well, i'm glad that i ended up getting the game gifted to me by a generous fellow from the PA forums who had an extra copy

it was the first game i really wanted to get when i built my computer, and i was this close to pulling the trigger and paying for it too. dodged a wallet bullet there

and yet, because of those horrible, awful Mann Co. supply crates, valve's still gotten their $10 from me. at least. those brilliant bastards

Yeah why the hate on new players? I never got to play TF2 on a PC because up until recently I didn't have a computer that could run it (or anything else really), but fuck yeah free, I'll be playing tonight. Also Champions Online, which is another free to play you can get through steam now.

Installed it last night. Don't know if I'll play it, I still have to finish KOTOR, Witcher, Max Payne 2 and GTA.

I've stopped counting the games I "have to finish". I don't have anything against new players - gets me better killstreaks. I recommend heavy or scout for new guys, as those are pretty easy to get started with.

Not if you're good with airblasts. That makes all the difference. Add in the fun of everybody hating you because it's a bitch to be lit on fire, and you've got a golden combination.

First and foremost, check the forums, which ought to be saturated with these kinds of problems. Most people will tell you the same thing Tiogyr said but there should be a good solution to be found somewhere.

That's why we hate n00bs. They ruin our carefully calculated medic play by doing stupid stuff like that and not listening to voice chat. However now there will be plenty of idiots standing around for me to get sniper kills and spy backstabs on.

Oh come on it's not like people didn't do that before it was free to play.

Avec: do you get a decent framerate though? Because if I had that kind of thing going on and it also gave me bright models I would be totally ok with it.
On a 'maybe actually solving the problem' note - Have you tried running it in DirectX 8 mode (add "-dxlevel 81" w/o quotes to your launch options (right click on tf2 in steam > properties > set launch options)? I find that solves a lot of issues and nets you a bunch of extra fps without really costing you anything other than pretty water.
