I think he just means it looks like that in the Caribbean too. And yeah, being from the north I'm more used to the ocean in Method's photo too.

Spooky shot. It would look so much more threatening with vertical verticals, but how many of us have access to a shift-lens or camera with movements?

*Cough*  I do have a couple of view cameras, one of which is a rail one with the movements.  Then again, I'd cost me more than I can afford to get a decent new spot metre, develop the film, and pay for drum-scanning.

I've thought about a 24mm shift lens (or adapter). I tried fixing the verticals in post and it actually kinda lost something.

If you can afford it, it's totally worth it.  Not only can you deal with keystoning, but you can really do a lot with selective focus.  If I could afford a digital back for my 4"x5" cameras I'd totally do it.

I received my share of our Fatfox group buy.

Context: A loosely organised group of people I'm part of (mainly members of an IRC channel about our university), has discovered an amazing series of plush animals, amongst them a very, very round fox, now dubbed Fatfox by us. It has turned into a meme in the IRC channel around a year ago, and now we made another group buy. I finally have my very own fatfoxes! They also introduced a new fatfox with large pupils, dubbed drugfox by us.

Here is my new fatfox family:

I'd be using it more for perspective correction than selective focus, though I'd probably end up experimenting with that, too. The only issue is the price. 1700-2000 bucks or thereabouts for the Nikon mount. I could rent, but the problem with that kind of lens (versus renting, say, a 24-70 2.8 ) is that I'd imagine there's a bit of a learning curve involved... meaning I'd be getting the hang of it just in time to send it back, and then would have to relearn the next time I rented. I do shoot a fair amount of architecture and some interiors, so it's tempting (I can also see where it might be useful for certain types of macro/tabletop work), but I'd have to seriously consider how often I'd use it given the cost. I even looked at LensBaby, but I need the shift -- and good optics -- more than the tilt, and I don't want my stuff looking like it was done on some hipster's duct-taped Holga.

It's crazy, I am almost made nervous by the confidence of that smile. Your baby knows already that he's going places. Looking into the eyes of his great-grandfather and not only grinning, but bearing it... Kid's got something special in his eyes. I can't wait to watch him grow up.

Hit a patch of ice as I was accelerating up the hill, which kicked my back end out. No big deal, right? Turn into the skid, pump the brakes, all the proper stuff. Didn't account for a curb outcropping that jumped up and grabbed my right front tire. My buddy commented on how uncanny it was that the truck managed to miss that sign post as I was spin/rolling across the median.

Yeah, that *is* scary.  Worst I've ever done is do a 360° spin when trying to merge.  No damage to the car, but I was about as shaken as one of Bond's martinis.  I can't even imagine rolling like that, and being able to do so safely.  Best to you Nikolai.

I don't have any pictures of it on my computer, but about ten years ago I was in a similar crash. Only ended up with cuts on my hand from broken glass, but the car was smashed. It didn't help that right after the car rolled over, the driver behind me (who had been following too closely given the icy conditions) smashed into the drivers' side and caved it in.

Rolled my truck today.
I'm so glad I don't have to ride or drive on ice and snow. Sand blown across the road is the worst I've had to cope with.

I'm glad you're OK. And GM too, since he was T-boned just before Christmas.
