Better than grabbing your crotch.  Had a friend who did that years ago - didn't go over well in an interview he had...

A friend of mine who used to lecture was told by his supervisor that the most embarrassing thing is to lecture with your flies undone.  So he developed this habit of checking his flies as he steps onto the stage...  He's quite unconscious of it now.

I was a newspaper reporter when the local cable channel asked me to interview an author. The interview went well enough, but when I watched it, I saw myself wrinkling my nose, far too often. It's not ordinarily a nervous habit, but it was for the duration of that interview.
And yes, a casual observer might see me check my fly on the way into a building. Or at least look down at my fly. But that's a good response to getting more forgetful about it in the last 10 years. Women in my workplace, I recall, were often looking down at themselves. At what, I don't think I ever learned, or even asked about.

Women like cleavage too.

If they had food while they were looking down, something may have dropped.

I don't want to turn this into the, "I have boobs" thread but every time I come home from the cinema, I find so much popcorn in my bra. I don't know how I don't realize it's there or it dropped at the time.

This.

I was eating skittles once and for whatever reason I wasn't very good at holding onto them so sometimes one would fall down my shirt. I hate having to reach down my shirt to get them, but better down the shirt than onto the floor I guess.

I often discover food crumbs down there, it's also a convenient place for storing keys and phone if you go out in a tight dress.

Also, photo:

My wife calls it "the vault".  Phone, keys, sunglasses, money, receipts...

She's prestty well endowed.

Also, May, don't take this the wrong way, but you look both adorable and very young.  Like, I dunno, teenaged.

So, when you go out drinking during your visit to the US, expect to be carded.

Well, I'm only 21 so I'm not far off being a teenager. I don't drink really anyway, and I have found that when I'm out with people who are older than me, I don't usually get IDed here anyway. But I will have my passport. Does anyone know which states are funny about British driving licences and which are happy to accept them? I don't really want to lug my passport round with me everywhere for three months!

yessss, me too! I think it's the combination of darkness and sensory overload at the same time. We're just not paying attention. I can't even count the number of things that have fallen in there and I'm not even a messy eater!

And yeah, I agree that they're awesome for holding stuff.

Funnily enough when I was about 13 I really wanted to die my hair green. Luckily my school and my parents were united in their refusal to allow it.

I heard that rubbing colored chalk in your hair makes for a pretty good temporary substitute for actual hair coloring. It's supposed to fall right out after... I dunno, a week? Wasn't paying much attention when my friend was talking about it. She wanted to make her hair blue.

Taken at an SCA coronation this weekend. I'm the new chronicler for our kingdom so I had to dress up a bit. Yes, I'm wearing crushed velvet, a big no-no, but I'm working on getting proper garb... I've been dieting (yay!) and I'd like to get to a more ideal weight before I drop that kind of money on a new garb wardrobe. For now, it's all loaner items.

Aren't spangenhelms and chainmail a little early for renaissance? I thought they'd mostly moved on to plate by then.

Chainmail never really went out of fashion...  until firearms came into common usage.

But yeah, the spangen and the viking shield & axe are a little old-school!   :-D

Not that most ren-faire consumers would really know...   :psyduck:

And firearms were coming into more prominent usage right around the middle of the Renaissance time period, I think.

I wish I could've gone as the Viking (to ravish the wenches, of course  ), but the GA Faire doesn't allow weapons other than swords and daggers :-(

Disallowing spears/polearms and firearms I can understand (too easy to take out a lot of people with a polearm if you turn around quickly, and you can't easily tell with firearms if they're real or not...), but not allowing maces and axes as well?  Draconian... :?

 :-D

I think the people who wear plate (like...real plate armor, not the plastic stuff) at ren fairs are a little crazy, mostly because I think they would be too hot to enjoy anything. Also it's all heavy and stuff, not that chainmail isn't. Though I have seen some guys make really fantastic leather armor and wear it and I am always jealous. Also one dude had a magnificent set of wood armor (he was an elf, not really renaissance, but still cool) that I pined over.

Personally, the things I'll be making for the ren fest will be more medieval, but I do not have skills to make an Elizabethan dress. This I can handle, but this is way beyond me.
