Stephen, if you ever got a date with her I would try to come between you two, but only if she was cool with that and it wouldn't ruin your dates...

Her hair is great and her uncanny ability to simultaneously shame interviewers for asking bullshit sexist questions and force the process along is just wonderful.

What's in a nose?

Would a nose, by any other name, smell as well?

That was glorious. My favourite bit was the scare quotes near the beginning, though:

“experts” suspect the end of the world will occur on Dec. 21,

Considering my basic knowledge of physics, driving in wintry conditions, and reversing it for the English traffic system, I'm assuming someone took the curve a little too fast, hit a patch of ice and whoomp.

I think of mint juleps as a decidedly Southern (US) sort of a thing. Y'know, mint juleps on the veranda, etc etc.

No, if he ran off the right side of the road, that would have been worse, because it would have been into oncoming traffic!

I, uh....................................I got nuthin.

I didn't bother taking a picture when my car veered off the road...but that was at 60mph, into a tree. Actually, five trees. Supercar took out the first four, but the oak tree didn't budge. I was too busy freaking the fuck out and trying to get out of the mangled wreck that was once a vehicle, to take any photos...plus my phone shattered in the process.

Thank you, car. You died for my sins...actually just the one sin of falling asleep at the wheel, but it's close enough.

If that road is where I think it is then oncoming traffic is mostly never a factor.

I connect them with Mark Twain for some reason. And er... now I realize how stupid I've been, because he's not English.

If that road is where I think it is then oncoming traffic is mostly never a factor.

It was around here, travelling west; you can see the edge of Beckley Hill ahead.  Around 1981, so no mobile phone; and about 10am, so no drinks involved either.

The snow on the road was mostly thawing, but there was a patch of black ice in a dip; you will note the other sets of tyre marks both sides of mine - they didn't quite reach the ditch, but I was seriously worried about someone running into the back of my car while it was there (in the event I didn't see another car in the hour I waited).  I had walked to the nearest farm, where I was told that the farmer would come out to me with his tractor after he'd returned from pulling out another car somewhere else - so I had plenty of time to take photos.  The car was undamaged (though I did get the tracking checked).
