This one's a passage from my favourite book (one I'll harp on about incessantly given half the chance) - I, Lucifer by Glen Duncan.

That is some good reading. If you're interested, I might be able to put you in touch with some authors who might be interested in creating audiobooks of their work, most likely short fiction in the sci-fi/fantasy field.

I'll have to try to get something up as well as soon as I get some privacy (I hate trying to record my voice with anybody around). I've had to do some voiceover stuff for various projects in my TV production classes, so I'm finally getting sort of used to hearing it without cringing.

And hearing all these great voices in general, I just had the insane idea that we should make a radio play of some kind. It's the kind of thing where long-distance collaboration would work, and we definitely have enough knowledgeable people in audio/music/computer tech to pull it off.

I wish I could find a way to download the English language course I did some speaking parts on. I don't even know if it's out yet but there is or will be students in Italy learning English with me saying things like "It appears your leg is broken" and "Let's go bowling".

Actual cousin? I only ask because I knew part of his family well and met him a couple of times.

The connection is slightly remote; my great-grandmother (who lived till I was seven, so I knew her) had the maiden name Awdrey (and married name Cremer).  The Reverand Wilbert Awdrey was in line from her father.  He lived latterly not so far from Lechlade, where my sister's husband (Rev Stephen Parsons) was vicar for many years, and she got to know him quite well; I don't recall that I ever met him, though.

I used to go to school with his granddaughter and he once attended one of my family's Christmas parties during advent and read to the Children.

So there you have it, six degrees of Questionable Content.

Whilst growing up respective parents had notions that we would get married in the casual way that many parents will pair off their kids. Turns out we're incompatible though, she's a beautiful, wonderful, kind and compassionate person and I'm an asshat. Thus my own failings have saved you from the embaressment of any tenuous relationship.

I miss Lechlade, lovely little town.

We should do a fully voiced simple adventure game.  Well no.  Just a short radio play like Jimor suggested would be better and easier.

I did a King Lear quote because it is at the beginning of on of my favorite fantasy novels.  Not because I am sophisticated.

Turn your volume down for a bit because apparently I can't get near a mic without almost yelling.

It may just be that it's Shakespeare. I've had that problem before. I had to do an audio of the opening of The Tempest for sound design class, and I got all the grad students to be the drowning sailors, and one of them tested levels fine, but then we started recording and he was reading Shakespeare into a microphone and every word he said clipped completely. It was terrible.

I expected Roddy to sound really cockney, but dang, nice speaking voice man.

Somewhere, I don't have it anymore, I collaborated with him on a harshnoise project. He read Lovecraft whilst I laid my guitar down on the amplifier and went to make a sandwich.

The only issue I can see is my total lack of proper recording equipment, bar this cheap-as-chips '90s-era microphone. If some whizkid could remove all the static and fuzz, I'd be happy to go ahead and do it anyway.

Also I am completely up for the idea of doing a radio play - they are always very very fun, especially if you find something with lots of hilarious vocalised characterisation.

I would do this but after watching the videos on Tommys facebook I have decided against it, my voice is ridiculously similar to his and I don't want it to be a 'thing'.

Ahh be we all heard you in your Loko videos

So I was trying so decide what to read, so show off my American accent.  I thought maybe a work of American fiction, something classic and important.  Stephen suggested that novel by Bill O'Reilly.  Yes that Bill O'Reilly.  Here it is the first 2 pages of "Those Who Tresspass" thank you Amazon preview.

I haven't spoken English in ages so my tongue is struggling with proper pronunciation, but here you go I guess. I don't know what kind of accent I have, there is definitely Norwegian in there but it's not as pronounced as among most people I know, otherwise I guess it's a cobbled-together generally English in nature accent? I don't know man I am just a dude saying things

Man, Dovey, I read Handmaid's Tale for 7th grade Summer Reading. Also you sound so australian.

GUYS I READ SOME POEMS

It is Die Lorelei, if you were wondering. The name came back to me as soon as I hit "stop". I might do some more. My favourite Frost poem, maybe, or das Spinrad, and I might even deign to bore you out of your minds with Cervantes!

I apologise to Mili in advance for sounding like a posh wazzock.

A decade of choral training + urbanisation of Atlanta + 20 years of foreign language study have all but nixed my southern twang. There are videos of me when I was a wee kid, though, and my GOD it was atrocious. I remember when I was 3 or 4 at preschool trying to explain to someone that I meant "line" instead of "lion" because the words came out of my mouth exactly the same way.

Dearest Paul, this is the best thing ever. I am listening to it at work on a Friday morning, this is going to be the best Friday ever.
I believe I owned a copy of the original Railway series, with some beautiful illustrations (including a very upsetting one where Edward broke his guard and looks very much in pain.)

Wow. That is not how I thought you sounded, Paul. I'm trying to figure out who you sound like - one of my lecturers, I think. Do you moonlight as a Cambridge professor?

There's this really handy "other thing" I'm going to write as a footnote to my abstract that I can probably explore these issues in. I think I'll call it my "dissertation."

...have all but nixed my southern twang.

My southern accent is 99% gone most of the time.   When I get drunk, it will make an appearance.  When I get angry or frustrated or stressed, it will rear its head for a few words or a phrase, but mostly it's gone.  Yesterday at work I was on the phone with a guy in South Carolina and he said "fixin' to".  Then he stopped, and said "Fixin' to is a southern phrase that means we are preparing to."

I laughed and told him that I understand what 'fixin to' means and that where I come from that would count as fancy talk.  He asked what I meant and I told him that where my family is from it's one word and we don't pronounce the x.  It's "fittinta"   As in, "I reckon I'm fittinta spend a weeks pay puh'in gais in my truck.  Dayum whendit git so 'spensive?"   I think it put him at ease and we had a lovely conversation after that.   Accent free on my part.

Paul, you sound exactly as English as I thought you did. Also, you are an excellent reader, which I imagine you have had lots of practice doing recently, what with the grandchildren and all. :)

There are a handful of people I would listen to talk all day, and I would say you are probably one of them.

Hey everyone, I need to buy some new bookshelves. When I get back from Ikea and put them together you're all invited to the bookshelf launch party.
