ever. As for Faye and Angus, it isn't their pairing I think is artificial - that came out of a run of several hundred comic strips and was entirely organic development. It is their happiness I think is artificial. I could understand Faye being a bit confused after Angus planted a kiss on her, but I don't know why she didn't recover her senses after a couple of dates and tell him that she's just not interested. In anyone.

uh... Marigold has lost some serious cred with me if she can't watch her shows on that supercomputer of hers.

/watches more tv on laptop and phone than on his actual home theater setup.

Perhaps she would prefer a larger screen?

I feel sorry for Marigold here, what with her unintended rival out there doing what she had at least thought she wanted to do and feeling trapped in the room.  I mean what if she needs to visit the loo?  Of course knowing the two of them were coming over Marigold could have left earlier.

Established, she doesn't keep a phone in her room because that distracts from World of Warcraft. Not too much of a stretch to imagine that sucker's exclusively for  WoW, with just enough left over for some Potter fanfic.

But I know what you mean. I'm beginning to wonder why I spent money on a TV.

Because that's not where she's at now. That's where she was when she met Marten, but she has grown and changed since then. A big part of that was her little what-da-ya-call-it with Sven.

She's ready to try getting back into the dating pool, and I think she's bathing in the excitement that comes with a new relationship.

This just illustrates why I don't get all the Angus hate. Angus might have been a one note gag when he was first introduced, but he has developed since then. So has Faye. In fact all of Jeph's characters grow as the comic progresses, but many people act as if the characters are stuck at comic #750 where Faye and Angus are concerned.

Mostly because she IS interested in Angus, and has explicitly stated that she really likes him (in the recentish underpants arc). She was interested in dating in general much earlier than this, telling Doctor Corrine that she wanted to be able to kiss boys but didn't feel ready to do so. She began to overcome those boundaries with Sven (perhaps not quite as she had intended, but she did it nonetheless) and is continuing to do so now with Angus. I can't say for sure how the relationship will end up, but Faye is genuinely interested, as is Angus with her. I'm looking forward to seeing how Jeph progresses their story.

Edit:

This. I don't understand why people dislike the guy so much; as akronnick points out, he HAS been fleshed out a lot since being introduced, and the relationship provides plenty of scope for further development. He's honestly one of my favourite characters in the comic.

Having a blushing AnthroPC lead her (blindfolded) across the room would be even more effective than strutting.  Assuming Angus even notices.

Re Angus's room (no, it is not Angus' room), I call New Background Avoidance Syndrome.

Should add that to TV Tropes.

She'll get there in one piece all right, but Faye and Angus are going to shatter into a large number of pieces as she walks out to the door.

Then they'll reassemble like the T-1000 and carry on.
