AAAAH FIGHT YOU!
Then again I may as well just say fight you every time a pack of wolves posts in the concert thread.

Have I mentioned my old band supported La Quiete a couple of years ago?

is there any way to slightly change the title of this thread so it's not quite so easily searchable through Google or any other engine?

i googled "eddie cochran mediafire" and the last result on the first page, to my surprise, was "The Mediafire Thread! Now with no requests"
i was thinking maybe something as simple as changing it to "mediaf1re" or "media/fire". Maybe i'm just being paranoid, but i think we owe it to Jeph to at least try to cover our tracks at least a little bit.

just a thought.

Yea, i second this.  It's come up on several occasions for me

Also, if you do a Google Image Search for that Moss Icon album that was posted many pages back, the second hit is the image embedded on this thread.

Honestly I'm just quoting this because it needs to be seen.

Also, I too have the complete Shosta symphonies (and upload to burn) so if anyone wants to call out a random number between 1-15 and the other guy uploading them is busy, I'm easy.

to reiterate my previous suggestion, i'd like to mention that "bigelf mediafire" ran through google brings this thread as the number one result. in case you were wondering.

and while we're talking about Bigelf: THERE ISN'T NEARLY ENOUGH IN THIS THREAD, YOU FOOLS!

Bigelf - Hex

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?0iwodgwgm2c
Quote from: Allmusic.com
Retro-rock was once thought of primarily as merely a bunch of shtick. But with the sound of a good old-fashioned rock band letting it rip in the studio (without a hint of ProTools foolery) becoming increasingly harder to come by during the early 21st century, retro-rock may be looked upon in a different light. Take for instance, Bigelf. If you take a gander inside the 2007 reissue of their 2003 release, Hex, you'll see four impressively hairy gentleman, striking a pose (in front of a mammoth cross, no less) straight off the back cover of an early-'70s Black Sabbath record. As a result, it may be tempting to pass off Bigelf as one of the countless doom metal bands that have made a career out of merely copying Master of Reality. But dig a bit deeper, and you'll find tracks that show "the elf men" have studied their Beatles — or perhaps more succinctly, ELO — such as "Rock & Roll Contract," and even a nod to Pink Floyd on "Bats in the Belfry II." But make no mistake, Bigelf are indeed Sab-heads, as evidenced by such delightful metal plodders as the album-opening "Mad Hatter," as well as "Sunshine Suicide" and "Carry the Load." Bigelf's Hex should appeal equally to doom metallists and Wolfmother admirers.

Ok. My turn to contribute.

Super Taranta! and Gypsy Punks appear to have been uploaded multiple times already... instead I present to you:

Gogol Bordello - Multi Kontra Culti vs. Irony
(224 kbps mp3): Much rawer than Gypsy Punks or Super Taranta! . I think the way it works is that once you've listened the hell out of every other GB album, you will come back to this one. I also have Voi-La Intruder, the East Infection EP, and a number of crappy live recordings/demos kicking around if anyone's interested.

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?tdtev4yk01b
...and to accompany it, one of Eugene Hutz' influences/heroes:

Kolpakov Trio - Rodava Tut
(192 kbps mp3) : 7-string guitarist Sacha Kolpakov, originally Sarvo Roma, playing traditionally influenced pieces. OOP.

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?jcrutofmytz
...plus something that is all shades of awesome:

Various Artists - Electric Gypsyland 2
(224 mp3): from Crammed Discs:
Quote
Electric Gypsyland is a collection of reinterpretations/ re-inventions of tracks from three of the leading Balkan Gypsy bands (Crammed's mighty Taraf de Haïdouks, Koçani Orkestar and Mahala Raï Banda), made by notorious fusionists (Balkan Beat Box, Oi Va Voi, Smadj, Shantel), by several mainstays of the new Balkan club scene (DJ ClicK, Forty Thieves Orkestar, Gaetano Fabri, Russ Jones, Russendisko), and by more unexpected contributors coming from totally different musical areas (Tunng, Animal Collective, Nouvelle Vague, Cibelle, 43 Skidoo feat. Susheela Raman, Buscemi and Shrine Synchro System). Also featured are many additional guests (from Europe, Turkey, Africa), engaging in virtual jamming with the original players. While some of these pieces stay close enough to the originals and can be described as remixes, most are poetic re-inventions, works of pure imagination…

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?bxdgpinmzrd
http://www.mediafire.com/?w9saxlygdx7
(split because it's over 100MB otherwise)

Plus the Bonus disc of some of the artists signed to Crammed: (Mahala Rai Banda, Taraf de Haidouks, Kocani Orkestar, Zelwer):

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?zdzxdhnoxs3
... I have a lot more stuff running in the same sort of Balkan direction, if anyone is interested.

Let me know if there's anything I did wrong.

Also, I too have the complete Shosta symphonies

Are they the same ones I have with Rostropovich conducting, or are they different versions? Because I'm always up for hearing alternate versions. Theres a world of difference between how a Russian orchestra would play his 5th, compared to an American orchestra. Also, I think I'm going to upload his preludes and fugues in this post. Turns out the discs are larger than 100 MB's each. If anyone knows how to split a compressed file into two parts, then I'll be able to upload it. Sorry.

However, until then I will upload another one of my very favorite classical pieces. If you are unfamiliar with it, let me say you should at the very least give it a listen.

Beethoven's String Quartet number 15:

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?rgxnjjwsjnh
This quartet was written after he had gone deaf. For me, it's the third movement that really shines here. It was composed after he had recovered from a serious illness, and is subtitled "Holy Song of Thanksgiving by a Convalescent to the Divinity, in the Lydian Mode." Awesome, right? Incredibly moving work.

KC Accidental anyone?

KC Accidental - Anthems For Could’ve Bin Pills

KC Accidental - Captured Anthems for an Empty Bathtub

Code: [Select]
http://www.sendspace.com/file/di4qwd
Quote
K.C. Accidental is a two-man project between Broken Social Scene members Kevin Drew and Charles Spearin (also of Do Make Say Think), and  Captured Anthems for an Empty Bathtub is the result of their initial 1997 collaboration. Anthems For Could’ve Bin Pills was their first official release last year, so this release is something of a prequel. If you like either of their affiliated groups chances are you should like this very much. It is a varied, cerebral instrumental album that should please people who are into Tortoise (the amusingly titled "We Wish We Lived In Chicago" and "Save the Last Breath...") or 1-Speed Bike (the first and third tracks).

Due to the fact that these tracks were culled from the nucleus stage of the group, there is a sort of lack of breadth and cohesion that keeps these otherwise inspired collaborations from really taking off. Track five has a particularly unfinished feel, though that might be part of its incidental charm (it is done over a answering machine organ progression to show how the two managed to keep things going despite scheduling conflicts). "Tired Hands," the last track, is charmingly understated and lethargic, and it’s bittersweet melodic progression counteracts the more morose "Save The Last Breath..." nicely.

Both this and Anthems For Could’ve Bin Pills are very similar (subtracting the first and third tracks) to Broken Social Scene’s similarly ambient Feel Good Lost. There is little of the infectious melodies to be found on You Forgot It In People, though the opener "Nancy and the Girdle Boy" is a real corker. Those looking for something new here might be a bit disappointed, but they’ll at least have something to tide them over till the next Do Make Say Think or Broken Social Scene record comes out. It isn’t essential, but it just might scratch your meandering instrumental rock itch.

This isn't my own link, but I can re-up if it goes down.

From allmusic
Quote
The saga of Sleep's Dopesmoker was already almost ten years in the making by the time of its belated release in 2003. Originally slated to follow closely behind their second album of a decade earlier, the landmark Sleep's Holy Mountain, it lingered in unreleased limbo instead -- the subject of a vicious legal dispute between the Northern California trio and their record company, London, which refused to release Dopesmoker as delivered by the band -- that is, a single, 60-minute-long song! The impasse eventually led to the stubborn band's ignominious dissolution circa 1997 rather than conform to the label's demands, leaving fans waiting for an album that most assumed would never be heard. But come 1999, an incomplete, disjointed version of the recordings was cobbled together and released by Rise Above Records with the title Jerusalem. Unfortunately, this version sounded oddly ragged in places, with senseless digital song divisions and an abrupt, obviously chopped-off ending; so for all intents and purposes, the ideal work as envisioned by Sleep clearly remained unrealized. Thankfully, all these glitches were finally corrected for the definitive, band-sanctioned 2003 edition of Dopesmoker, which bears a top-notch production job courtesy of Billy Anderson (Helios Creed, Natas, etc.) to boot. Revealed here at last, in all of its colossal glory, Dopesmoker is at once an instant doom metal classic -- some might even say a masterpiece -- as well as an impossibly dense, nearly impenetrable listening experience for unprepared fans (just to give you an idea, the first vocals only arrive 16 minutes in). Meticulously composed in the style of Gregorian chants as interpreted through the ears of Black Sabbath, "Dopesmoker" esoterically describes -- get this -- the "Weedian" people's pilgrimage to the "riff-filled land." But lyrics aside -- and there are precious few here to justify stressing over them -- what skeptical listeners must take into account here is that "Dopesmoker" is in fact a single song, not a series of song snippets stitched together progressive rock style. As such, this initially daunting edifice of snarling riffage requires quite a bit more patience and dedicated sampling before its secrets are unlocked and its riddles unraveled, but therein lies the crux of what is ultimately a very rewarding experience. And for Jerusalem owners still reticent to part with their hard-earned cash for this new and improved edition, Tee Pee Records has added a bonus treat in the form of a live recording of unreleased track "Sonic Titan."

I had to take out "Sonic Titan." it just barely put it over 100 MB. I don't really think it justifies it's own upload, but if any of you completionists out there are irked by its absence I can up that track. And apologies if this has been posted already, the search function failed me and I didn't feel like wading through the thread.

One of my favorite "hidden gem" re-issues purportedly re-released at the prodding of Thurston Moore, who claimed there would be no Sonic Youth without the Notekillers- Imagine The Ventures on a Coke Binge led by a frantic and ill tempered Robert Fripp and you are getting close....

A collection of tracks recorded between 1977 and 1981 by Philadelphia no wave guitar/drums instrumental combo the NOTEKILLERS, whose specialty was to experiment and push their sound to uncommon places, while being able to fit within the boundaries of whatever genre they were pushing at the time--be it reggae, rock, acoustic, or punk. Includes the legendary single cut "The Zipper," its B-side "Clock Wise," the unreleased single cuts "Run Don't Stop" and "Juggernauts," along with eleven tracks taken from 2-track reels, dusty cassettes, and an 8-track cartridge.

Gogol Bordello - Voi-La Intruder (1999) : the earliest and roughest of their works. This is the re-release with 5 extra tracks. There's a lot of the "young punks fucking around" vibe on here; and the lyrics are probably the most absurd/humorous of any of their albums. There's also an interesting duet between Eugene & Sally Norvell (track 9). Produced by Jim Sclavunos, drummer for Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds.

Gogol Bordello - East Infection EP (2005) : contains earlier versions of Avenue B and Strangle Uncles From Abroad, a fantastic cover of Manu Chao's Mala Vida (recorded w Steve Albini), the epic East Infection (you know. the one where the girls go LILILILI-LALALALA), the slower Madagascar, and the (to me) irritating Copycat that deviates entirely from their style (Steve Albini recorded that one as well, though, so some of you geeks might find some more merit in it. Personally I don't know what the fuck he was trying to do).

All Cormac McCarthy titles adapted to audio books I've heard have been great. Blood Meridian, All the Pretty Horses, The Road, No Country for Old Men, Cities on the Plain---although I think this one only exists in an abridged version. If anyone has ever had trouble getting through Blood Meridian, they need only listen to the audiobook and pretty much everything about it becomes crystal clear and easy to appreciate.
SO?
Is there a good resource for Audiobooks (specifically McCarthy titles, specifically the Border Trilogy) anywhere in this mire?

Hi-Standard - Growing Up

Quote
Just because that Fat Wreck Chords sound of slaphappy, galloping pop-punk has been overdone doesn't mean that it gets stale; it all just depends on how a band can make this genre fun again. Take Hi-Standard for example, sure they epitomize the Fat stereotype -- except for the whole being from Japan part -- but it's just so hard not to crank Growing Up. It's just fun, for lack of a better term; like one would want to hang out with these guys at a party or after a show. Should it be mentioned that they do a punked out version of Bay City Rollers' "Saturday Night?" Blows the Ned's Atomic Dustbin version out of the water.

is there any way to slightly change the title of this thread so it's not quite so easily searchable through Google or any other engine?

i googled "eddie cochran mediafire" and the last result on the first page, to my surprise, was "The Mediafire Thread!

It's come up on several occasions for me
i feel it is appropriate that my first post is to tell you guys that i found this board (well i guess thread, since i only check this thread) through google.  i believe i was looking for <sloan + mediafire>.  when i first found this thread, i think i spent a couple hours just d/l probably dozens of records.  i check back every couple days.
tons of good stuff in here.  tons.

i guess ill start adding, why not?
so hey, whats up

While more music is always good, this Google business is unsettling.

(Also, hey, not to be kind of picky (read: a dick), but please don't double post if you don't want to be heckled (read: yelled at by picky people).)

Rules:

No hotlinking images or albums. You can rehost images at http://imageshack.us.

Ensure your tags are correct and that you have specified both Artist/Album in your post.

Upload your files in either a .zip or a .rar archive to mediafire.com, in multiple parts if the album is over 100mbs. The reason for this is that we know Mediafire is safe and efficient, and allows multiple downloads. The ads on other sites, such as Sendspace, are known to contain viruses on the page. Get yourself checked out.

Post your link using code tags. It's the # icon above the policeman emoticon. This prevents the links from being traced back to the forums, lowering the chance that the wrong people notice the thread, potentially threatening Jeph with legal action.

Also, please do NOT request albums.

Repost the rules at the top of each new page.

Way to post the rules Matt.

Also, new kid, double posting is bad. At least in terms of this thread, it clutters up the thread with unnecessary posts, leading to more pagebreaks, leading to more albums that might go unnoticed. Plus, it's just poor message board etiquette. I mean, if you don't like it, you don't have to post here.

For the record, changing the title of the thread won't help with the google thing... its still going to come up unless you want to somehow go through and delete every instance of the word in the thread.

I just changed all the titles to match, but as roulettescars says that doesn't stop Google seeing all the instances of the words inside the actual posts.

ellen allien - sool

from allmusic
Quote
Like a lot of dance music producers, Berlin's Ellen Allien has had her hands in just about every aspect of her field. Allien's immersion into dance music began during an extended stay in London, at the height of the acid house phenomenon. Shortly after returning home she got into DJing, and by 1993 she had spun at Fischlabor, Tresor, and a number of other significant clubs. Throughout the remainder of the '90s, she hosted programs on Berlin's Kiss FM, worked at the Delirium record shop, operated a label called Braincandy, and threw a number of parties called BPitch Control, which led to her label of the same name. She eventually became a noted producer; along with a slew of 12" releases, she issued a series of full-lengths

THIS IS A LEAKKKKKKKKKKKKK
melvins - nude with boots

from allmusic
Quote
The Melvins were the first post-punk band to revel in the slow, sludgy sounds of Black Sabbath. Their music is oppressively slow and heavy, only without any of the silly mystical lyrics or the indulgent guitar solos -- it's just one massive, oozing pile of dark slime. The Melvins' first record was released in 1987; they've released several albums since then, but it wasn't until 1993 that they went to a major label, thanks to their protégé, Kurt Cobain. While the Melvins can be dull and repetitious, their place in rock history is interesting, even if it is just a minor footnote. The band formed in Aberdeen, WA, the same town that produced Nirvana's Cobain and Krist Novoselic.

MGMT - Oracular Spectacular

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?9lnet07nymt
Quote from: AMG
When MGMT was asked by their record label for a list of their dream producers, with low expectations they sarcastically replied: Prince, Nigel Godrich, Barrack Obama, and "not Sheryl Crow." Columbia returned with Dave Fridmann, the producer extraordinaire best known for his work with Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev. In typical Fridmann fashion, Oracular Spectacular is a glamorous mega-production through and through. Drums are massively distorted and shimmering keyboards are articulately layered as he takes the reigns, leading the duo through his daisy chain of onboard compressors, delay units, and whatever other mysterious studio gizmos and gadgets he uses to get his trademark sound. Expectedly, the 14 karat polish enhances MGMT's blend of psychedelic and indie-electro to a shiny sonic gleam, resulting in some of the catchiest pop songs to come from NYC since the turn of the millennium. The tunes sound classic and new all at once, paying homage to Bowie, the Kinks, and the Stones, while updating traditional progressions with flashes of Royal Trux, Ween, and LCD Soundsystem. It's a wonderful mess of musical ideas, ranging from the dancy disco thump and Bee Gees falsetto of "Electric Feel" to the gritty acoustic-based "Pieces of What," to the grimy synth groove on the anthemic "Time to Pretend." With tongues planted firmly in cheeks, sardonic wit is as abundant as Andrew Van Wyngarden and Ben Goldwasser spoof the stereotypical rock & roll lifestyle with lines like "Lets make some music, make some money, find some models for wives/I'll go to Paris take some heroin and fuck with the stars." Despite the ever-present irony, the songs never feel insincere and the record is inherently strong throughout, making it a solid start to their career.

RE the searchability of the m-f word... some forums let you set up swearing filters along with replacement words for the swears (actually I think it's set up here so that "+ 1" (w/out space) comes out as "I have nothing relevant to add" or something)... perhaps it could be set up so that m-f comes out as "meatier-foyer" or something equally search-engine-unfriendly.

EDIT: this'd probably work for people who don't use quote tags too...

You should have mentioned that Melvins album was a new leak. I found out about it from someone else and it clicked in my head. For the reccord, if anyone doesn't have their last album, (A)Senile Animal, you are wrong. Dead wrong. and I'll upload it for you poor fools if you want it.

Just added a filter to change every instance to "mediaf!re".  Hopefully people will be smart enough to make the substitution when copy-pasting the url.  Will probably take a while for search engine robots to pick up the new text & get rid of the old stuff.  I think that's how it works?

Judging by a search I just did in google, yeah... the quoted text had the 'i' in fire but when I followed the link it was all '!'.
