Don't be scared - it's just a news report in The Guardian.

Yeah, no pictures so to speak, and it's pretty much satire about the Olympics.

Makin' bacon.

Now you made me remember a game played by rolling little pig figures in place of dice called "Pass the Pigs". If the 2 pigs end up touching each other, it was called "makin' bacon" and you lost your points for the round and your turn.

Have you tried eBay?

Good luck finding ribbons and such, though.

Pfft! Brand new English-language keyboard manual typewriters and ribbons etc. are still manufactured and sold in India and China so I'm sure you can buy them in the USA. Old-style inked ribbons are probably less of a supply problem than the custom ribbon-cartridges used in more modern electric and electronic typewriters.

If the author of that article failed her typing class, I can see a possible reason - she got the typing exercise wrong.

I totally found one of those sitting on the wall two days ago. Those furry legs made it really hard for it to hold onto stuff, but once it found solid footing, it used them to comb its antennae. It just wants to be pretty!

Or so it seems! This is not quite the same type of grey goo. Contrary to what is depicted, the cube is actually pulling the putty around itself instead of being pulled by it.

Slow motion video at 1 TRILLION frames per second.

Ha!  His technique to get enough photons to record is to repeat the pulse of light many times and accumulate the results until enough photons are collected to get a decent image.

In the late 1970s I was using radioactivity in the blood to image the heart in motion, using a gamma camera to collect the image.  Because of the inefficiency of gamma cameras, and the low dose of radiation allowed to be given to patients, we used a similar technique, accumulating the images from many heartbeats, triggered from the ECG, until we had built up composite images of sufficient quality to see the flaws in the wall of the heart as it moved.

Slow motion video at 1 TRILLION frames per second.

Watching the light move in slow motion literally brought me to tears. That is incredible.

His comment about megapixels at the end made me wonder, though - what is the highest resolution photo ever taken? A bit of googling leads me to this: a 26,030 megapixel photo. Damn.
