Your browser had it cached from when it first went there, and maybe a cookie from your going through the front page.  Either or both will most likely expire sometime, so it can appear OK at first and later fail the same as for everyone else.

I have a cat that does that.  It's considerably more impressive when the cat's 12, weighs about 18 pounds, and has the fur of a persian.  It looks like someone's old matted hallowween wig suddenly leapt in the air...
