True, but a simple spike can't compare to a wedge.

And wtf happened to cartoons?

I don't know what you're talking about, cartoons are still pretty good.  That image is comparing shows for 12-yr old boys with shows for preschoolers anyways.

There was some unmitigated shite for cartoons in the 90's whereas the 00's are responsible for brilliance like Boondocks and Robot Chicken.

the 90's have the exact same deal that previous decades did, cartoons, movies blah blah blah. They all made some great stuff and some absolute dogshit stuff.

We all get our own stuff to look at with rose tinted glasses people!

Like Transformers. Oh god why did I ever watch the 80's cartoon again and ruin my childhood perceptions.

If you think that's bad, don't watch Battle of the Planets again.

Mind you, I'd love to lay my hands on a DVD of Cities of Gold and The Storyteller series.

It's an age-old classic, of course, but none the worse for that.

There's a slightly similar one (actually not very similar, now I think about it) from WW2:  The German propaganda machine was gearing up to announce that a U-boat had damaged the major English ship "Nelson", when they realised that the radio message that they had thought said (in translation): "Nelson torpedoed but not sunk" had actually used the word "Felsen" (which means rock)...

Also the reputed message sent from a bored warship in the South Atlantic during a quiet period of the war:

I wish I were a little grub
   With whiskers round my tummy.
I'd climb into the honey pot
   And make my tummy gummy.

Hit him in a glasses case wrapped in the manuscript of the speech in his coat pocket.  The bullet was slowed so much it left him with nothing more than a gently bleeding scratch.

But when he got on stage and pulled the bloody speech from his coat pocket, he delivered the line, "It takes more than one bullet to kill a bull moose!"

So he noticed it, and was such a consummate politician that he used  it!

Hit him in a glasses case wrapped in the manuscript of the speech in his coat pocket.  The bullet was slowed so much it left him with nothing more than a gently bleeding scratch.
It was a bit worse than a scratch:

"...the bullet lodged in his chest only after penetrating his steel eyeglass case and passing through a thick (50 pages) single-folded copy of the speech he was carrying in his jacket. Roosevelt, as an experienced hunter and anatomist, correctly concluded that since he was not coughing blood, the bullet had not completely penetrated the chest wall to his lung, and so declined suggestions he go to the hospital immediately."

"Afterwards, probes and x-ray showed that the bullet had traversed three inches (76 mm) of tissue and lodged in Roosevelt's chest muscle but did not penetrate the pleura, and it would be more dangerous to attempt to remove the bullet than to leave it in place. Roosevelt carried it with him for the rest of his life."

So yeah, the bullet was slowed by his glasses case and speech, but it was close enough to his lungs that it was too dangerous to remove it.

The fact that he had three inches of chest muscle is actually pretty impressive for a "sickly, asthmatic youth".  His favorite hobby became mountain climbing...

which he was doing when McKinley got shot (on the grounds of my high school in Buffalo), making TR president.
