Tai's Tats II
« on: 28 Jun 2011, 06:42 »

(Please forgive the pun) There was a previous thread about Tai's 'missing' tatoos from November of '09.

I was viewing another (NSFW) webcomic Chimneyspeak and the commenters mentioned that stars tatooed on knees (one of the characters has them) suggested a mafia connection.

Did Jeph create Tai's left elbow star knowing this?

Or is there anothter meaning for the yellow star on her elbow?

And any ideas what symbol is inside the star?

Does it have to have a meaning? Sometimes a star is just a star.

The whole point of marking up one's body is that it means something to the bearer of the marking.

-  It could be a reminder of an event (personal meaning)

- It could be a statement of expectations or personal image. i.e. Raven's arm band that means "Princess". (Both in Chinese and Japanese characters, depending on the strip.

- Sometimes it just is just artistic, because the wearer liked the design.

- Or the wearer's significant other is or was a totoo artist and 'just got bored'.

And, let's face it, Jeph doesn't put ANYTHING into the strip that doesn't have meaning for him.

And some people just like having tattoos because they look cool.

You're over-analysing this way too much.

It's a webcomic forum, it's what we do.

Tai is impulsive. It may not have deep meaning.

Exactly. One of the girls I went to college with had a tattoo on her thigh and hip of a celtic cross, which we only saw one day at the beach. One of the guys asked her what it meant, her answer? "What does it mean? It meant I couldn't sit down properly for a week." (I will admit, I laughed...a lot.)

Tattoos for the most part don't have a meaning, in fact most people go to a tattoo parlour and peruse the photos of what the artist has done or the walls before they make a decision, just on what looks good. Its only when people who go in with a design already done or the artist does it for them, that it has a meaning. And as for Tai's elbow tattoo, it looks a little too generic to have any meaning.

'Tis true. I mean, this is a gal who got her hood pierced on the spur of the moment.
